  • German Chancellor Olaf Scholz has welcomed Chinese cars in the European market, but said that competition must be fair. He said this means no dumping and overproduction, and ensuring that copyrights are not infringed. He was speaking on the second of his three-day visit to China, with trade tensions between the two sides in focus. Mr Scholz will meet President Xi Jinping and Premier Li Qiang in Beijing tomorrow. Olivia Siong reports.

      Exactly. Hence why Germany wants to retain the trade status quo and Olaf Scholz's visit to China. Consider the EU percentage of cars produced which are exported as a whole, this would be much lower. Scholz is trying to mediate between other EU nations and China to prevent a trade war which would be particularly damaging to Germany. The rest of the EU fairly points out the large subsidies the Chinese government has been providing as an industrial policy which is facilitating dumping and Olaf wants to reach a compromise between the interests of the rest of the EU and China. Otherwise the EU is going to introduce its own industrial policy, trade tariffs.

      As the entire planet desires peace, the one and only most overcapacity industry in the world is the US military industry. In order to sustain the over capacity of this industry, US government continuously provokes conflicts everywhere in the world. Had US lowered its military budget (per capita) to the same level as China, it would please the entire planet and it could supply solar panels all over the world for free and get the Chinese out of business.

    • @oliverbusby8850
      @oliverbusby8850 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      It grabs market share, potentially knocking rival EU companies out of business. To compete, EU governments will then subsidise their industries to remain in business, reducing government revenue for public services, increasing public debt, increasing taxes, reducing consumption. This is overcapacity. In this situation, everyone is funding the production of cars but no one has the money to purchase them, leading to a global recession.

    Germany may be found guilty for its facilitation of Israel's genocide in the besieged Gaza Strip soon by the ICJ.
    (Nicaragua takes on Germany over Gaza genocide: an interview with Carlos Argüello Gómez)
    Carlos Argüello Gómez argued Nicaragua's case at the ICJ in 1986 which brought massive penalties against the United States for its illegal dirty war on Nicaragua at the time. He is now arguing for Nicaragua's case against Germany.

      Nicaragua is yapping because they want money. Brings me to the question why all countries that had firm ties with the USSR or were parts of the Soviet Union are now so damn poor in the first place. Except for China and Russia. And We know why Russia is not "poor" yet.

    Chinese electric cars are *heavily subsidized* by many levels of Chinese government. Some people bought them, threw them away without driving, and still made profits.
    - That's why there are millions of new cars abandoned by owners across the country.
    And this is not an exaggeration.
