  • ~Welcome to Currency World~
    If you guys want a chance at winning a Graded Mint State 70 Walking Liberty (Graded MS 70 Walking Liberty) make sure to watch the entire video and follow the instructions!
    Currency World is the premier TH-cam Channel for coins, paper money, banknotes, medals, gold and silver bullion and other types of U.S. coins and foreign coins. Please like and subscribe.
    Today we take a look at some coin grading basics, and answer some key questions including: why you should get your coins graded; where to get your coins graded; and which grading company is right for you (PCGS or NGC). Coin grading services use what is known as an adapted Sheldon coin grading scale which is a coin grading scale that goes from 1 - 70. In this video we look at coin grading examples and coin grading companies such as PCGS and NGC. This video will show you how you can get your coins graded. Don’t forget to check your pocket change now and keep coin roll hunting for those rare coins. You guys must remember that you can find rare and valuable coins without going to a coin dealer or coin shop! You do not need to spend a lot of money to find valuable coins. After watching this video you know the basics of coin grading, so it will be time to get out there and find some valuable coins. If you need help doing that you should make sure to check out some of my other videos where I break down the most valuable pennies, nickels, dimes, quarters, and silver dollars in circulation. Don’t forget to let me know what cool coins you guys have been finding in the comment section down below.
    The coin grading scale breaks down as follows:
    Uncirculated - Grade (Mint State) MS 70-60
    About Uncirculated - Grade AU 58-50
    Extremely Fine - Grade EF or XF 45-35
    Very Fine - Grade VF 35, 30, 25, or 20
    Fine - Grade F 15 or 12
    Very Good - Grade VG 10 or 8
    Good - Grade G 6 or 4
    About Good - Grade AG 3
    Fair - Grade FR 2
    Poor - Grade PO 1

    Very good information. I have gotten a few coins graded over the years with both NGC and PCGS. I know some old coin collectors that grade their own coins, but this is very difficult to do and a lot of them never sell. If you ever want to sell your coins I agree that grading the coins is a must.

    • @currencyworld
      @currencyworld  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello my friend. Thanks for sharing. I do always recommend getting coins graded if you are treating them as an investment, but getting them incapsulated by a grading service is also a good way of preserving a collection.

    Finally rec'd my coins on June 30th, they were rec'd at NGC March 11th. Can't tell you how disappointed I was to find out that I paid for NGC to look for errors on my coins (rec'd an email from them and they apologized) NGC never looked at my coins for errors. They did tell me to return my coins and at no charge they will look for errors. HA! at no charge? It's a lot of money to have coins graded just wished I would have rec'd what I paid for. I wouldn't recommend NGC to anyone.

    Just wondering about sending a maybe very valuable coin off in the mail. I was reading about people not sure if they got the same coin back that they sent. Maybe a mix up. It makes me nervous about how often it could happen. Especially with a game changer coin.

    • @currencyworld
      @currencyworld  4 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      Hi Cyndi,
      Thanks for watching and for your question. There is always a risk with mail, but if that is a concern you can always go with Fedex or UPS instead of USPS which is far less reliable. I would also get the package insured. As for mixups at the actual grader they are very unlikely. I would take pictures of everything with the submission prior to packaging to keep as proof. I hope that helps. Please consider subscribing if you have not already.

    • @currencyworld
      @currencyworld  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Rahn,
      Thanks for watching. I am glad you enjoyed it. I briefly touch upon the cost in the video. This cost excludes shipping and handling. Although grading can get pricey, it is worth it for high grade coins. ANACS is also a good service, but I would always recommend PCGS or NGC as these are the services preferred by most collectors. As a result, coins graded by PCGS or NGC also tend to command a higher resale value. I hope that helps. Please consider subscribing if you have not already.

      I am a bit confused. Is it a $1 bill or a $100 dollar bill? One dollar has Washington on the front. The $100 has Ben Franklin. What you are describing seems to be a print error. Thanks for posting this helpful video. I just started coin collecting over the past year. I kept all the change I found interesting sitting in a jar for over 6 months. I hit a needle in a haystack and almost didn't know it. I had discovered a 1971 Cameo Washington Quarter from the San Fancisco mint inside a quarter roll at the gas station I work at months ago, I tossed it inside my jar of silver nickels not even realizing it had been in there I went to check my nickels yesterday and found it. Looking to get it sent to PCGS to have it conditioned, graded, and re-cased. I'm still trying to wrap my head around how it even ended up in a bank roll as I've only seen proof cameos on collectors sites, and like most cameo strikes I'm trying to find out if it was a coin that escaped from a collectors stash or if it had graciously been tossed inside a roll at the mint and survived thinking it was one of the freshly minted 2023 quarters? I can not find any info on whether or not the mint ever circulated cameo strikes outside of collectors sets in 1971.

      Usually they do not offer to buy coins, but some grading companies do offer to help sell coins now. I am not sure whether PCGS or NGC has this sort of program but it is worth looking into, they would probably take a percent if the coin was sold with their help.

    Very good information on this particular video, my only question is how do we mail a coin into NGC or PCGS, meaning how do we insure that the companies get a coin we want graded?

      Hi Howard,
      Thanks for watching. Very good question. Both NGC and PCGS have a preferred way to mail and even provide slips for mailing the coins. My recommendation would be to send via a trusted service like Fedex or UPS, and for very high value items send it insured. Another option would be to attend a show where PCGS and NGC do on site grading and submit the coins in person. I hope that helps. Please consider subscribing if you have not already.

      Hi Sylvia,
      Thanks for watching. Yes, after having a coin or paper money graded. It can generally be sold more quickly and for more money than it would be if it is not graded. I hope I answered your question.

      Hi im just full of questions i came across 1dollar bill with a i call it a floating 7 the serial number is out of line would that be worth anything? What does a gradeing company do to paper currency?

      @@sylviatrevino270 Thanks for your question Sylvia, I am always happy to help. I am not sure what you mean by a floating serial number. As for currency grading companies I recommend PMG, PCGS internationally, and Legacy (formerly known as PCGS in the US). I hope that helps.
