    There was also a longer front 6-lug center cap that came on the mid-70’s 4x4 trucks that had “full time 4wd”. No lockout.

    I have those Center caps with the hidden fasteners on the back. Gold Chevy emblems, 7 inch wheels. I read somewhere that they were installed on 70s vans. Gonna mount them on my 71 short bet stepside C10.

      @ItsTheChad Fair enough. All I know there is a difference, and there's beauty rings I do like, and ones I don't. Lug covers I have no clue, but want to get the correct ones if I decide to run them instead of chrome lugs. You've been a great help, Chad. Much appreciated 👍

    I have those exact center caps. They came factory on a 1977 Chevy C-10 my dad bought brand new. They are 15x7 and I still have the wheels, center caps and rings.

    I just redid a set of centre caps and used good body shop thinner, the kind that gets u high, and sat the cap in it for 5/10 mins and the argent paint peeled off. Also I found that usinga heat gun on the logo decal makes em peel off easier as well as heating the old glue residue before scraping it off. Lastly using the heat gun I heated up the centre cap surface before installed the new decal. Just found your channel and love yor 67-72 C10 videos.

    • @ItsTheChad71
      @ItsTheChad71  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I like the heat gun idea! I will try that in the future as well. I am working on cleaning black paint off a set now. What a pain! I’m glad you found the channel! I sure like these old trucks and the stories that come with them.

    Someone had paint my center caps the base black along with the foil Chevy logo black. Took some goof off graffiti remover. The paint bubbles up almost immediately and got through the silver. Chrome looks really great underneath. Now they’re all chrome gonna look sweet back on the truck

    • @ItsTheChad71
      @ItsTheChad71  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Awesome! Good to know that worked for you. I have a similar set painted black. I used carb cleaner and #00 steel wool on one so far. It worked but, but was slow going. I will give your way a try. Thanks for sharing!

    Good video chad. I have a few sets of the 5 lug caps that bolt on from the rear and they were from an early van. I also have some 6 lug rally wheels that are 15 x 7 and work great for the front of the 67-70 to keep the track width similar and not have the front wheel drive look. The 7's are rare and hard to come by, but are out there.
    The 5 lug also came in 7,6.5 and 6" for the front for a staggered look.

    • @ItsTheChad71
      @ItsTheChad71  ปีที่แล้ว

    What about the 1979 knock off style center cap? The best looking cap ever in my opinion, at least I was told they were factory on the 79 I had.

    • @ItsTheChad71
      @ItsTheChad71  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I’m not familiar with a 79 cap. If you’ve got a pic of one, could you send it to me via email or FB? Thanks!

  • @sportriderseattle

    BTW, the 6 lug was not solely exclusive to the 4x4. I had a 1969 GMC 1500 Sierra Grande Custom 4X2, back in 1983 that had 6 lug. I would predict it came that way due to the heavy 1/2 ton option it came with. It rode like a 3/4 or 1-ton. I wish I had a picture of the SPI tag in the glove box.

    • @ItsTheChad71
      @ItsTheChad71  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Good info! I remember those heavy half’s. They got to bypass some emission regulations that way.

    Is there any way to cut the top off of the center caps cuz I have 6 lug center caps for my 4x4 but they don’t have the 2 with out the top. All 4 are covered

    • @ItsTheChad71
      @ItsTheChad71  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You can cut the centers out if you want. Drill some small pilot holes and jigsaw w metal blade, oscillating saw or Dremel. If not you might see if someone might trade you for a pair of open caps.

    I have one of the rally wheels as the spare on my 93 GMC van; the other 4 are a different style, so I guess they used NOS rallies if they had them?

    • @ItsTheChad71

    They have to be 4x4 15in rims ? . I got a 6 lug 16 in set, but have to cut the center out to a 4 in bore. For my 67 c10 2wd

    • @ItsTheChad71
      @ItsTheChad71  ปีที่แล้ว

      Are they the newer style from the 88-98 trucks? I don’t remember 16” in this style. The 15” 4x4 rallies in this style are the only ones that will fit the 67-70s. I hope that makes sense. If not feel free to ask more questions.

    I found some 88-98 chevy plastic center caps at a salvage yard for cheap. Would I be able to use steel wool to polish them ? they have a fair amount of scratches/pitting on them.

    • @ItsTheChad71
      @ItsTheChad71  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      You can try some wheel polish or wax but I wouldn’t use anything too aggressive because it’s more of a sticker than chrome.

    Where can I find decent lug nut covers? The aftermarket ones don't thread onto the threaded lug nuts very good

    • @ItsTheChad71
      @ItsTheChad71  ปีที่แล้ว

      I just usually just buy the generic metal lug nuts from the part store. I buy replacement thread cutter bolts for the center caps at the hardware store.

  • @Las_Oem
    @Las_Oem ปีที่แล้ว +1

    How can you thread the wheels ? I recently bought some hubcaps for my wheels but on one of the wheels none of the bolt seem to go into the wheel.

    • @ItsTheChad71
      @ItsTheChad71  ปีที่แล้ว

      I have run into the same issue when I buy new replacement center caps that come with new screws. When I run them in they strip. If you have any of the original bolts that have a cut in the threads at the tip, run them in as a tap. Those are thread cutting bolts and work great.
