True. It's part of what makes this scene pure gold. And the more satisfying when Ozai's lack of mercy is what ends up unlocking the avatar state again, so he gets to see if he's still so tough against a force of nature.
The fact that Aang used Toph's method seeing Ozai’s moves by the ground and then one of the first moves Katara showed to him to put down the fires makes me happy
Here's one detail I haven't seen in the comments yet: This was the first time Aang left the Avatar state without fainting or collapsing. Really shows how he has become a fully realized Avatar.
Yeah seems every fully realised avatar glows for like a second then it goes away but they have the power of the avatar state which aang does at the end to clear the water.
@@adido1438 He's fully realised because two things happen right after he does it. 1, he does the first waterbending move he learned but this time on a massive scale, 2, then the music plays the Avatar theme with the melody.
The story telling to get here. The animation and voice acting. The contempt in ozias voice the fear on aangs face. The stakes being high. The anger of the fully realized avatar state with the cold destruction in mind. Then the gentle nature of a kid that respects life winning out. This is true storytelling. This is what we need more of.
I love how all of Aang's masters are represented in this. He retracks lightning because of Zuko, he can sense Ozai sneaking up on him because of Toph and he puts out the fire with the first move Katara ever taught him. Amazing how the writers made each of them important in this final battle.
@@zeno4107 you can't really call joeng joeng his master since they didn't get to the gist of fire bending before they parted ways. And with pakku we see to little of the actual teaching of aang.

This show really had 7-11 year olds sitting on the edge of their seat in silence watching two literal SOULS battle. The most climactic scene had no cool tricks, no cool camera panning, no movement. And we were STILL biting our nails. Incredible
The best moment for me is hands down at 7:48 when he shoots pebbles the size of mere golfballs so fast that they explode like grenades. Just imagining that happening irl, is literal nightmare fuel. Combined with the seriousness & intensity of the music this gives me chills every time.

Yes! This! I remember as a kid when the day of the black sun part 2 aired, i thought that was going to be the final episode of avatar and i was so thrilled and sad at the same time. But then they dumped a bunch of extra episodes on us, Zuko joining, Aang learning airbending etc. This is absolutely the best show i've ever seen
@@ahmadraihan1667 I have rewatched this series a hundred times but I never noticed that it was a counter attack for Ozai's fire breath!!! I thought he just bursted out that gust of wind so that he'd look the fk up damn.
I noticed that but what I prefer is the fact that he didn't counter the fire breath with an air blast from his mouth; it made Aang look so much more majestic as opposed to blowing the fire away.
One really cool detail I noticed is that by the end of the fight, Ang’s shirt is burned away, but his pants are still there. I think it’s because those pants were made in the fire nation and are probably resistant to fire
Who could? Not a single bender could possibly beat a fully realized avatar in the avatar state! No blood bending or lava bending could beat it. Azula was the only one to sneak in an attack on one of them and nearly ended the cycle! Wow! And people still have the nerve of saying she was some weak brat... 😔🥱
I love how Aang countered him at the end without the Avatar state, using Toph's teachings, showing off how truly talented he was even without the Avatar state.
Another thing to note is that Aang, an Airbender, used a technique from toph, and earhbender (aka Aangs hardest element to learn) to counter Ozai's attack. Really shows how Aangs grown as the avatar
The sound design of it is brutally unique. Every other move in the show has either "oomph" or "whoosh" behind it, but that one move is PIERCING. It splinters. It's a shrapnel blunderbuss
I’m 35 now, and this show takes me back to when I was 16 or 17. I never would’ve chosen to watch it on my own, but my younger brother insisted. It felt a bit childish at first, but a few episodes in, it became a ritual for the whole family. Even my mom couldn’t wait for new episodes to drop! What seemed like a simple cartoon evolved into something deeply profound. To this day its my favorite show of all time. The themes, storytelling, and art direction transcend the medium , it’s pure creative perfection. It resonates just as strongly today as it did back then. I still get emotional thinking about certain scenes from the show. Years later i got my wife into it, cant wait until my daughter gets old enough so we can all watch together.

Every piece of this fight is amazing, but I've gotta comment on how at 0:28, I get CHILLS every time I listen to and watch Ozai using his firebending at full + enhanced power. Truly menacing.
I love that the Avatar state is genuinely terrifying instead of being solely some convenient plot armour we root for. When he’s in that state, its no longer just Aang, but raw and epic power. like a force of nature.
I was always glad that the power of the Avatar state was on some level influenced by the level of power Aang already had. Like his Avatar state by the end of the series is way more powerful than the initial one. I don't think he could've beat Ozai with the Avatar State when the show started
@@MegaAJCProductions idk, he'd still have the power of the past lives, but clearly his body could barely handle the strain until here as he always collapses after it's use
I agree completely. I've definitely thought this in past watch throughs of the series. Any time you see Ozai earlier in the series he is shrouded by fire. He doesn't have any character progression beyond "Evil Dude" and I love that. Too many shows now days over develop the main baddy with insight into their motivation and reasoning. Is it too much to just accept the evil guy does evil things?
I just realized Avatar state is aang is where all the past avatars merge with him meaning technically rokus there and has a SERIOUS personal axe to grind lol
Yeah it’s the best writing I’ve ever seen. Two enemies made from events in the world around them and not from interaction. The first time they met was the finale and it felt right! Writers need to take notes from this show
or it could have been Ozai to Aang: i'm gonna push you to that wall so you die hahaha Aang: HOLY SHI- pointy rock to Ozai: i'm bout to end this man's whole career
this is one of those animated fights i’ve been watching again and again since i was a child and it has never failed to leave me with my mouth open in amazement
The most exciting part about this entire scene is the chin grab and you know it. Will never get tired of the look on the poor guy's face when he realized he messed up.
“I took away your fire bending” I don’t know why but the delivery of that line was always so perfect to me. So Ang, no anger, no frustration, no humiliation, just control, inner peace and the will to stick to his morals.
It's so beautiful. He is Avatar Aang when he remains his most human, not when he uses his most power. Otherwise he would just be "the Avatar" (which is how people who don't know him call him throughout the show).
I really like Ozai's realization of the Avatar's strength. Fight begins: I do have the power. _I have all the power in the world!_ When he is easily overpowered, he finally admits it: *Even with all the power in the world* (you are still weak). He acknowledges how strong the Avatar can be, but doesn't associate the power of the Avatar with Aang as an individual until Aang removes his bending permanently. Such a fantastic resolution.
He might have also referred to aang not killing him and therefore being too weak to take someone’s life even when possessing all the power in the world. It would fit his character well too.
To be honest, that kinda sucked. How does the so called Fire Lord plan on taking the Avatar without considering he is the Avatar? There was never a Battle, just a careless child trying to prove himself to a Lord (and the child is not Aang).
@@Darihandsome890 not anymore since Zuko thought him how to redirect it Past avatars didnt know how to do it so they were defensless aganist azula's lightning. I LOVE that the creators fought for the epic orchestral score. Nick didn't want to spend the extra money but they wouldn't budge and they got it. It adds so much to an already epic finale
Same thing pretty much happened when Super Sayian 2 Gohan was crushing Perfect Cell at the time. When you think you are so high up and you think no one can surpass you, and then someone does...you lose focus and go into denial.
Seeing everything he’s learned, seeing with his feet, redirecting lightning, using the Avatar State, and even his newest trick, removing bending, coming together to end it was brilliant.
I love how when the avatar state is triggered every single time in this series, it's accompanied by a horror track. Because it IS supposed to be scary. Aang isn't in control of his own body, reacting purely on fight or flight, filled to the brim with unquestionable power and heartbreaking emotions/stress. That's scary. But after Ozai is defeated, after protecting the legacy of the air benders by not killing and being in total control of himself and the avatar state, it's accompanied with a heroic, hopeful orchestra.
When he’s in the planet of elements, I find it so cool how you can tell which element he’s about to bend by his movements. The creators of this show took their time and did their research and it shows.
I always thought it was so cool that Aang used Toph's technique at the end of this fight instead of the Avatar state. It was tactful writing and paid tribute towards all the actual training Aang went through.
Aang used all the techniques he's learned, the fire roar that zuko taught him, the push and pull technique katara taught him and the vibration vision that toph taught him.
When aang hides in that earth ball, that’s the moment you realize that despite being a nearly fully realized avatar…he’s still a kid…..with a monumental task.
@mrwerewolfvampire I wouldn't say that. Aang has gotten more aggressive and willing to fight as the series goes on. Don't get me wrong he still prefers peace above aggression but he views it as more necessary and he came at Ozai a few times with relatively aggressive attacks
@@tierefuerimmer9635Aang was told he was the Avatar 4 years earlier than normal. It's traditionally the age of 16 not 12. By time Aang was 16 he was already a fully fledged Avatar while 99% of Avatar's that ever lived were just starting to master their 2nd element lol
The sound effects they did in this show were amazing. You could always feel the impact of the earth, the heat of the fire, the flow of the water, and the gusts of air in the wind as every bender used the elements to their will.

Never gets old no matter how many times I watch
It’s been at least 12 years since I first watched this as a little kid and it is still as great as it’s always been
The sound effects they did in this show were amazing. You could always feel the impact of the earth, the heat of the fire, the flow of the water, and the gusts of air in the wind as every bender used the elements to their will.
The fire at 8:48 sounds absolutely incredible
Even when aang is taking away ozais bending, it sounds almost... Cosmic. Love it
Lancelottlebits earth bending is my favorite bending sound
Where can I find the foley? I NEED IT
Everybody Remember that this all started because Sokka forgot to wash his dirty socks.
Oh my gosh. This is now the proof I need to procrastinate on laundry. If I do it too soon, the avatar can’t be free.
not pleasant
Wait appa can talk XD
@@RedRoyalex Only can understand like this jokes who watched avatar ten thousand times
Sexist man doesn’t wash dirty socks so sister uses magic water and the world is saved
*Avatar state unlocks
Kyoshi: Oh finally. Roku, get outta here. Give me the wheel
Underrated comment
She was like "FINALLY! Roku, MOVE-"
@@tayfun4688 probably she's saying move, or you will be moved!
Meanwhile Ozai - Why do i hear boss music?
@iamchrispaez TV cause kyoshi is one of the more ruthless avatars
This cartoon is one of the reasons i grew up a man that i am today. The cultures and wisdom, about hate love, friendship, family, nature and war.
Its something every single child of the new generation should watch.
Even at the moment of his most anger and hate 10:00 after all of what the fire nation has done, he learned to forgive. Instead of becoming a monster like Ozai, he decided to spare him.
