    My whisker pole stores on a 1.25” t-track on the mast as well. You’re going to love the ease and safety of deploying it. Adding some jam cleats on the mast for your topping lift gives another level of security/safety.
    FWIW - If you didn’t fuse the positive cables for your chargers, you need to so you avoid risk of a fire. Look up the max amperage for each positive cable and size above the max total amps for the devices charging and below the rating of the cable. Great video, keep up the good work.

    I can see the joy you have after each project. Freeing up the side decks will give you more mobility around the boat. Looking forward to more of your projects!

      I like to have free side decks. Thats why I don't clutter them up with bikes, kayaks and surfboards.

    I would put a 2.5 or 5 amp inline fuse for the 12 volt lines.

  • @SoundzAlive1

    Hi Sam, The tick from your motor is fine it sounds loud on the video as the frequency response is enhanced in the speaking range causing the tie to sound louder than it does in real life. All diesels in boats tik and sound loud normally compared to gasoline engines and modern Mercedes diesels. Having said that you could check the vales again but turn the motor slightly one way then the other to see if the gap gets smallerr both ways then you know your on top dead centre.
    There is usually a fuse in the cigarette adapter so best to add one if they did not have one. André

      Something to grab but something to bash your head on too... 🤕 So removable is nice. Like joists what's behind where you are drilling?
      Epoxy/ Molly bolt like it in? Marine screws? Or later corrosion problems?
      Fishing pole/shotgun, other possible things there too (whip antenna)...

    Sam you should use backing plates where you're life lines and the boat hook are mounted and do away with those self tapping screws . Right when you really need those they will pull out causing you injury or death . You may try talking to someone salty for guidance and never listen to other newbies . Have fun dude and stay safe 🤗👍👍🇺🇸

    Yanmar diesel is known for their "clickytyclack" ticking noise. They have higher compression than other diesels and that is also why they don't have preheating. They start on the high compression alone. Downside is they are a bit more noisy.

    A diesel engine usually has a sound to it that many might take as a "tick".

  • @b5a5m5
    @b5a5m5 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    8:55 When you stick in those "adapters" you should apply a bit of dielectric grease to goop everything up with a protective layer and make it extremely resilient to corrosion. Be aware this wouldn't be good with connectors you regularly plug/unplug though since the goop will accumulate dust/dirt/debris that will clog up and be abrasive to your connectors.

    the click experienced when adjusting the valves while rotating the engine over is likely produced by the mechanical injection system, likely related to injection timing.

  • @AirborneTrojan
    @AirborneTrojan 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Sam, your valve adjustment is similar to a vw air cooled 1600. Check out those valve adjustment videos. If the engine starts sounding like a typewriter (go look up the sound :( ), then you need a valve adjustment

    1:02 scotch brite works, but if you ever need to remove a rough metal surface emery cloth is magical also. Say after a rough cut or need to smooth out a surface. A roll from lowes is not expensive.

    Ya know if those valves are good spec... Clean the lash adjusters, they get gunked up with coke and all you need is to depress them in a container of diesel with something like a paper clip and you'll see the gunk come out.

    Sam, that cooler you installed, can it keep stuff frozen reliability? How many amp does it use on 12 volt? I've got a Engel 40l on my boat now which is fine at the dock. I had 300 watts of solar running it at a cabin and it worked fine as a freezer with a 300 amo hour lead acid battery bank. Here on my boat (28 Cape dory like yours) I was going to mount 2 , 100 watt panels, and 200 amp hours lead acid...so I could probably use the Engel as a fridge but I like to freeze food so I d9nt have to go to the store often. The Engel is also taking up a lot of room. I have thought about just building it in ang adding to my galley counter, but its alot of space and juice and everything. Also, what stove are you using and how it is working for you? I am thinking about the non pressurized alcohol (Kenyon, a old one) so it will just drop in the hole that has the pressurized alcohol stove in it now which I won't use as it needs repairs and they are sketchy. Thanks!

    On my solar powered electricity supply, everything is solar powered EXCEPT my geyser and the airconditionair as these draw too much power for the battery storage to cope with. My electric oven and hob were replaced by gas powered appliances since these normally draw far too much power from the batteries that the solar panels charge. I know of others in Mtunzini who installed about 3 times as many panels just so they could run the A/C, geyser and cooking utility when the Eskom supply is off - a reason that I want solar to start with! I have uninterrupted power 24/7. They howecer can afford to generate the power needed, and are not on pension!

      Its a bit of a hassle to set up. Adds an extra step of paring and setup. I also don’t like that i have to use the filmic pro app to film instead of the iPhone native camera app. The audio seems fine. I lost my windcover though which was the whole reason i got it. $20 for that little thing 😧

      @@samholmessailingThat is some serious distance to get there, and back south for the winter! Stop in Noank/Mystic, CT, and Block Island and Newport, RI.
