4 years ago I bought SteelSeries Arctis 7, the quality is really good, in the meantime I replaced the earphone cushions with faux leather ones. I also bought a belt because it had stretched too much, but I haven't replaced it yet, I just cut off what was hanging down. The batteries are 4 years old and last all day, and I use them several hours a day. The only problem is if someone has a rather large head like me, it is very tight and sometimes my head starts to hurt. For me personally, I wouldn’t upgrade mine at the moment, because I have the Arctis 7X+, and I got it like 3-4 months before the Nova 7x came out. I kinda regret buying it because the Novas have Bluetooth and I would’ve loved to have that. Also the 7X+ is $170 and I would’ve had no issue paying 10$ more for a technically better headset. I will probably get the Novas later, but not at the moment.
I upgraded from the arctic 7x to the Nova 7x recently and am glad I did. The sound profile is that bit better and they’re even more comfortable. My only complaint (with both sets) is occasionally with really big boomy loud sounds they get quite distorted. Until Dawn is the worst for this. Anyone else found that with them, or a solution?
I wouldn’t mess with the dynamic sound option unless you know what you’re doing. I think these headphones are better than what the software can provide tbh. The mic needs to be dialed back I think (haven’t used them yet) but on PS5 (even with the 7P) you can’t use sonar unfortunately. I think the smiley profile is a decent start but I would increase the bass a bit. You can still hear footsteps and get a fuller sound profile, plus I think COD nerfed the stage distances awhile back
Yes you should, the old arctis distorted when you tried to boost the bass, also the sound was flat and boring. The new refresh fixed everything, like you said you can finally bring bass out of these cans
Great video. Where you plug in your charger on the 9s are going to strip out way sooner. The oval on the novas will last a lot longer. Because when you can't charge them they're useless. Or grab the pros then you don't have to worry about it. IMO.
Couldn’t help myself last Saturday I got the nova pro wireless and they are amazing ofc the ear pads and what people say them are true they do start to hurt your ears over long periods of time but wicked cushions just does an amazing job at making ear pads that will solve my problem. I have recommend my friend the nova 7x as they are on sale right now and they are just what he needs as the nova steel series have really done a good job I used to have artic 5’s so going to a nova pro wireless was a big jump for me and has the artic 5’s as well.
Got the Penrose last weak. Forget about the steelseries. Even though i love steelserie. But Penrose is on another level. The penrose will introduce you to another level of audio
The nova 7x will arrive at my door today and I'm looking forward to it even more after this video. I'll be sending the JBL Quantum 810 back after trying them for a week. They make a lot of popping/creaking noises when the earcups twist slightly when I move my head around, even just a tiny bit. I thought they just needed broken-in and would stop this after a few days, but nope. These are frame noises (not electronic sound noises) that happen rather the headset is turned on or off, at the hinge that allows the earcups to swivel. When it does the pops while turned on, it actually goes through the mic and my discord chat hears them all lol. Very silly and annoying issue with this particular JBL headset.
@@miguelalbarran505 sound is good when I added a little more bass and picked the right preset in the Sonar software. However, I've tried two nova 7x, and both of them have a lot of sound interference issues. Especially, if I use my phone while using the headset. Which is funny because they market the Bluetooth feature for mobile use while simultaneously connected to PC/console via Wi-Fi. The JBL never had sound interference or cut outs playing on PC and using mobile Bluetooth at the same time, but it was too tight for my big head.
I love my maxwells for everything not gonna lie. I can't even say you aren't being biased due to the turtles being new and being excited. But I respect your reviews and point of view. In my opinion, you can use the maxwells for gaming, work and music and they are going to be amazing in everything, noise suppression on the mic has done wonders in my meetings due to my neighbors construction, sound is super immersive, and footsteps aren't as good as described here, I bet it would be better on turtles, even without measuring. However, the features on the turtle can definitely outperform the maxwells
I've got steelseries 7p they are great suits me as a story game focused player however I just picked up the turtle beach 700 Gen 2 max which are awesome also have type c changing which is a lot more convenient
Does your tb 700 gen2 max have audio distortion? I have one and the audio get distorted/choppy. It usually happens when there is like background music and your character is talking/fighting.
After trying multiple Headsets from Steelseries i finally found what i was looking for in the Nova 7X. The sounds is much much harder on the 7X, and like all of them very comfortable After playing with the EQ im very happy. Only wish they make that easier like on the Turtle Beaches with an Android App
those cozy WC look sharp very nice, once i find out if the nova p work with the psvr 2 ill get the headphones and the cozy WC, i took your recommendations for my audeze penrose and I love the WC.
I had a pair of Siberia v1 Black headphones. They still work, but are old as hell and the leather cuffs are peeling. My wife got me a pair of wired Steelseries Arctis 5 a couple years ago, but I'm looking to upgrade to the 7x Wireless or the Pro. Can't decide. Mostly leaning to the Nova 7x, because I mostly PC/Nintendo Switch game and the hub I think would just be a glorified paperweight to me.
Hey Techne! First of all, thank you for the great video. Where would you rank the newer Arctis 7X+? Is it an upgrade in terms of sound/mic to the old 7X? And how does it stack up against the Nova 7X?
Great video, as always! I just purchased the arctis 5x and thought I should upgrade to the audeze maxwell. Is there a real significance in sound quality between the two?
used headsets of 2019 and newer other than novas, go for like 100$ and lower on used markets, some are in great shape, all you can do is swap cushions for like 10$
I jumped into audiophile territory this year and picked up a pair of Sennheiser hd599se headphones paired with EPOS | Sennheiser GSX 1000 amp. Also got an Elgato mic and I will never go back to traditional gaming headsets lol.
I have the tb 700 gen 2 max and think it has a good sound quality but it has audio issue. Not a connection problem but more of distortion when you’re playing and it gets annoying.
I bought the 9x for Blackfriday because they were cheaper than the nova 7s. the 9x of course doesn't come with a dongle but I only remembered that you mentioned that Xbox is the version to buy... And of course the usb dongle (wireless adapter for windows 10) isn't available at the moment. The lag due to bluetooth on the 9x is slightly noticeable on my pc and I regret not picking up the novus 7. I primarily bought it for the bluetooth connectivity to my phone so that I had a subtle headset for phone and music usage outside of the house... So it works well for my phone but I smend most of my free time on PC. Phone calls are ok, you warned us about the mic quality and i can accept it. But the pc game lag... that hurt. And my 9x, like the A7s are micro usb charging :( At least I can always get wicked cushions
I have just picked up a pair of the Nova 7x and I love them. I see you can buy the wireless transmitter from the Steelseries website seperatly. Does that mean I can have one receiever at my home machine and one on my work machine and the headset will work seemlessly after pairing? or would I have to re-pair each time I move between home and work?
so when it comes to playstation, there is basically the Nova 7 and the pulse 3D sony official. I like these better. they do sometimes have some little glitch connections issues, but literally like 1% of the time. great connectivity. also you can't turn the headphones off and the audio comes back to your TV automatically like the pulse 3D. otherwise way better. I'm bald so the pulse 3d rubber band isn't as comfy. this headband style is very comfy. very loud. i love the voice chat mix so you can hear yourself talking. just as good 3D audio as the pulse. amazingly good battery life. had them like 2 months and maybe had to charge like 1 time so far. mic is easy to use. I keep my mic off so i don't bother other players, and then turn it on as needed, and its very easy to do so using this headset. nice small design so it doesn't look like you have a huge headset on either. love them. if you have a ps5, this is the pair to get.
I'm looking for a great gaming headset for the xbox. Steelseries is definitely set. Now I've seen some of your videos and I'm hesitating between the Nova 7X and 9X. Which would you prefer? 🤔
Been using 9x for my Xbox n 9 for my PC...luv both...only reason I have both because 9x audio on PC wasn't good...but perfect on Xbox...n 9 are a beast on pc
Picked up the Nova 7 last week at the same time buying the 7+ on amazon while they were $99. Those should come in next week. Hopefully I can make a quick decision if the Nova's are "worth $80" more. What's your thoughts? PC Only. Call of Duty and a little bit of world of warcraft.
Is it worth the 80 Buck 🤔I’m stuck rn don’t know which one to pick I have regular 7 and honestly I’m just tired of the usb-micro Shits annoying. Now there 60 bucks difference but I’m still stuck 😂
Great reviews greetings from Sweden! I bought the Nova 7x and I am really happy with these only thing I can't get my steelseries engine to recognise the headset even tried uninstalling the engine and reinstalling it? I understand the Novas have a new firmware but what am I missing if I can't update?
Had to return the Nova 7x. Earpads are a little on the small side and would become uncomfortable for me. I tried putting Wicked Cusions on, but was still not very comfortable.
hey Techne, i'm thinking of upgrading from the HyperX Cloud Flight S, are the Novas that much of an upgrade sound wise? I'm mainly looking at it for the bluetooth feature.
I'm looking for this. my priorities is comfort, bluetooth, and sound quality i mostly wanna use this for my online classes for 8 to 10 hrs a day, my current headphones' ear cushions are of leather and they heat so much i get pimples around my temples. are these ear cushions good for long sessions? because i see they aren't made from leather...
Revisiting this video, I got the nova 7 about 2 months ago and my cousin is getting the 7+ today. Only thing about nova 7 is it feels like it doesn’t close all the way on the left ear cup like I got a gap I can fit my finger in from the bottom
HELP! just got my nova 7x's. upgraded from the $100 xbox Microsoft headset that simply fell apart over 2 years. I like the Novas, but my chatpad keyboard doesn't work with them. also, I have to manually turn on and off the Bluetooth to my phone. any help with my problems would be greatly appreciated!
Just looking at both these sets at the moment so this is stinkin' useful! I have read the Novas are all round slightly smaller, is that right? Do they have the same internal ear cup size for example? :)
i had the old SteelSeries arctis 7 and to me they were really great but decided to change em cuz they were getting really old lol i received SteelSeries nova 5 as xmas gift but I'm wondering if it was an upgrade or down grade really since the sound when listening to music felt very good but on these new ones hmm im unsure
Which one would you recommend for like full competitive games like I wanna be able to hear my enemy breathing on my left, right up and down all directions you know?
i have the Arctis 7X and nova wired. Nova wireds with Dac are killer. bass that's so deep n punchy. The wire is too much for my sim racing rig and the 7X just don't have that punch. I really think I'm gonna pull trigger on the Nova 7X now...thanks so much for the effort n time...your one of my favorite headphone reviewers out bud...appreciate you
You moved again? Or do I remember correctly? :D I would like to up my audio game from Turtle Beach Stealth 700 Gen 2. I love the features, strong sidetone, simultaneous bluetooth functionality and great microphone. Turtle beach signature sound is great, not amazing but way better than Razer Blackshark V2 pro or Sony's Pulse 3D. I game on PS5 and PC. I don't care about active noise cancellation. I need to hear my wife at home. I play on desk setup. Wireless or wired. :) What would you recommend as an upgrade? Arctis Nova Pro wired (lacking bluetooth is a downer but I love that you can plug it to two devices at once without changing dongles) and Audeze penrose have caught my attention. Is the sound upgrade with these two headsets worth it or do you recommend something else? :)

should i purchase the arctis 9 now with similar function with nova 7x but about $40 cheaper than it
Got the console 3s and straight up love em
I like your old red and white techne cog shirt please remake it
Have the nova 7x wireless they are the best headphones out there !! And using the DOLBY on Xbox it’s even better !!
Tweak that eq a pinch
@@TheTechne I’ve tried but not found the magic settings yet!
You can still hear footsteps and get a fuller sound profile, plus I think COD nerfed the stage distances awhile back
which one is better for the ps5 and do both of them work well with the psvr2@@TheTechne
Yes you should, the old arctis distorted when you tried to boost the bass, also the sound was flat and boring. The new refresh fixed everything, like you said you can finally bring bass out of these cans
I enjoy your videos, good energy. You freak me the fuck out every time you stretch out a headset though 🤣
For what I need I have the arctis 7p+ they do just fine , I like them
i got my arctis pro for 100$ on black friday and it arrived on tuesday, best investment i’ve made in a while
I bought the 7P + for a very good deal. They're way more comfortable then the 3D PULSE
Got the Penrose last weak. Forget about the steelseries. Even though i love steelserie. But Penrose is on another level. The penrose will introduce you to another level of audio
Just got myself the steelseries arctis 1 wireless just waiting to get them thanks for the video about them
Great review as usual Techne 🎧
So how’s the sound a big difference of steel series arctis 7x?
@@miguelalbarran505 sound is good when I added a little more bass and picked the right preset in the Sonar software. However, I've tried two nova 7x, and both of them have a lot of sound interference issues. Especially, if I use my phone while using the headset. Which is funny because they market the Bluetooth feature for mobile use while simultaneously connected to PC/console via Wi-Fi. The JBL never had sound interference or cut outs playing on PC and using mobile Bluetooth at the same time, but it was too tight for my big head.
@@kpatt2006 thanks man I just order the nova 7x picking them up Monday hopefully they won’t disappoint me!!
@rguzman805 no so far so good just a bit tight is all
After trying multiple Headsets from Steelseries i finally found what i was looking for in the Nova 7X.
The sounds is much much harder on the 7X, and like all of them very comfortable
After playing with the EQ im very happy.
Only wish they make that easier like on the Turtle Beaches with an Android App
What’s your EQ?
Just got a like new nova pro wireless for 202 after taxes. Am so happy
those cozy WC look sharp very nice, once i find out if the nova p work with the psvr 2 ill get the headphones and the cozy WC, i took your recommendations for my audeze penrose and I love the WC.
love your channel dude keep it up
I had a pair of Siberia v1 Black headphones. They still work, but are old as hell and the leather cuffs are peeling. My wife got me a pair of wired Steelseries Arctis 5 a couple years ago, but I'm looking to upgrade to the 7x Wireless or the Pro. Can't decide. Mostly leaning to the Nova 7x, because I mostly PC/Nintendo Switch game and the hub I think would just be a glorified paperweight to me.
i have those 7's but mine didn't come with a USB C dongle. it came with a USB cable with a hockey puck as the receiver.
Hey Techne! First of all, thank you for the great video. Where would you rank the newer Arctis 7X+? Is it an upgrade in terms of sound/mic to the old 7X? And how does it stack up against the Nova 7X?
Between these 2 for a person strictly using them for Xbox and mostly focused on sound alone which sounds better
Just ordered the nova 7 to replace my old arctis 5 i'm sure i won't regret it
Great video, as always! I just purchased the arctis 5x and thought I should upgrade to the audeze maxwell. Is there a real significance in sound quality between the two?
I have both the 9x and Nova 7x. Love the Novas but, getting the Mic when it's hidden sometimes it's a pain for me.
Which do you like better between the two
@e.jc.8853 both sound very similar. However, Novas are lighter more comfortable.
used headsets of 2019 and newer other than novas, go for like 100$ and lower on used markets, some are in great shape, all you can do is swap cushions for like 10$
Hey, what EQ settings do you recommend on Steelseries arctis 7 wireless? Thanks
I jumped into audiophile territory this year and picked up a pair of Sennheiser hd599se headphones paired with EPOS | Sennheiser GSX 1000 amp. Also got an Elgato mic and I will never go back to traditional gaming headsets lol.
Always need a nice wireless gaming headset on the side
@@TheTechne yeah
Whats a better sounding headset, the Astro A50s or the Turtle Beach 700 gen2 max? Id like to see a comparison between them
I have the tb 700 gen 2 max and think it has a good sound quality but it has audio issue. Not a connection problem but more of distortion when you’re playing and it gets annoying.
Had the charging port in my Arctis 7s literally just go dead... think I'll try the Nova. And it's cheaper!!
Good question
so when it comes to playstation, there is basically the Nova 7 and the pulse 3D sony official.
Hej! I really love your content. I got a question. which one is best for xbox arctis 9x vs arctis nova 7x? 😊
I'm looking for a great gaming headset for the xbox. Steelseries is definitely set. Now I've seen some of your videos and I'm hesitating between the Nova 7X and 9X. Which would you prefer? 🤔
I have the 9x for my series X. Would the new 7 nova be an upgrade?
Been using 9x for my Xbox n 9 for my PC...luv both...only reason I have both because 9x audio on PC wasn't good...but perfect on Xbox...n 9 are a beast on pc
Piss poor swivel connection over time. Snap clean through the plastic shroud off the ear. So be careful if you have a big head
Do you have any suggestion about headset stands that might as well make the charging process as easy as it gets?
I know this is almost a year old but the 9x are at best buy for 99$
Arctis Nova 7/X/P vs Arctis 9/x
Since they both have Bluetooth, which would be the better option?
When will you be reviewing the new Audeze Maxwell set?
Recommendation…do the 7x and 9x sound better than turtle beach stealth 500s?
sent mine back was terrible gone back to turtle beach found the sound and base and dolby so much better
Hey great video. I was wondering what’s ur EQ settings for the novas in COD and Warzone 2
Nothing seems to state the bit depth and bitrate achievable thru the dongle or bluetooth connection or wired. how high can this go ? 24bit 192Khz?
Picked up the Nova 7 last week at the same time buying the 7+ on amazon while they were $99. Those should come in next week. Hopefully I can make a quick decision if the Nova's are "worth $80" more. What's your thoughts? PC Only. Call of Duty and a little bit of world of warcraft.
Is it worth the 80 Buck 🤔I’m stuck rn don’t know which one to pick I have regular 7 and honestly I’m just tired of the usb-micro Shits annoying. Now there 60 bucks difference but I’m still stuck 😂
Are you able to set your eq settings on a laptop then use them on Xbox? Or can you only use sonar on pc?
Great reviews greetings from Sweden!
I bought the Nova 7x and I am really happy with these only thing I can't get my steelseries engine to recognise the headset even tried uninstalling the engine and reinstalling it? I understand the Novas have a new firmware but what am I missing if I can't update?
Had to return the Nova 7x. Earpads are a little on the small side and would become uncomfortable for me. I tried putting Wicked Cusions on, but was still not very comfortable.
Only one other review out there covering this, and they weren’t clear whatsoever.
hey Techne, i'm thinking of upgrading from the HyperX Cloud Flight S, are the Novas that much of an upgrade sound wise? I'm mainly looking at it for the bluetooth feature.
I'm looking for this.
my priorities is comfort, bluetooth, and sound quality
i mostly wanna use this for my online classes for 8 to 10 hrs a day, my current headphones' ear cushions are of leather and they heat so much i get pimples around my temples. are these ear cushions good for long sessions? because i see they aren't made from leather...
Any EQ recommendations for story based games like GOW, Elden Ring, etc. for the Nova 7Ps?
try some of these th-cam.com/video/kKMOBW7ji9s/w-d-xo.html
Revisiting this video, I got the nova 7 about 2 months ago and my cousin is getting the 7+ today. Only thing about nova 7 is it feels like it doesn’t close all the way on the left ear cup like I got a gap I can fit my finger in from the bottom
It's really important to point out here that all that Sonar settings you do on a PC is pointless if you're playing on any console.
HELP! just got my nova 7x's. upgraded from the $100 xbox Microsoft headset that simply fell apart over 2 years. I like the Novas, but my chatpad keyboard doesn't work with them. also, I have to manually turn on and off the Bluetooth to my phone. any help with my problems would be greatly appreciated!
Why are the 9x cheaper than the 7+? I really thought the 9 was the higher end of the Arctis series
Just looking at both these sets at the moment so this is stinkin' useful! I have read the Novas are all round slightly smaller, is that right? Do they have the same internal ear cup size for example? :)
Is there a SteelSeries headset that could be used both for gaming and work for taking calls?
i had the old SteelSeries arctis 7 and to me they were really great but decided to change em cuz they were getting really old lol
i received SteelSeries nova 5 as xmas gift but I'm wondering if it was an upgrade or down grade really since the sound when listening to music felt very good but on these new ones hmm im unsure
I don't quite understand if there is a difference between the regular Nova 7 and the 7P/7X variants.
I would like to up my audio game from Turtle Beach Stealth 700 Gen 2. :)
What would you recommend as an upgrade? Arctis Nova Pro wired (lacking bluetooth is a downer but I love that you can plug it to two devices at once without changing dongles) and Audeze penrose have caught my attention. Is the sound upgrade with these two headsets worth it or do you recommend something else? :)
Yeah, again lol
Recently my arctis 9x broke apart on me after about 3 years or so. I used them for streaming, and now I'm gonna go for the Nova. My question is, are the Nova's well enough to stream with. Like me speaking into the mic kind of deal
