Here in the UK the two cars are similar money.. I love the E46, but it seems the 987 goes just as well on track (if not better) and doesn't have endless amounts of huge and vital maintenance job that all cost £xxxx's that the BMW does (Vanos, rod bearings, cooling system, rust etc). What are your thoughts on this?
hey! Yes the BMW may demand more maintenance. Vanos and rod bearings are indeed a common vital issue, cooling and rust will depend on the car you own and how you use it. The 987 Facelift (with MA1 engine) seems more reliable on paper that's correct. I however think that the M3 maintenance is still not exagerated since these "big" services will not come very often. I would still recommend to try both cars and focus first on the driving experience :) Also: both cayman and M3 will climb in value anyway if they are loved and well maintained :)
