Porsche Cayman S 987 - Red Bull Ring F1
First time on the Red Bull Ring F1 Track. This is the last session of the day. A quiet session with less cars on track. RBR is a very nice track! However it is made for powerful cars with serious track capabilities. The cayman felt good but not entirely at home with "only" 320hp. The track is also exemely demanding for brakes and tires. The infrastructure and personnel there are amazing. We had a great time!
Also the Gopro didn't want to start so it was filmed with a phone. Not too bad, but the angle is not ideal

Cayman S 987 vs BMW M3 e46 FULL SEND!
มุมมอง 2.7Kปีที่แล้ว
Many of you have been asking how the Cayman compares to an e46 M3. There you go :) Both cars have similar specs, KW Clubsport, sticky tires, Manual gearbox. But the cayman is stripped and therefore much lighter. The BMW has the stock interior. With fresh tires these cars are almost equally fast. The Cayman then gains an advantage when the M3's tires overheat a bit. The M3 is however way cooler,...

Season opening at last :) A nice lap chasing a beautiful 991.1 GT3. Nothing too crazy but a good pace and a lot of fun. I could keep up thanks to traffic ^^ This is my first time on the Ring with Michelin Cup2 tires. They have tons of grip, but did not feel good on corner entries (bit too much oversteer). I then checked my pressures after this lap... 2.8 bars in the front and over 3 bars in the...

Porsche Cayman S 987 mk2 - Zolder

Short video of my first trackday in Zolder. Taking it easy still looking for the ideal lines on a drying track. Zolder is way more enjoyable than expected. It is fast and very technical. I will definitely go back! First time on track with the new Michelin Cup 2s. On the wet they were a bit tricky. On the dry they are straight beasts. Way faster and way better feeling than the Federals. Let us s...

First Nürburgring Trackday with the new Porsche. It took several Sessions to get used to the car and the speed. The very fisrt sub8 attempt was successful with a 7:58. Tiny code brown in Pflanzgarten :) The cayman is a beast with the KW suspension. It will do a 7:45 with a bit of practice, no traffic and proper tires. First Track drive with the new Cayman. Cayman S 987.2 - no PASM - no Chrono Pack - 18inches The car is 100% stock, except for the RSL29 Brakepads (very noisy in these conditions...). The tires are quite old and did not perform well. The car itself has a lot of potential, great engine, great brakes. Very tricky balance in the wet! Now the mods can start for next season

M3 is bad as
Who the hell takes a Miata and a Camaro to the Nurburgring! Funny as hell. Great driving and video.
Crazy lap had 10-20 more seconds from traffic too
Awesome recovery. Credit driver and machine. I wasn’t expecting that jump either 😅 couldn’t stop watching 🍻
presque le même temp avec la mienne ^* 3min05 env fédéral rsr, j vois le meme equilibre sous vireux en entrée ^* ca va changer cette année ^*
Beautiful cars and sound❤👍🏻👍🏻
I just watched your other Integra Type R videos and I love them! This car is also very lively wow!! I know it has more power and is way better than the Integra but hearing this engine rev...I think it's got that Integra feeling to it or am I wrong..? I do mean this in a positive manner❤👍🏻✌🏻
@chiefslief1886 thanks for your comment mate - I feel the exact same way, the Integra is slower but is remains my favorite car of all times. That's why I have it glued to the cayman's dashboard :)
Nice driving! 02:04 vtec was really nice too❤
Wow thatvwas some nice driving! ❤👍🏻
Nice drive!!
Hi Tobi - what bump/rebound settings do you use for the Nurburgring? I used stock KW settings and the car felt a little bouncy (although very composed compared to stock)
Looks so fun. Roll cage might not be a bad idea lol
Loose the 200 lbs passenger. Much faster.
Good lap
got middle radiator?
Hey- no middle Radiator installed
@@tobitetdebit2330 did the water temp arrow stay exactly in the middle during the whole run?
Such long gearing, needs a shorter final drive. Also why do all that work and do no engine modifications??
Hey - yes the gearing can seem a bit long. But it does fit the car well and allows a very high top speed so I think it works pretty good. Engine mods are not that simple when you do track driving => most of the time it will cost you reliability and can take away the confidence you have in your car IMO. Investing in weight, suspension and driving skills is the way to go :)
By by clio...
I love the little version of your car on the dash.
Fun fact: the car on the dash is my old Honda Integra type R :) because I still think the Integra is the best car I've ever owned :)
got central radiator?
Hey - no central Radiator - never really needed it so far because I usually don't drive very long sessions
Bela brincadeira.
Badass. You are a great driver, and we all love your beautiful Porsche.
Well thanks a lot man :)))
Hi Tobi! Have you installed a FVD-Oil Pan kit? Or have you done anything regareding the Oil supply system? What is you tire sizes? What else have improved in the theme cooling? An other waterpump? Thank you very much! Regards Matthias
Hey man - the facelift engine does not suffer from oil starvation so no need for an aftermarket oil pan as far as I know. I don't have further engine cooling mods. Some people install a 3rd radiator. I would consider it if I lived in a very warm region. Tire size is 235 19 front and 265 19 rear (same as stock when you have the 19inches optional wheels) Cheers :) don't hesitate if you have more questions
@@tobitetdebit2330 Thanks your reply! Yes that is right, I just try to figure it out, weather the MA1 engine also needs some mods or not regarding the oil supply. I've read that it doesn't hurt to install a deep sump here either. (But can be that the companies just want to sell their products) You know, I am looking for also a cayman and mainly because I want to visit HHR 5-6 times a year and the mx5 became already inconvinient to get to the track.. So because there are not a great reasult for the FL modells, I tried to find a good and promising solution again oil starvation on the M96 M97 engines. Then I realized, I won't sleep very well if I have one these engines.. So it seems I have to wait until somebody sells his car... Do you monitor somehow the oil or (accurate) water temperature? Cheers (from Rosenfeld)

Looks like fun!. My neck is sore after watching the video.
M3 scoots pretty good.
I like your style with the interior. Leather dash, no carpets, no headliner, sun visors.
ca ricanne pas
ah ça non ^^
Still slightly upset you stripped out a car with the uber rare Cocoa extended leather interior, but nice to see a 987.2 being driven properly.
Yeah I know it's a shame for the nice interior... But you would be surprised how in the end most people just want a standard black interior ^^
@@tobitetdebit2330 No, I wouldn't be surprised! It's why there are so few now. Nobody ordered Cocoa when the cars were new! And it's why they're all bloody black! It's worse in the UK. In the US and Europe you see a few cars with Cocoa. In the UK, I've only ever seen one gen 2 Cayman with Cocoa. 😭
Can you list out all of your mods for this car? Would love to know!
Hi Rob Check out my Nürburgring 7:58 video all the mods are listed there :)
Tobi, could I ask what you stripped out to get down to sub 1300kg ?
hey man - I got rid of all the interior plastic pannels, carpets, sound system, radio + roof lining + all the insulation and carpets in the engine bay + lighter battery + replaced the seats with recaro pole position seats (biggest gain). But most of it you have already seen in the Red Bull Ring video. Also possible but expensive to lose more weight: Aluminium doors from Turbo / lighter rims / Exhaust System
Have you watched the clip slowed down at platzgarden? I quickly switched it to half speed, you literally downshift as your going over the crest but dropping your right hand to change your left hand turns the wheels as it becomes light, Well caught though! I feel like its the trickiest part of the circuit due the the crest and minimal time fore the turn in point on the next corner.
very good observation :) it was a driving mistake (like many others) but at the wrong place and wrong time ^^
@@tobitetdebit2330 There’s a group of us in 987’s going in 4 weeks time, All have cars setup slightly different so going to be interesting how we all find it. I’m going from my TDI beetle to the cayman so it should be way better but also have to take it a bit more steady as it’s easier to get into a bad situation! Your laps have been a good watch to see what the caymans like 👌
@Mark_Meisho_Thompson late season nordschleife :) sounds great! For me the driving season is over :) You will have a blast in the cayman. One advice: take it easy in the first few laps. The track feels very different in a >300hp car! I personally needed to adjust my driving and habits quite a bit when I drove the cayman the first time there
@@tobitetdebit2330 This is the final days out for the year tbf, for a spa/ring double header it was March or October, Non of us felt ready in December to go in march, I had a new suspension setup I wanted to try closer to home to see how it handled first. Will definitely take your advice though and start slow and make progress from there!
Wow for stock exhaust sounds quite stout. Great driving sir 👏. As a 987 owner this is what dreams look like
it's cause all the sound deadening is gone
I bought myself a cayman S a week ago. Your videos helped me to push myself into buying one. Ps don't change your car to something more expensive, lol. Only kidding. Love the car.
sounds great! what Cayman did you get? Do you like the car? are you planning a bit of Track action? :)
@tobitetdebit2330 Thanks for the reply. I got 2008 987 in metallic meteor grey. No, I don't plan on racing it, though my grown up sons think I should also.👍
Nice driving as always Tobi - quite nice to get a look at the inside of your car to see just how much you've stripped it out! Do you find it much louder with the insulation in the back missing? Mine is deafening without the carpets back there (drove it whilst they were out for some work to be done)... Mine is not standard however... Love the interior leather colour too, almost a shame it's stripped lol
Thanks a lot :) The car is much louder but it's not killing me when I wear earplugs on long drives. The aftermarket exhaust on yours surely makes it way too loud without all the carpets...
Don't suppose you weighed the car before you took everything out? (ie, have an idea what they weigh WITH the standard interior) ?
@@pintsizedpistons I stripped out 85 Kilos from the car (this includes switching to a smaller Battery) and it was then weighted at 1290Kg without Fuel.
5th is too long, lol. Love the DC2. 😊
Must have been dumped by his girlfriend to drive like that. Fantastic !
No it's OK she's still here 😅
As a Porsche owner, seeing the Corvette pass these Caymans makes me feel so sad
Why sad? :) Corvettes are great, especially this one (I think it was a ZR1 or a tuned Z06). And no worries, there were enough bigger Porsches on track passing that Corvette ;)
Glad I read the whole discription, I was ready to cancel the cup 2 tyres I ordered for my cayman.
Glad to hear that you like the GT3 master cylinder. I'm installing mine tomorrow. You had much better lines than the 991. Great driving.
Great driving! How many kilometers has the car in total and how many of them are on the Nordschleife?
I bought the car with a few kilometers already from a "normal" highway driver :) So most of the total mileage was not done on track :) Now I use it almost for track use only - I would say I drove around 20 laps of NS with the cayman so far
This really shows how much effort it takes to catch a gt3 and how little effort the gt3 uses to stay ahead
Yes and no :) for sure the GT3 has more power, but i think driving at this pace on the nordschleife does demand an effort in any car. The GT3 driver was definitely not chilling in this video :)
Nada mais do que a obrigação. É até covardia, uma disputa como essa.
Interesting to see just how rapidly that GT4 pulled away at just over 3 mins in. I wouldn't have thought the difference would be that big. I guess it was a 718 version with 420PS. But even so, when it went, it really went.
Yes :) it is a GT4rs with 500hp and PDK and it seemed to be very well driven. So yes, like kaiser sauze: he's gone 😅
@@tobitetdebit2330 Ah, I couldn't quite see that it was the RS. I guess that makes sense. Nice to see a 987.2 driven well, though. Bit sad about tearing out much of the Cocoa extended leather interior. Can't tell you how rare a 987.2 with Cocoa is here in the UK! 😉
Dammmmm
No HANS if he's in factory belts! The KWs are very harsh on the streets......I've got a lot of trees miles on mine, mostly to and from tracks. Tset drive one before you pull the trigger.
Awesome driving! What's the full list of modifications and how's the 987.2 for reliability?
