@@allisonsparkle4155 That's always the case. The Avatar always has some issues that specific to his time that he or she can't solve. The next avatar inherits that burden, will solve a lot of them but also make own mistakes that will get passed on to the next Avatar.

@@peterhale4525 In the novels, she is really a softie. Others might see that she's brutal, but she hates violence. Killing is her last option if the latter really deserves it. She has low-esteem and she's shy actually. She's like Korra in a way.

Initially I had a problem with that, too, but maybe she didn’t act on it because it was earth kingdom affairs that didn’t necessarily disrupt the balance of the entire world. We see that Roku threatened the fire lord because he was trying to invade other nations and that Kuvira was challenged because she was trying to take over the United Nations land that was once considered Earth Kingdom territory.

Well kyoshi need to master the other element just like aang so maybe she is training just like how aang defeat ozai during the comet
I love how Chin fell off a cliff like Willie Coyote. All he needs was to hold up a sign before he fell and then fall.
When you first see Kyoshi create the island, you think it was a mistake that her eyes weren’t glowing the entire time. Then you read the books, and realized she only needed the knowledge in that brief flash. Kyoshi had no problem bending huge hunks of earth with her own power.

Bumi is one of the best earth benders we see in the show but pure strength wise nobody is a match for Kyoshi. She literally bended the seafloor and caused a huge earthquake at the age of 16, something even the best earth bender of her time wasn't able to do.

I don't think so. Kyoshi was a terrible earth bender with zero precision and control until she got her fans. All she could do was yeet big stones. She wasn't talented at all, especially compared to truly talented earth benders like Toph or Yun.
If there is a Kyoshi animated show coming out, I totally want Jennifer Hale to reprise her role. She makes Kyoshi sound so powerful.

@@jonadol I just finished both audiobooks. Young Kyoshi is very different than the larger-than-life legend she becomes over two centuries later. I think Nancy Wu did a fantastic job of representing this younger, softer version of Kyoshi.

The crazy thing is that Kiyoshi never stays in her Avatar form with the glow in her eyes like other Avatars do. She just enters and comes out of the Avatar state and yeet everyone around her. This is actually the best use of Avatar state. She knows she is the most powerful and the most vulnerable in her Avatar state so she enters and instantly comes out of it. I guess this is the reason she lived for 230 years.

A year late, but it's not really that way, Szeto and Kuruk do it in the Avatar State explanation flashbacks, Roku when battling the volcano and Aang when rising the sea to put out the fires and when chasing Yakone in the future, it has more to do with mastering the avatar state in a way that they an use it consciously, drawing power from it instead of letting it use them like when it's triggered as a defense mechanism, as we've seen with Aang and Korra.

Given that receiving the Kyoshi Medal of Freedom is considered the highest honor in the Earth Kingdom, I don't think Kyoshi's name will be forgotten any time soon.

According to the novels, Kyoshi could have easily done that feat at 2:25 without the Avatar State. I think Kyoshi is becoming my new favorite Avatar
I think she didn't use the Avatar state for bending power because if she did she would have remained in the Avatar state for a longer time to draw the power needed. She just tapped in very quickly, that's why I think she just used it to look up experience, information or knowledge on what she has to do to properly split the peninsula from the mainland. The physical act of seperating the two by bending was performed without the Avatar state.
Kyoshi watching aang try to imitate her was just like, "nope. This doesnt work, gimme the keys real quick."

To be fair, the avatars job is to maintain balance between the four elements (water, earth, air and, fire). So it wasn't exactly her job to stop him.

@@yn1347 it was also her birth Nation, so she’d be a bit more in tune an subtle with political problems there. Knowing that swooping in and massacring Chin might not be the best move for one reason or another.
Similarly it also likely wasn’t putting the actual balance of the world in danger. Political upheaval in a nation isn’t great, but it’s not really the avatars job.
Now if chin were trying to also fight spirits or invade another nation…

She used the Avatar state to know how to separate the island. She didn't used it to drain power. In term in of raw strength nothing come close to kyoshi.
I do love the idea that Kyoshi is a gentle giant but will do whatever is needed to bring peace. She also just seems like a very headstrong person.

So Kyoshi lived to be 230 years old or something... if we consider the next Avatar, Roku, to have the appearance of when he died as well as Aang.. then Kiyoshi’s appearance reflects that of when she was 230... like an absolute beast.
Roku is actually one of the only Avatars to have the appearence of when he died (Kuruk did too)
Aang died at 66 years old, the version of him Korra comunicates with is the appearence from when he was around 40
Although I don't know how Kyoshi looked like when she was 230, that was possibly not it

Yeah, she learned it from Tieguai the Immortal, a very old assassin who she travelled with for a while. He taught her the techniques and philosophies of Guru Shoken, a rival to Guru Laghima. He and Zaheer probably would have been enemies.
im pretty sure each Avatar is shown as what they imagine themselves as. Yangchen looked 20-30, Aang is shown as 40ish. Kiyoshi is probably anywhere between 20-100 I guess. Roku is himself when he died. Kuruk looks like him when he was 20-30, probably after his wife got her face stolen by Koh and he learned that he needed to be more involved.
When she confesses you can hear the savagery In her voice .. with out a doubt one of the most feared avatars and most brutal avatars of all time .. she’s also said to be the most powerful and only avatar to reach immortality.. 230 years old when she died .. We need an avatar kyoshi run !

The scene in which Kyoshi appears through Aang is so powerful. She's such a forceful character, strong-willed in her quest for justice. Almost gives you shivers watching her in action. What a fascinating detail that she created the Dai-Li. I never knew that until now!

It was beautiful and really astonishing!!!! 😍😍😍I literally jumped seeing him because it was so uncalled for!! Even Korra didn't see it coming and thought it was Tenzin😭😭

What's kind of amazing is how much thought they put into kyoshi's character design, even as such a briefly seen character. Giving her the fans and paint, which we don't see anywhere else in earth bending culture, alludes to her parents and her link to Airbenders.
Though, come to think of it.. it's possible, and probable even that they went for classic motifs of select Chinese culture (what the earth nation is based off of) and then created a story to back they up. Regardless, the characterization of Kyoshi and how it's reflected in her design is just *chefs kiss*
They can easily make a 3-4 season show about her. She destroyed empires and lived for over 200 years... So much story to tell.

I'm literally rooting for this! For Aang it was ending war that Roku started, for Korra it was building bridges Wan broke... For the next one, it should be this!

Also there will never be another sequel to the avatar world. At most, and this is extremely unlikely, we will get prequels, like the two kyoshi novels.

I love hows it's implied that she only used the avatar state intially to split the island but pushed the island with her own strength
One scene that got me from LOK was when all the Avatars were being killed one by one and seeing Kyoshi, and Roku vanish made me bawl hysterically.
Kyoshi is one of the most powerful avatar's in the series
