From 1991-2002 one of Florida's big 3 schools (Miami, UF and FSU) played in the National Championship game every year except once... in 1997, because of this game.

      P.S.
You can count UF/FSU as double in the '97 Sugar Bowl

Yes! Definitely a scene every fan in the state of Florida needs to see. Yes, it's a heated rivalry. Yes, things got intense. Yes, this had national championship implications. However, at the end of the day, it's a game, and players on both teams are human beings, and need to learn to respect each other as fellow humans, as fellow athletes, and even though they are rivals, need to show great displays of sportsmanship like this scene right here. It's a scene the fans all need to see.
I also had this big color picture from 1993 showing Charlie Ward and Danny Wuerffel holding hands in prayer, along with their teammates that I thought was a really great picture everyone needed to see. Even though they are heated rivals, they are all still college athletes, they were able to keep it in perspective and show that both sides can still be together on things much bigger than a football game.

There will never be another rivalry like the 1990's with Spurrier vs Bowden/ UF vs FSU - every game had a direct role in the NC picture and those 2 coaches added so much to it - i was lucky to be a student at UF during this period and I was at the stadium for this game - we lost our minds that night!

Yeti tracker 66 Smith had a much better line than Taylor did when he was with Dallas. Taylor did more damage against FSU and actually beat them, going 3-1-2 against them. Smith lost all the years he played FSU. This was the best performance I ever witnessed by a running back against those great FSU teams. Usually we stuffed the run very well.

Plus you not only went to the best rivalry of the 9Os, you got to see the best game in the swamp ever. What was it like? I have watched Florida play at UK, Tenn, Vandy, and S. Carolina but not the swamp. Its usually considered the toughest place to play in the country. Swamp and LSU Death Valley are almost universally listed first and second.

How many times has a 1, 2x or even 3x defeated SEC team faced off vs an undefeated ACC, Big10, (Big East back then) or one of the Western Conference teams, come in as underdogs, and knocked them off...Like Fred Taylor said at the end their...The competition in the SEC , even way back then, was by far, the toughest in the nation, (Bowl records, and # of players being drafted to the NFL showed this, and continue to show this today) It took the rest of the major sports media 15 years to finally realize just how much better the SEC was, top to bottom than all the other Conferences...FLORIDA's demolition of #1 Ranked and highly favored Ohio State in the 06 BCS National Title Game in Arizona, finally got ESPN and the rest of em to wake up and talk about this...and now, its plenty well established...The best Football in NCAA D1 is played in the SEC...With the SEC having won 11 National Titles from 1992 thru 2015...Bama won it vs a highly favored Miami in 92 (blew them off the field really) and the SEC has won 8 of the last 10 National Titles in NCAA D1 Football...

Spurrier only beat FSU at home at the swamp in Gainesville, never at Doak Campbell Stadium in Tallahassee. Bobby Bowden won several times at the swamp though. Just not this one.

I know man. Once both Florida and Florida State come back again, everybody will fear us again. Nobody wanted to play Florida, Florida State or Miami when they were good.

Speaking of playing Miami, FSU still plays them while the Gators dropped them a long time ago.

I like to think Zook was in that fight and was one of the coaches having to be restrained.

Even though this was the best rivalry in college football for about a decade, there weren't that many actual great games between the two. It wasn't like FSU-Miami which seemed to come down to the final play every year. It seemed like when FSU and Florida played, the two teams never played their best at the same time. Until this game. Except for this game.

really, Fred Taylor was not the problem in that game....UF's Offensive Line, and Spurrier's playcalling with the offense which routinely caught us Gator Fans off Guard with his calls in that game...That was probably the best playcalling and play selection in all of Spurriers time in Florida...

"The Greatest Game Ever Played" for Florida, but not for anyone else. Stupid play calling by FSU down at the goal line going with three straight off-tackle runs when a play-action pass to the tight end would've been an easy TD as the Gators had stacked the box. The point differential would have made it FSU 33 Florida 26 and assuming Florida scores again as quickly as before, it would have been interesting to see if Spurrier would go for two for the win or kick for the tie and let the defense try and get the ball back. Since Spurrier had never forgotten the Choke at Doak (which would get my vote as the Greatest Game Ever Played), he would have kicked for the tie.
Being tied or ahead by a point would've also changed FSU's offensive strategy during the last 90 seconds knowing that SeaBass could knock a FG through from 50+ yards on in to win it.
Now, THAT might have been one of the greatest games ever played.

You're being sarcastic, but it's plausible that Driskel will win the Heisman. Not likely, but plausible. Recently the Heisman winner has be someone that nobody expects in the preseason (Manziel, RGIII, Newton, Ingram, and so on). Also Florida was in both SEC and national championship consideration last season so I'm not sure what you're talking about when you say it will be a while.

I hate when people say this was a massive upset. Consider the following, fumble fsu runs it back for a free td, another fumble leads to fg, Florida blows 3 point after attempts and misses a chip shot 28 yard fg. Florida more or less handed fsu 16 points and STILL won lol. Any time you fuck up that much in opponent that is better than you is going to 100% Beat you
