    Love the way you break it down to an elementary level. I'm new to all of this. My wife wants cable and I don't. AJ and G offers a box called nighthawk.so now I can get no contract Internet and no contract TV. I never had a contract on anything. Or use MetroPCS no contract though and I have use virgin mobile in the past. Thank you

    Excellent analysis. I see traditional cable is what I will have to keep based on ease of finding shows, use of number entry to change channels, and my total dislike of buffering. Thanks again for the time you invested in order to share this information.

      One of the things I do tell people is that if you want to cut the cord, you should have some tolerance for experimentation. I would never recommend this to my parents, for example.

    Hulu only need add Own and VH1 and they will just about equal Direct TV Now and even when you add all the extra, Hulu is a better performing product.

      Hulu with Live TV is a good service. I wish they'd improve their interface; I found that it took me a lot of clicking and drilling down to get to the show I wanted to see, especially if I wasn't watching the latest episode. But it is a good value, and I'm glad that it's working out for you.

    I am currently on my last trial day for TH-cam TV when I saw an ad for DirectTV now.. and thinking about switching.. But now I think I already got exactly what I need.
    My choice is TH-cam TV.

    This is no doubt, the best review of the top 3 services available. After much research, I think I came to the same conclusions. I like the interface of TH-cam better than the rest...they just announced Roku, Apple tv, android tv and Xbox one...soon, I hope, Samsung. I have had a few problems, well many, with Chromecast giving up the ghost. So, I hope Samsung app comes soon. I have noticed, when I setup the service, or want to do any adjustments, that I can do them better on the computer...eliminates all that point and scroll. Great review...I really liked the ending !

    TBS and TNT were just added the other day...you did a great job. I am looking at the youtube tv. What do you mean by there are no apps for you streaming boxes? I am still learning about this stuff. Thx and go Braves!

    • @theksmm
      @theksmm  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not only has TH-cam added TBS and TNT since I made this video, but they now have native apps for Roku and Apple TV devices! This negates my biggest complaint about the service, meaning that you can watch on your TV without having to cast video from your phone/tablet. It's far more convenient and puts it on par with all other services.

    Good Video. Just a quick thought though you should update this especially on the YTTV. They now have Turner channels and also dedicated apps for streaming devices. Been using it on my Apple TV and honestly it’s been great. My only nip pick would be they way they handle recordings. Kind of frustrating you can’t just record a single episode or delete a single episode but the fact that they have unlimited Dvr I can accept it for now.

    • @theksmm
      @theksmm  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, I've been using the TH-cam TV apps for a while and really like it now. I'm planning to do a follow-up video with that new information. Also, I agree about their recordings. It's all or nothing, without a good way to just filter out new episodes or to hide the ones you've already seen. But the unlimited recordings makes it easier to forgive. :-)

    great video. I have a smart tv with a hulu app. would that play the hulu w/ live tv or would I have to get an apple tv or Roku device too?

    • @theksmm
      @theksmm  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      It depends on whether your TV's Hulu app is up-to-date. Some TVs get better updates than others. Some older Roku devices, for example, did NOT get the Hulu with Live TV update. But as far as I'm aware, Roku and Apple TV are very well supported and likely get updates first and longest.

    I just don't know what to do, I know one thing my cable bill started at $140 now its pushing almost $220 and I got rid of two boxes. Even if I pay 70 for internet and 70 for a plan it's still cheaper, the problem, all sports, good dvr and channel loss, the problem of cutting the cord is direct TV still gets my money from dtvn, and dish gets it from sling so y can't I just get that plan from them in the first place withe the dvr capabilities. It's just crazy to me we can't just have something perfect for a fair price can't even get local channels that are free on a antenna on most services. PS good video, liked the review.

    • @theksmm
      @theksmm  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you can find a streaming service that offers the channels and recording levels that you need, I would recommend giving them a try. Most of them offer a trial or cheap discovery period so you can see what you're getting into.

    • @theksmm
      @theksmm  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      In terms of the number of channels they provide for the price, DirecTV Now can't be beat. And if you're already an AT&T cell phone customer, the discounts make it almost a no-brainer. But all their competitors have rolled out DVR service, and they still fall behind TH-cam TV in reliability in my testing. Your mileage may vary.

    Very good video. Hulu doesn't give me enough bang for my buck in terms of channel selections. DirectTv doesn't give me any DVR functionality, I'm so lost. I guess I will go with DirectTV and use hulu on demand, or various...not-so-legit places online.

    • @theksmm
      @theksmm  6 ปีที่แล้ว

    I also tested all 3 of these services and only Directv Now works closest to the way I watch TV. Hulu's new user experience is so poorly designed with a lot of browsing and navigating to find things. TH-cam UI just okay, but too expensive for me.

      These days I'm mostly using TH-cam TV and Hulu, but I downgraded from the Live TV component back to the on-demand only service. Once TH-cam TV got native Roku and Apple TV apps as well as TBS, it became much more useful to me.

      Good choice, and I hope Hulu is able to improve their service. One easy thing they could do is allow you to organize recordings in folders (shows) or sort the list in something other than reverse-chronological order.

    I honestly think TH-cam TV will be big once it really gets going but it hasn't been out for to long so they still need to add some channel's but if your a sport's fan like myself they do have the NFL channel's and all the local channel's so that's good and they also don't buffer I haven't had any buffering issue's with TH-cam TV. I switched from Hulu Live TV to TH-cam TV because Hulu kept buffering on Live TV and when I contacted Hulu about it they just basically said I'd have to wait until they fix the issue's but they never did it just kept on buffering for week's so if you want a service that doesn't buffer I recommend TH-cam TV you might get less channel's with it for now but at least it work's without buffering I'd rather pay for something that work's right! Also TH-cam TV is getting a Roku app and they have Smart TV apps which is good so I definitely recommend TH-cam TV I think they have a bright future.

    • @theksmm
      @theksmm  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      TH-cam TV was the most reliable in my experience. I hope they'll continue to add channels to make it an even better value.

    • @theksmm
      @theksmm  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I tried PlayStation Vue when it first launched and was very unimpressed. Many of the shows I tried to watch were blacked out on certain devices or couldn't be recorded at all. It was a very frustrating experience, so I never went beyond the trial. I suspect (hope) the experience is better now, but it's still one of the more expensive services, so I haven't gone back to it.

    Thanks man ... you helped me alot with that video. Well explained . Im a long time direct tv user and a sports junkie so my bill is like 150 a month and I basically watch espn (all of them) and the 700s when tennis golf etc come on. Also i need tnt for the nba playoffs and i dont watch any live.(commercials kill me) So in saying that im researching how to watch stream sports and a few other things with dvr and good pic. So...........im leaning towards youtube tv. bummed they dont have tnt. i bet they will eventually huh?

    Hbo for $5 per month! Is that just hbo, or do you get all the hbo's (2, comedy, family, etc)?
    Why would you need dvr if all the shows are on there in the watchlist after they air? I guess, other than recording sports.

    • @theksmm
      @theksmm  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      In my lineup, I see HBO East, HBO Family, and HBO Latino. And all shows don't appear in the watchlist. CBS is notoriously stingy with their shows, for example, and try to get you to sign up for their All Access service.
