I understand the "wanting a country house". We currently live in a small, dark townhouse in Belgium... let's say a looooot of growlights 😅 We're looking for a house in the South of France, and have found one with a complete glass wall 🥰 fingers crossed we can get it!!! 🤞🤞🤞 And oh yeah it has more than 5ha of land, so big garden, veggie patch and sheep/goats ❤
I am in NZ and I am laughing when you talk about Sophora, in Maori it is called Kowhai (pronounced kofai), I love this plant and have a few species that grow into big trees. But also it is so lovely to see these plants being appreciated on the other side of the world!
Kōwhai! 🌿 That’s such a beautiful name, and I love that you’re growing it into big trees in NZ! It’s amazing how plants can connect us across the world. 🥰
Fernleaf cactus is absolutely one of my very favourites! I have mine in a Wally-grow planter hanging on the wall. If it flowers I will DIE of happiness!
OMG, a Fernleaf Cactus in a Wally-grow planter?! 😍 That’s such a cool setup! If it flowers, please share pics because I think I’d DIE of happiness too, I was over the moon when mine did! 🌸✨ Crossing my fingers for you! 🤞
You know what's crazy?! I got a scindapsis treb. Moonlight from Walmart in the horrible dense substrate from costa farms about two years ago. I NEVER EVER replanted it and I water it about once a month. It's in high indirect light from an intense grow light (no natural light) and it's doing fantastic!! I've propped it easily and started two other full plants from it that are in a chunky mix but watered much more frequently. I can't believe how well it's done LOL
Wow, that Scindapsus Moonlight sounds like a champ! 🌱✨ Who would’ve thought leaving it in dense substrate could work so well?! Love that it’s thriving and propping like crazy! 💚
“I need a bigger space so that I can have more plants” Id love some more windows on the back of the house 😂 Currently contemplating how to put some more growlights on the ceiling in the living room so that I can use the North-Western window at the front… is that a good idea? Most definitely not! 😅 Im not surprised… everyone has their own taste 😊 Plants that unalived themselves (gosh I feel modern saying that 😆) that I would buy again: - Begonia Roseopunctata (I a don’t have a terrarium so it melted) it was sooooo pretty though 🩷 - Cristia Vespertilionis (I had thrips back then and this plant doesn’t tolerate those at all) - Kumara Plicatilis (arrived with root rot and never recovered) - Aglaonema Rosy (its not dead though, currently in rehab -again- 😖)(the one in pon is still fine but I want 2 of them) Plants I gave away that I would maybe buy again: - Philodendron Brandtianum - (perhaps Syngonium milk confetti?) Plants I gave away that would buy again if I had a bigger house: - Philodendron Martianum Fatboy - Philodendron Florida Ghost - Philodendron Paraiso Verde - Philodendron Sharoniae or perhaps a Philodendron Tenue Your Anthurium thing… that you still want to succeed in it… I had that with Alocasia… I succeeded so now I gave them away 😂. And I still have it with the colourful Aglaonema… I MUST succeed… but those I will keep 😊 Will you do a staple video next 🤣 (plants that you would definitely buy if you had to restart your collection from scratch)?
@ hahaha it also helps re-evaluating what we have (-> is now considering rehoming Monstera Albo 🤯… is it pretty? yes… Do I love it? yes… Is it nice in its spot? yes… Would I buy it now if I didn’t already have it? NO! 😅 but may keep it cause its pretty and has a spot)
I feel this SO deeply! 😂 More windows, more growlights-it’s never enough, right? Your list of “plants I’d buy again” is pure gold! And plants that “unalived themselves”? Modern plant slang perfection! 😆
Prince of Orange is amazing and I have it on a moss pole. It was really easy to get it to climb, but it still takes up a lot of space(but a bit less now).
Prince of Orange on a moss pole? Sounds like a dream setup! 🌱💚 I love that it helps manage the space issue, even if just a little. Thanks for the inspo! 🌟
Ashamed to say that mine is in a self-watering pot in Leca and it's been there for 3 years. I think I've fertilized it twice this year. Poor little Prince.
As an ex-Sephora employee, I was away from my phone but listening to the video, and thought you were talking about the store Sephora for a second until I went to my phone and saw the name of the plant was Sophora 😂 had me doing a double take so quickly 😂
I can’t live without my scindapsus exotica! Totally agree! It’s propagating from a cutting and I can’t wait for it to be a big plant. The orange philodendron does look stunning wow
The Sophora prostrata is an awesome plant! When part of your collection, where was it placed during the winter? Mine is growing in an unheated greenhouse that's part of the house and it's doing quite well, but indoors it seems to struggle. I have noticed that the somewhat woody specimens sold in the shops tend to have scale as it is impossible to distinguish from the same coloured bark! If anyone is struggling with their store bought plants, check for scale and I've noticed my Sophoras to be quite hungry. If all else fails, they propagate really well from seed! Just find a good youtube guide on how to to it, I had a high germination rate following yt instructions :)
Sophora tips-thank you so much! 🙌 Growing it in an unheated greenhouse sounds perfect. And scale camouflaging on the bark? That’s such an important detail! Propagation success stories like yours are so inspiring! 🌿✨
Brilliant idea! A tension curtain rail could totally work for hanging plants, and no drilling-GENIUS! 🪴✨ Thanks for sharing that tip! I will see if I can get one long enough
I found a $5 Philodendron Red Sun at a grocery store. But I wish it was a Prince of Orange. All those reddish, red, brownish Philodendrong that have been available commercially even if similar to a Prince of Orange, they can't compare to it. Neon orange beats some dark red any day, at least in the foliage department.
Per usual Memo blows up my wish list. Its why we love you. Ive considered Prince of Orange for a long time! The size scares me.... My ROF I understand gets crazy too. 😢
I had a POO that died before I knew anything. I saved two little off-shoots that have been tiny for like a YEAR! This, THIS is the year that they will blow up. I believe it. 😂
Haha, I love that I’m blowing up your wishlist! 🎉 The Prince of Orange is a stunner, but yeah, the size can be intimidating. And ROF? Definitely a plant with BIG personality! 😂 Don’t let the fear stop you-you’ve got this! 💪🌱
This is very interesting, I discovered some plants, and I said to myself ah, I have to look at this 😆 I want a classic orchid, I killed 2, the first one, I didn't know much about plants (even less about epyphite), root rot, to be honest, the substrate was terrible and a friend told me that the plant had rotted before me and it's common with orchids (in Canada), a lot of sphagnum moss, a little bark, it retains too much water, but the stores prefer it requires less maintenance. The second one arrived with a lot of mealy bug, when I discovered this so as not to give them to all my plants, I threw this plant in the trash 😆 Space, light and time are often a problem !
Oh wow, what a journey with orchids! 😅 Root rot AND mealybugs? 😖 But you’re right-space, light, and time are huge factors. Maybe a classic orchid is waiting for you to try again! 🪴💚
I definitely tried some plants I have killed before once I got a better grasp on how to grow them. Then once I did try again and they thrived I got bored with them.
Plants I'm willing to give one more try but wait til warmer weather philo patriciae ( on my 3rd ) and she's failing fast. Anthurium queen of hearts does good until I transfer to pon it immediately defoliates and rots I am now on my 4th of this no matter how much time I let it acclimate, lol. Would also give peperomia maculosa, Jose bueno, ecugeneras Zamora, century, and ecugenera queens, cannot figure these out I've had two of each all have died. I am in 2025 really focusing on my philos, and anthurium though just time to narrow it down. I don't need every monstera in every variety or a wide form and a narrow form, lol.
Wow, you’ve been through so much with your plants! 😅 Philo Patriciae and Anthurium Queen of Hearts are SO worth the effort, though. Here’s hoping the next ones thrive for you! 🌱✨ Narrowing down is tough, but focusing on philos and anthuriums is such a great plan! 💪
Make a trip to New Braunfels, Texas USA and I can take you to a nursery to get a variegated Devil’s Backbone. 🤣. I know you’re not into smaller plants but the dwarf variegated Devil’s Backbone is awesome. Love mine.
That sounds AMAZING! Bigger space, more plants-yes, please! 🪴✨ New Braunfels, Texas, here I come (at least in my dreams 😂). The variegated Devil’s Backbone sounds awesome, and now I’m intrigued by the dwarf version too! Thanks for the tip! 🌿💚
Didn't know some of them. Interesting. But a few that I've replaced multiple times (either because they unalived themselves or because I sold them): A Waroc, H Linearis, tons of M Thai Constellation and Albo Variegata, Tradescantia Zebrina, Alocasia Dragon Scale and Silver Dragon. Other plants I'd replace in a heartbeat: For sure my Gloriosum and Gloriosum hybrids, will be replacing my H Serpens, and if my A Pallidifolium would go, I'd replace her, too. Also, might have placed an order with Ecua on the weekend to replace my A Metallicum. :D And then I realized I might be traveling when it arrives. Will see if I can postpone shipping till January.
I was gifted a Ficus villosa this year, which is just an incredibly cool plant. It was in a little plastic cup with dome lid, and I had it in my tent. At some point I decided that, since it was 82% humidity in there, it'd be fine to just remove the cup. Two later: dead as a doornail. And that's the plant I killed faster than any other, ever .... 😆
Hey Dave 👋👋👋👋 Ficus Villosa in a plastic cup? 😱 They look so cool, but you are the first person I have heard to attempt growing one, so big time kudos! “Dead as a doornail 😂” plants always leave their mark, don’t they? Thanks for sharing your story-it’s so relatable! 🌿✨ I am trying to remember which plant did this for me, but I think it was the begonia I mentioned at the beginning of the video. It unalived itself so fast
I saw a tray of the devil's backbone in conservatory archives the other week for a reasonable price and I think they also have the euphorbia platycada too, could be worth a look?!

@Planty-Mandy how does the song go? 🎶Lay me down on a bed of fern leaf cactus🎶 Sink me in the river, at dawn…. 😚

Some very beautiful plants Memo 👍 Love the Prince of Orange, it is so easy care 😀🇨🇦
Thank you, Linda! 😊 The Prince of Orange really is so easy-care and SO beautiful-totally agree!🪴

You poor thing. Scarred 😂
LOL, that’s hilarious! 😂 A Sophora isn’t quite Sephora, but hey, both are equally tempting in their own ways! Thanks for the laugh! 😄
I can’t live without my scindapsus exotica! Totally agree! It’s propagating from a cutting and I can’t wait for it to be a big plant. The orange philodendron does look stunning wow

Could you use a tension curtain rail for your hanging plants? You could get a long one and then you wouldnt need to drill fixtures.
Yes! I’m doing this in my bath tub (it’s like a rectangular tiny room of a bath area with a perfect length for a tension rod)
Brilliant idea! A tension curtain rail could totally work for hanging plants, and no drilling-GENIUS! 🪴✨ Thanks for sharing that tip! I will see if I can get one long enough
Great video Memo, I really enjoyed that and let’s hope you can get your country retreat, maybe further up in Lincolnshire for that barn conversion? 😊
Thank you so much! 😊 A country retreat in Lincolnshire sounds like the ultimate dream-and a barn conversion? Yes, please! 🏡✨

I put my silver jewel begonia in pon because it hates getting the stems wet.
Smart move putting the Silver Jewel Begonia in pon! 🌱 I’ve heard they can be SO picky about wet stems. Glad it’s thriving in your care! 💚✨
So weird, but so cute at the same time. That’s what I’M going for!!!
Haha, “so weird but so cute” is the BEST vibe-for plants AND life! 😂 Glad you’re loving the quirkiness! 🌿✨
Bigger space, more plants, makes sense to me.

I have a one strike and you're out policy, except for a fatsia japonica which I am obsessed with but which is difficult to grow indoors
A one-strike policy-love it! 😂 But for a Fatsia Japonica? Yeah, that one’s definitely worth bending the rules for. Obsessed with it too! 🌱✨
