You know hearing from bands like Rush say how Peter and Ace were great guys, and knowing being in a band that got as big as KISS did, the pressures of it all, and on top of that having to work with Gene and Paul on the other side. Can you blame those two from having some drinks to get through their days, especially working with Gene. I love how in every interview Gene likes to say how he never drank did drugs, but addiction is addiction, and Gene is a Sex Addict.
I guess most would blame these two if you’re trying to run a four guys million dollars business and two of the involved is either too drunk or high on drugs to be able to work at all. Partying is okay, but you need to stay focused on the thing that pays your bills - your job.
Gene, and I'm sure Paul as well, seem to think they were a delight to be around because of their 'Saintly' disposition of avoiding the drugs, in sex, drugs, and rock' n' roll. That that somehow elevated them to the best humans possible. I don't know them, but doubt that's the case. I imagine there are those who actually NEED to drink to be around them. As far as their band being better after Ace & Peter left, not the case. They continued to make money because of their product, but they also still used Ace & Peter's likeness, that alone says volumes. And neither Gene nor Paul could ever write a good song alone, without help. So, Gene and Paul continued on with a product that Ace & Peter were 50% of or more, and that's all they ever were after that. The new guys never had a voice because they were employees, so they don't count. They were also imposters for the Kiss product. Gene & Paul can rub how rich they are in anyone's face who disagrees with that, but it only ads to that point. It's always money to them, that's their only Ace in the hole. And I'm certain they robbed Ace & Peter of their rights along the way as well. If they haven't, then good for them all.
The fact Paul and Gene never got high in a line of work where alcohol/drugs are part of the fabric and the way they condescend kind of makes them seem inauthentic and very calculating,I like all the Kiss members but there is this nagging thought that makes one wonder what are Paul and Gene REALLY like without/camera,polish, and standard company lines they robotically speak in interviews, that said the sheer amount of live gigs those two have done is absolutely off the charts and remarkable, performing into their 70's is astounding. On the other hand Ace and Peter seem more like real humans w/ the faults that come w/being human.
I am not a great KISS fan, but I think that my favorite KISS album is Dressed To Kill. They sound very cohesive. I really enjoy Love Her All I Can, including Ace's leads.
He’s not wrong. But on the other hand, alcohol and drugs may open up a shy person. Life’s not just black or white, there are many factors that is into play.

Ace was not let go from KISS three times. Ace left KISS twice: The first time was in 1982, the second time was in 2001. The reason Paul and Gene continue to say this in interviews is because they know they’re not gonna get called out.
Simmons is a hypocrite. The Kiss name is used on many alcoholic beverages, him and Stanley make a big profit. Listen to the classic Kiss alive 1 recorded in Detroit Michigan. Right before they play "Cold Gin" Stanley is talking to the audience audience, promoting alcohol and getting high in general. Anybody can listen to it. The Best live album Kiss ever recorded.
@@stephensdygert7600 Uhm, yes they did; “Alive! was recorded over four stops on the Dressed to Kill Tour: May 16 at Cobo Arena in Detroit; June 21 at Cleveland Music Hall in Cleveland; July 20 at RKO Orpheum Theater in Davenport; and July 23 at Wildwoods Convention Center in Wildwood.[12] The 78-minute double album comprises 16 songs from the band's first three albums.[13] The live performances featured elaborate setups. For example, during the song "100,000 Years," crew members used flamethrowers to engulf the stage in a ring of fire, and Peter Criss' drum kit rose high above the other band members.[6] "People have argued whether Alive! is a purely live recording or somehow enhanced. The answer is: yes, we enhanced it. Not to hide anything, not to fool anyone. But who wanted to hear a mistake repeated endlessly? Who wanted to hear an out-of-tune guitar? For what? Authenticity?" -Paul Stanley[14] Kiss' wild and energetic stage presence did not translate well to the live recordings.[5] Stanley and Simmons had several miscues, such as playing the wrong chords, knocking over mics, and not singing directly into the mic.[5] Producer Eddie Kramer knew that significant dubbing was needed to make the album sound good.[5] For many years, Kiss denied the use of dubbing on Alive!.[5] In Simmons' 2001 autobiography, Kiss and Make-up: A Memoir, he admitted the band had done some post-production alterations: "There have always been rumors that the Alive! record was substantially reworked in the studio. It's not true. We did touch up the vocal parts and fix some of the guitar solos, but we didn't have the time or money to completely rework the recordings. What we wanted, and what we got, was proof of the band's rawness and power."[9] In a 2003 episode of Ultimate Albums, Kiss fully admitted to overdubbing the album. Stanley said: "What we felt was necessary was to capture the energy of the performance, not necessarily having it note for note of what actually happened." Simmons said: "Most people assume it was all live. It wasn't." Criss said: "We touched up what we had to do and I think it only made it better."[15] Kiss rerecorded parts of the album at Electric Lady Studios in August.[16] The live recordings were so heavily altered, only Criss' drum tracks remained untouched.[16] Even the audience was doctored, as Kramer spliced together the best cheers and screams from various Kiss performances.[5] The band wanted the listener to feel like they were in fact in the audience watching the show, and since directly recording an audience would not sound good, this was considered to be the next best solution.[5] Speaking about the heavy studio redubs years later, Kramer said: "Who cares if it was overdubbed? The energy still comes through."[17]”
@@kasperkjrsgaard1447 Let me simplify history. I saw Kiss many times at the Michigan Palace in Detroit Michigan. The most I ever paid was 5.00 Rush backed them up that night. The cover of Kiss alive, was a picture from the stage at the Michigan Palace. I was in sixth row of the Cobo Hall show. Tickets might of been 6.50 They had no sound problems, they had no guitars going out of tune, they had no Mike stands falling over. The show went flawlessly. The album that was released sounded identical to the sound I heard, and witnessed that night. The kids holding up the banner on the back of the album cover were sitting in the third row in front of me. Eddie Kramer turned down the gig with Boston, for this production of Kiss Alive. His goal was to really do "nothing" so the album sounded raw and clear. That's exactly how this album sounded. Kiss Alive 2 was garbage, and sounded like garbage. I don't know who produced it. It’s not that he’s wrong, he’s very right…BUT then why didn’t Mick lead a charge to oust Keith?? It’s called respect!! Gene was in his 70s when KISS did their final farewell tour, chasing very young girls, 50 years skidding on the edge of the precipice himself.
Hypocrisy is easy for some, money makes it easier, and he made lots, screwed Ace and Peter, let them fall.
@regtaylor1163 He's really a creep. His sex addiction really took its toll on his family too. A man in his 70's shouldn't be looking at young girls like they're on the menu, IMO
@@regtaylor1163- omg that's complete bullshit. No one had to have someone dress like Gene just in case he didn't show. Gene was never late. Gene didn't fall down drunk on stage. Gene did crash his car and they could only put makeup on half his face to do the album cover shoot for their 2nd album. Nope that was all Ace. Don't even try that shit. You're either such an Ace fan you're making excuses for Ace or just a damn liar
For Phuc sake, Gene, Ace was in Kiss twice from 73 to 82 from 96 to 2001 and both times he left because it wasn't fun anymore
Ace quit twice
So? He was wasted out of his mind both times.
Yes. Suggest if you're interested you read Ace's imo excellent autobiography. Ace is brutally honest about his behaviour and F ups.
Right but Ace and Peter had a serious problem, they were gentiles and splitting the cash evenly wasn't right, was it Gene?
Nothing wrong with sex addiction.
Maybe the problem has been that somebody needed to be "HARDER" on Gene.
Despite what Gene says, Ace and Peter turned out all right.
I am not a great KISS fan, but I think that my favorite KISS album is Dressed To Kill. They sound very cohesive. I really enjoy Love Her All I Can, including Ace's leads.
Dressed to kill is a marvelous album!
Cowbell prescription filled.
They only had 9 top 40 hits
He’s not wrong. But on the other hand, alcohol and drugs may open up a shy person. Life’s not just black or white, there are many factors that is into play.
I wonder what Gene’s hair looks like underneath his helmet.
Apparently good enough to land a playboy model Shannon & thousands of other women.
@@jamiesonmathias7859 No, silly boy, it’s all about money. If Gene Simmons wasn’t wealthy do you think he’d have landed “a playboy model Shannon and thousands of other women”? You’re delusional if you think otherwise.
He wishes he'd have been more of an asshole than he was? All that would've done was break up the band faster than it did to begin with...
Just saw Ace on his solo tour and he’s as bad ass as ever. Soldiered through a broken rib to put on an amazing show. Solo band is tight!
Growing up I always heard them referring to the pub. That was my little Canadian town’s way of saying -the bar in the 70s.
Peter and Ace were their own worst enemies.
24 years past retirement
Hey there, cool video. Where can I get some of those awesome t-shirts? Couldn’t find them on Google. Thanks ✌🏻🤙🏻
Chaim Witz hair looks like 4 ot steel wool?
great for window cleaning
Ace and Peter would have been fired in 76 they got lazy and drugged out Paul should have kicked Gene out after Animalize he got lazy
Take any girl I wanted ... lust is yet another sin Geeeene, Geeeeze. He was doing good then pulled the Ted Nugent "I never drank nor smoked ... two out of three ain't bad."
Gene’s been using that “gymnasium” joke for 30 years now. He needs some new material.
You are the greatest ❤❤
Gene's hair has reached its final form, it's Darth Vaders helmet, made from a brillo pad.
Gene needs to get a wig that looks like real hair, lol
He cleans his dishes with his head.
@@Multiverse14G3c🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
You'd think with all his money he'd be able to afford a better wig
The one thing I've always loved that Gene said about his sobriety, at the end of the day his purpose for staying clean was he didn't want to hurt his mom. I always loved that about him
I regret he wasn't harder on Paul Stanley!
Very insightful guy.
Peter and ace gave kiss swagger
Ace quit twice, Peter quit once and was fired once. They weren't let go 3 times.
I wish you both all the best
Gene's take on alcohol and never imbibing is absolutely incredible. He must be the only rockstar in history to have never taken a drink nor fallen at one time or another, to the temptations of mind altering substances. I mean, consider the thousands of concerts, in hundreds of cities for decades... it's just astounding.
Wasn't Ted Nugent another one who mentioned he never indulged too?
Gene Simmons is the definition of a pseudo intellectual
Ace and Pete - made Paul and Gene tougher.
Those first 5 years - were insane ! Fast ! Historic !
He is addicted to wigs
Should have been harder on his wigmaker
Ace was not let go from KISS three times. Ace left KISS twice: The first time was in 1982, the second time was in 2001. The reason Paul and Gene continue to say this in interviews is because they know they’re not gonna get called out.
You ve got it gene and you have created the biggest Band in the world ❤
Ace N Peter are the main sound of Kiss Gene`s vocals are awful,Paul stanley cant play guitar for sheet !
He looks like a chia pet
LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I heard him say that Shannon said he was her chia pet
who did the theme music ?
Simmons is a hypocrite. The Kiss name is used on many alcoholic beverages, him and Stanley make a big profit. Listen to the classic Kiss alive 1 recorded in Detroit Michigan. Right before they play "Cold Gin" Stanley is talking to the audience audience, promoting alcohol and getting high in general. Anybody can listen to it. The Best live album Kiss ever recorded.
Mostly re-recorded in the studio.
@@kasperkjrsgaard1447 I was there at Cobo Hall in Detroit Michigan. Eddie Kramer produced it. He added no overdubs.
For example, during the song "100,000 Years," crew members used flamethrowers to engulf the stage in a ring of fire, and Peter Criss' drum kit rose high above the other band members.[6]
"People have argued whether Alive! is a purely live recording or somehow enhanced. The answer is: yes, we enhanced it. Not to hide anything, not to fool anyone. But who wanted to hear a mistake repeated endlessly? Who wanted to hear an out-of-tune guitar? For what? Authenticity?"
-Paul Stanley[14]
Kiss' wild and energetic stage presence did not translate well to the live recordings.[5] Stanley and Simmons had several miscues, such as playing the wrong chords, knocking over mics, and not singing directly into the mic.[5] Producer Eddie Kramer knew that significant dubbing was needed to make the album sound good.[5] For many years, Kiss denied the use of dubbing on Alive!.[5] In Simmons' 2001 autobiography, Kiss and Make-up: A Memoir, he admitted the band had done some post-production alterations: "There have always been rumors that the Alive! record was substantially reworked in the studio. It wasn't." Criss said: "We touched up what we had to do and I think it only made it better."[15]
Kiss rerecorded parts of the album at Electric Lady Studios in August.[16] The live recordings were so heavily altered, only Criss' drum tracks remained untouched.[16] Even the audience was doctored, as Kramer spliced together the best cheers and screams from various Kiss performances.[5] The band wanted the listener to feel like they were in fact in the audience watching the show, and since directly recording an audience would not sound good, this was considered to be the next best solution.[5] Speaking about the heavy studio redubs years later, Kramer said: "Who cares if it was overdubbed?
All I know, the Kiss Alive album, sounded identical to the show I attended, heard, and witnessed. Detroit understood Kiss as a band, before anybody knew who they were.
Kiss needs to just go away...
Lifelong Kiss fan here. You're absolutely right
Why?
Ace has had more hits than Paul or Gene.
hahahaha
@@BTR-xw4of There was no mention of the solo albums! Just the horrendous statement that Ace got more hits than the other members! Wich is true regarding to the solo albums, but sure as hell not true if we consider all of KISS career. Not a single Ace song is on the top 10 of all KISS songs. Not one!!! Without grading them, the following songs are KISS biggest hits, if we consider selling numbers in all countries and all eras: Rock and roll all nite, Crazy crazy nights, Heavens on fire, I was made for loving you, I love it loud, Love Gun, Shandi, Beth, Lick it up, Forever! That was why I laughed!
I used to judge Paul and Gene for the way they treated Ace and Peter, and then I became business partners with someone who became strung out on drugs. I get it now but Ace is still my favorite Kiss member.
Gene should know better, as a New Yorker, than to say no one is witty or funny or intelligent while drunk - Jackie Gleason was incredible in his prime thru into his later years, and was wasted constantly - while writing jokes, executing them off the cuff and dancing around with perfect agility. Gleason was a powerhouse. Booze somehow fueled him in those decades.
Ted says the same thing..
For me Kiss will ALWAYS be Ace & Peter !!!
K eep
I nsulting

Ace was never fired he quit
Didn't you listen?🎧
Gene said clearly: "They were let go".👋
Great to see Dark Helmet found work after the unfortunate destruction of Megamaid.
If you want to know about Kiss. Ask ABBA
i feel bad that they all didn't work a little harder to make it work... gene and paul spreading the money and power, paul and ace being more disciplined and staying more sober... staying sharp... they are four really talented guys.
Gene as a human being is a great rock star.
I am lucky that you seen eachother perhaps every day ❤❤
Gee, that’s swell Geney baby. How about some pork chops and applesauce.
Brady bunch?
Wise man, wise words.
Is that hair or some kind of hat?
Paul Stanley once said bad mouthing Peter Criss "He didn't get along in the band, also he was much older than the rest of us, he was almost like an old man." Really Paul? Gene was born in 1949, Ace was born in 1951, Paul in 1952 and Peter was born in 1945...Wow! By that reasoning Bill Wyman should've been kicked out of the Stones because he was 7 years older than Keith.
Gene is a harsh guy but he's super intelligent and based.
Well, thats gene
You never got all of this complaining and bickering with RUSH.
Agreed. Geddy and Neil were not original members either.
Gene, tell us what your father was like. Did you know him?
You have a great personality Gene you are very symphatic ❤many greetings to Paul ❤❤
They don't understand that Peter and Ace just couldn't stand Paul and Gene. They can't accept this fact cause they're too full of themselves. Tommy and Eric probably could cause they're using someone else's makeup and persona. Where and what band was gonna provide that for them. Now that it's done you probably will never here of those two guys ever again. But thank to Peter and Ace they made a lot of 🤑 money
Gene should have given Ace a reacharound every once in a while
You and Paul have so many difficults gehabt and you are strong er than ever
I’m guessing that if wasn’t for gene and Paul the band would’ve fizzled out long ago.EVERY successful idea has a leader.props to the demon boss man.🙂
gene and paul judge about booze and drugs while taking psych meds so dopey
It’s not that he’s wrong, he’s very right…BUT then why didn’t Mick lead a charge to oust Keith?? It’s called respect!! Plus, they were smart enough to design a work schedule for every year that gave them some time to breathe. Gene and Paul were NEVER going to do that!! Even Neil Peart talked about the KISS situation and what it can do to the more soft hearted type guys…
Gene loves him.
Ace just put a new record out.
Gene did a funny voice in this interview.
Kiss are and always will be Gene Peter Paul Ace! Save the Vinnie / Eric Carr years!
There were 4 people in the band. a simple example, all 4 put out a main autobiography.....yet only 2 narrated it themselves and the other 2 just fobbed it off on some dude. guess which 2 are the multi-millionaires and which 2 are basically worth what any 50 year old regular joe is worth. 2 were hard working and willing to put in the work, the others wouldnt or couldnt. if any of you had to deal with a Ace or Peter at your workplaces you'd go insane with anger. they literally had hundreds of thousands pushed on them and they couldnt get it together
Same wig dealer as Steven Seagal's
Gene is a smart man. he can sell you a kiss rock for 20💰. staying away from drugs kept him rich!
Hes rich with zero friends. I find that extremely sad
Having a lot of gullible KISS fans helped in that aspect.
