I just realized that I used the "Original Thursdays" logo instead of the "Old Timey Tuesdays" logo! 🙂That's what I get for being so last minute with this upload! Hopefully, everyone will know that I'm not claiming to have written this very old song!
We understand. Life gets hectic around the holidays. Paul, I love your videos and your singing. My brother played guitar in the style of Chet Atkins and Doyle Dykes. He was very good (i’m not just saying that because I’m biased) and played with several bands around Morganton, N.C., Asheville and Connelly Springs area where he lived. Although I love music and play a little piano (by ear) I never learned music theory. I remember my brother using a clamp on his guitar and he called it a kapo ( not sure of spelling). Maybe an idea for a future video for you would be an explanation of music terms I guess a little music theory? Definitely feature Granny in more videos. She is so sweet and sings so beautifully.
Beautiful, as always, Paul. After hearing your words about the two different backstories, I listened to the song a few times. The song being a lament from a coal miner who couldn't afford to give his children and wife the needed things fit better in my mind. However, after checking online about the original song, The Lass of Roch Royal/Lord Gregory, I can see how this ballad and its backstory also fit. Either way, it's sad and beautiful! Blessings to all!
my friend Mike Evans passed last night, my cousin Doyle Chester passed away yesterday, God comfort the families, maybe after a while I can watch the rest of your video , God bless you and your family
That was a beautiful song,Paul! 😊 You sang and played it so beautifully. 💕 I can't wait to see what song that you will sing and play next. Thanks for sharing. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving with all your lovely family. Sending blessings to you and all your family. 💗🙏
What a beautiful but sad song. I Loved it, can't recall hearing it before. Thank you, Paul. ❤😊 Hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving at Tipper's. Send Granny a hug from me.
"A capodastro, also known as a capo, is a device that 'clamps' onto the neck of a stringed instrument to raise the pitch of the strings. It's a common tool for guitarists, but can also be used on mandolins, banjos, ukuleles, and bouzoukis." So clamp isn't wrong and capo is only an abbreviation. I'm with Pap!
Oh my, that is a sad story. I hope it’s not true. Either way you performed it well and as the English would say, “that was lovely”. Thanks for sharing it with us. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Paul we have enjoyed the Doyle Dykes, work you guys put together It's a blessing for you good people to preserve this valuable song catalog. LOVE AND PRAYERS per G. JUSTICE Oldfirekeeper
Paul that must be a old song my grand dad sang that as he milked little Guernsey cow. He cobbled baby shoes as well. Thank you for precious memories! Love to the folks in Brass town. G.Justice over the mountain .
We used to use a yellow wooden pencil and a piece of cotton string as a clamp. It takes a little time to get set up but it works as well as anything you can find on the market. You need a pencil that will bend to fit the radius of the fretboard but most of them will do that. The hexagonal ones are a little better than the round ones. That is high technology from back in the 60s. PS: The pencil don't have to be yellow. Any color will work!
Paul a great song for you would be “Rest My Weary Feet” by Becky Buller. A story about a mountain mailman who walk the hills and hollers to carry the mail.
capo (/ˈkeɪpoʊˌ kæh-ˌ kɑːh-/ KAY-poh, KAH-; short for capodastro, capo tasto or capotasto [ˌkapoˈtasto], Italian for "head of fretboard") is a device a musician uses on the neck of a
I have a Shubb capo. It doesn't fit my needs very well. It doesn't capture all the strings like it should and the radius of the piece that is supposed to fit the back of of the neck doesn't. Maybe the neck of my guitar isn't right but it's a $2000 dollar Breedlove and feels good in my hands. $2000 might not seem a lot to pay for a guitar but no better than I can play it's a lot. I use a capo every time I try to play. I just can't reach all the way to the nut and hold my arm for any length of time. I usually put the capo on behind the 5th or 6th fret which closes up my elbow enough for me to play longer. My comparatively cheap guitar makes true notes and chords wherever I put it, according to my Korg DM-60. So, the Shubb stays in the drawer and my cheap old gold metallic Kyser stays handy. I guess that ain't what you wanted to hear but it is the truth.
No worries, Papaw. Different things work for different people. I hate to hear that about your arm. Ever thought about mandolin or dobro, just to have your arm in a lower position?
Very cool, Joe! Thanks for sharing that. I've never heard that term before! I just Googled it, and apparently it's Italian for "head of the fretboard." That makes sense because a capo effectively moves the head or lower end of the fretboard to a different position...
Dear Paul, That was so kind of Doyle to send those gifts to you and baby Woodrow and Ira. Although there was a huge tragedy behind the song, you sang it perfectly and it was still a soothing song to listen to God bless you, Paul, and Happy Thanksgiving!! Ps. I used to play my Uncle Paul’s guitar. He gave me ironically he had the same name as you and you have now inspired me to start to play again and I’m going to be buying a new guitar or rather used new guitar. Thank you for bringing music back into my life on a regular basis.🫶🤎🍁🦃music is a medium that can take you back to both happy and unhappy times.

Mighty fine young feller!
I like my shub capo better than any I have used
Beautiful! I thought you were preparing to shoot a shotgun in your thumbnail image 😀
Sorry about that! TH-cam randomly selects a thumbnail for each video, and I didn't have anything better to replace it with. :-)

Morning, Paul.
I personally think the cradle style capos are better for your instrument, but shubb is a pretty good choice!
