I love how she is the youngest and smallest of all characters yet she is the most scary as far as talent and confidence. Putting her in any fight changes the odds. My favorite character.
The attention to detail in this show is phenomenal. At 7:58, Appa is lifting himself up on the elevator so as to not make it too heavy for Toph/Aang to lift quickly.
16:15 that level of creativity is what most writers dream of. The set the rules for this universe and then put in a character that abides by those rules and still absolutely destroys. She literally made a metal harness completely surrounding her body since she doesnt need to see which makes her invulnerable and starts annhhilating everyone in that room. goosebumps
I think this could also be considered the greatest metal ending feat of both ATLA and LOK. I don't think even kuvira could bend that high volume of metal with such power and precision.
You also gotta think, she’s bending both her suit and the ship at the same time. Not to mention reacting accordingly. She was using 110% of her cognitive ability.
Technically a rock shield would be stronger here. Metal, especially iron or steel, would absorb more energy from fire and melt the skin off her bones. Fortunately, the writers knew to not exaggerate this shield. She uses it to block single strikes and not sustained exposure. It works as a light weight armor, and unlike rock, holds its shape when bent so probably requires less focus and makes her more mobile, allowing her to be off the ground and jump, which rock armor doesn't allow, at least it's never shown to. Overall a very grounded well choreographed fight that displays her complete understanding of the element, and not just a raw power buff scene.

I don't even know the lvl one would be to just constantly bend to appear to work normally and she's jumping around in it. At this point she's not even thinking, she's just bending by the feeling of it.

I was just thinking about this and it might even be more than that, he’s not just trying to bury the library. He’s trying to fully leave the physical world and take everything to another realm of existence and Toph puts a stop to it. Probably the most impressive act of non avatar earthbending shown onscreen.
All of the benders in the Gaang are particularly strong. Toph is the strongest earth bender ever, Katara was the strongest water bender of her time, and Aang was the youngest avatar.

While everyone else is flying from the explosion, Toph is already finding her footing to launch a counter attack. It speaks to the ferocity and tenacity of her character. Even though she is seemingly outmatched at the moment, she still shows incredible courage.

Isn’t she just the coolest!? The way she fights so smooth but also rugged, and the confidence she can show in her bending. But also, the scene of her trying to earthbend the sand to stop them from stealing Appa while also trying to stop the library from sinking. But that’s not even my favourite part of it. It’s the fact that they already left halfway through but she still tried to attack them.
I hate how Toph was not included in major fights where she could've prevented a lot of things (i.e. if Toph was present at the Azula + Zuko vs Aang + Katara fight, I have no doubts in mind that she could've prevented Azula's lightning strike to Aang, and they may have even captured both Azula and Zuko right then and there, but no, of course she's not there. And Toph is on par with every agile character on the show, not because of her agility, but because of her seismic sense (her reflexes and reaction time is unrivaled), she was even beating Mai and Ty Lee, which further proves that she can actually fight against agile characters (mind you, Ty Lee is arguably the most agile in the series).
The speed at which she goes from inventing metal bending and barely being able to *bend* metal to being able to fully bend metal as easily as rock is just awesome. Adaptive, powerful, inventive, funny, blind.
Fun Fact: This was a mistake made from the storyboard/keys to the final product, with the original concept being that she put a hole for her mouth so she can breath, but they instead gave the gap for her eyes, which looks cool but doesn’t make sense lol
The fact that season 1 was still great when Toph was still non-existent proves you wrong. But I agree it became a thousand times better when she joined.

I think talent wise she was at the top, but I think iron and ozai topped her, but that’s the point, those two were some of the most talented benders of their generation and they were only better because they already have years of experience. Prime toph is likely the best earthbender ever and best bender of her generation(maybe ever)

However, Toph doesn't need to understand other bending styles because her style is the only style that matters.....she used the perfect style and techniques for bending....she used earthbending as it was supposed to be...even in Iroh's teaching, if you listen to it, when he talks about earthbending, all of those are represented by Toph. Too epic. The original series is too epic. The bending animation was superb. I remember toph despair when they were in the desert. Their challenge at the time wasnt a super strong enemy, but a variation of environment itself.
