Sam, the black thing on the alcohol stove is used when the stove is not lit to keep the fumes down. You probably have figured that out by now. If not, that is why the boat is stinky now. :)
CapWalks1 I don’t find denatured alcohol to be that stinky but it does evaporate fairly quickly. The black thing is there to keep the alcohol from evaporating.

I may be wrong, but those spreader brackets looked cast aluminum. As I recall most people are switching to SS as the aluminum cracks when least expected and you can potentially lose the rig. Awesome new boat!

You may want to replace the anchor light with a tri-color LED. Much better to be seen while sailing at night than the deck mounted running lights. You can always use a portable anchor light if you don't want to run another wire up the mast.
Good idea. I feel like my deck mounted lights probably disappear between the wave troughs and also the deck mounted lights corrode so fast because of the saltwater.

Those look to be good anchors as well. I was going to get the mantus before I found the spade. I think all of the latest generation anchors are probably great. The weighted tip and not needing a roll bar sold me on the spade though. I also got an amazing deal on these used.
Have you thought about intermediate lifelines? I only have single lifelines on my Alberg 30, but have considered using low-stretch line instead of wire, so I don't have to drill the stanchions.
I really liked the name Swedish Fish but didn’t like the idea of reusing it. Pickled Herring is another traditional Swedish food so its kind of a play on that. Soon...
Better to run a 1/8" vinyl coated wire from the top (nicro press a small loop with thimble) to 3' above the end of the boom. Another nicro pressed loop w/thimble.Hang a block a small block from that then, make a 2:1 block and tackle, a cheek block on the side of the end of the boom to run the line to a cleat somewhere forward, on the boom that is convenient. The line starts tied to one side of the end of the boom, then goes up to the hanging block, then down to the cheek block . that way it isn't twisting the boom. It's kinda dumb the way it is there is twice the line going up and down and no mechanical advantage ( not really needed anyway, light boom) do this once, lasts FOREVER

I'm following the adventure... pretty cool! The new boat ( a Cape Dory 30? ) is in pretty good shape.. One question, the sail marks show G 28?... I assume a set of sails from another boat?... just curious.
I’ve found it annoying to have long hair while sailing. Once it came untied while i was fixing a fouled jib in a strong breeze and I couldn’t see anything so i cut it off for the next trip. Maybe ill try again sometime.
Jerry Smith less mechanisms between you and the rudder. Give you a much more responsive feel. You can see the rudder position easily. Less parts and things to break and maintain. Easier and cheaper to set up self steering. Folds out of the way when at anchor. The cons are it doesn’t look as good in photos and you don’t get a nice binnacle for a compass, handles and cupholders.
