    I baked them yesterday. Everyone loved them! Thanks again for this wonderful version of what we Czechs call Koláč. Pronounced as ko-la-ch. In plural, they are called Koláče. Ko-la-che.

    Tatyana, this is a double wow!! I so appreciate you including these recipes from your home and childhood. My grandmother made something similar, but not as elaborate. I love blueberries and am always looking for a way to include more in our diet. I will definitely pass this one along to our daughter who's the pastry chef in our family. Have a wonderful weekend and thank you again for all your creativity and hard work at keeping your offerings simple and always scrumptious! Prayers for you and your family and Ukraine.

    • @TatyanasEverydayFood
      @TatyanasEverydayFood  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Holly! I love adding fruits and berries to desserts - the best combination! :)
      Vatrushka is a very old name, with origins possibly from Romanian, meaning fire or ring of fire.

    Oh my gosh, I got so excited as soon as I started watching this video! You are making the Czech Kolace! Now I finally know what they're called in Ukrainian. (My neighbours are from Ukraine.) In my family, this recipe has been passed from generation to generation. But I am afraid that my two daughters will never make them without my help, simply because they are so time consuming. I make 44 of them each time and share half of them. I've been baking these ever since I was 12 years old. I make the Moravian version. I enclose the tvaroh inside the dough, like making a dumpling, and place it with the seam down on the parchment paper. I place half of canned apricot (cut side facing up) and gently press it in, to flatten the "dumpling", so my kolace end up looking as flat as yours. I sprinkle the streusel on top, just like you do. This is very close to what mine look like: th-cam.com/video/q4mLr2gUWkk/w-d-xo.html I like how you don't crowd them on the baking pan, so they wouldn't touch. Kolac is derived from the Czech word kolo (wheel) so in my opinion, it should always be round. BTW, you just got yourself a new follower on Facebook and a new subscriber on TH-cam.

    Good Day Chef 🇺🇦🧑‍🍳, I know I've mentioned before about growing up near a neighborhood in Brooklyn called Little Odessa. Well my friend you have brought me back there again. When I would go to my friends house who lived there I remember his grandmother making something we called "Special Donuts" . These yummy treats are them. I remember them being similar to a Cheese Danish but different. I was that 2nd grader at his friends house again. I just made a purple fig and strawberry sauce that I reduced to an apple butter texture. I'm going to try this recipe with some of that fruit spread. Of course I'll let you know how they turn out. Have a Blessed and Beautiful Day 🇺🇸✝️🇺🇦📖✌️❤️🙏

      @@TatyanasEverydayFood Good Day Chef 🇺🇦🧑‍🍳, It didn't just bring me back to the snack but back to the neighborhood itself. I can remember seeing the different writing on the store signs in either Ukrainian or Russian. The manner of dress and hearing the language. This was during the Cold War, times were different. There was a reason it was called Little Odessa. As the son of an immigrant my father always told me that if they are in America then they are Americans. I'm glad your family made it here. You put that boiling water and the dough into stainless steel bowls. Does the bowl not heat enough to melt the butter in the bowl? Just curious. I usually put boiling water into a container in an oven and put the dough into the oven.

    • @TatyanasEverydayFood
      @TatyanasEverydayFood  ปีที่แล้ว

      I like to use the oven method, too! I haven't had any issues with the pot and bowl method, as long as the bowl doesn't touch the hot water. I keep the bowl at least 1 1/2 to 2 inches above the water.

      These are not strictly Russian. They are considered 'Eastern European'.
