Can this one grow light help grow a HUGE Monstera?

  • My partner moved from amazing south facing and west facing windows that gave her full unobstructed light for most of the day. It allowed her to grow an amazing Monstera. After testing Soltech Solutions grow lights for 4 weeks in her new space. She is very happy with the amazing look and the light being able to help her continue to grow a giant Monstera.

Thanks Lee, ordered! I’m in Canada also, winter is coming and I’d been looking for a grow system to mainly help my Monstera this winter. The setup you’ve picked, both the light and the Archet (to), are perfect for a space near where my Monstera lives right now!

I was worried that the low kelvin would not have enough spectrum to grow plants but my plants love this light. Mine is going strong after 5 years of 24/7 operation. The light is slightly warm and super bright like looking at dappled sunshine in a forest. Just GORGEOUS and my plants love it and put out so much growth.

Thanks so much for calling out the light temperature/spectrum! I see grow lights that are just red and green, and though that's great if you're growing some herbs in your closet, we all want our interior lighting to be as pleasant as it is functional. I've got a full spectrum bulb by my desk that doesn't feel clinical at all, improves the image quality of my zoom calls (ha!), and my monstera is much happier with it than it was before. Mine dropped it's fenestration so I'm hoping it'll come back now.

you can hang it with any type of swag hook or bracket though so its not an overly big job. I still prefer a solid lamp with a grow bulb but for these big plants going up with light seems to be the only option unless windows are in abundance.

A croton video might be interesting, I noticed yours look great. My mum has one called mrs iceton and I've been trying to move it around the house in less-than-ideal spots cause I have no room where I grow my plants. it pushes out little green leaves that turn entirely yellow but continue to grow to full size, im not sure if this is reversion or 100% variegation since it grew these leaves while it was outside on a patio shaded from all but a few hours of direct sun which is where it is right now. it hasnt produced any of its pink or patterned colorastion since it was brought home but tbh I havent really done my part to know anything about it or what it likes.

I’ve been using the aspect light for my mature monstera and giant bird of paradise (at 8’, a ceiling mount was really the only option). The Soltech vita grow light bulbs are also great - I have North facing windows, which don’t really cut it for my tropical plants. I’ve had the vita bulbs for over a year, and my plants are thriving. I love that I can install them in floor lamps and direct the light to where it’s needed without drawing attention to that fact it’s a grow light.

I have to admit we mounted a commercial Revolution light in our livingroom from the cathedral ceiling for all the plants that come in for winter around 40 of them including bananas citrus, sugar cane cuttings, dwarf tamarillo trees, aji charapita peppers, ginger, ornamental figs, jades and more lol. The Monstera when it was outside was under dappled shade so it went to the dining room where it's gets indirect fairly bright light along with the corn cane plant. So after all that I am a little concerned it might not be getting ideal light...maybe this light might work for some supplemental light in the dining room. Even though we have skylights this is pennsylvania the land where the skies can be cloudy all day....as always thanks for the video....I am loving this channel. I just got an Aspect large…and it puts out an amazing amount of light, a lot more than I thought it would. Certainly enough to maintain a larger sized plant. I have it over a table with approx 10 medium and small size plants. I had to raise the light a little higher because it was almost too bright. I have some lower light plants around the perimeter of the table, where it isn’t as bright. Low light plants would do great on the floor around the table. Been a few weeks and I’m seeing amazing growth spurts in almost all the plants. Sorry I didn’t buy this grow light sooner!

I've been using that same Soltech lamp for 2+ years now over my monstera. A few months ago I had a leaf flip completely over trying to get more sun. I recently realized the plant wasn't oriented the correct way so that may have been the issue, but have you noticed any leaves flipping? I thought that maybe the directly overhead light was the issue and was considering moving to a track light so the leaves don't flip.

Energy costs would depend on your specific location, and if you have tiered pricing but on average it'll probably be around $1-$1.75 a month for 1 large 40w bulb.

I do have one question. How long would you say is a good time frame for a plant to be used to its new environment? I have a monstera adansonii that I ordered 4 months ago, and it has most recently been on my covered porch with the rest of my plants. All of my other monsteras seem to be doing fine, but this one is slowly getting some little brown crispy spots on quite a few leaves. I thought maybe it was pests, so I gave it a good cleaning and sprayed with my homemade natural pesticide. I do not see any new spots in the last 2 weeks, but it just made me wonder if maybe it was still adjusting to its new home. I believe it was an indoor plant, as well as being in a much cooler environment. And I did slowly bring it outside, I didn't do it immediately or anything lol. But I honestly do not purchase new plants often enough to really know how long it generally takes for them to adjust. As always, love the video! Appreciate all your information, thank you!

great question. I do think it really depends plant to plant, as well as what it's previous and new environment. temperature, lighting etc. I think its important, and it seems like you've already started to, eliminate other things that could cause that browning, eg pests, watering inconsistencies, root issues.

    • @KillThisPlant
      @KillThisPlant  ปีที่แล้ว

      If you use their growing guide the recommended distance is 20W: 24” - 48” 40W: 48” - 60”.
I would probably make my decision based on
-will the light look good positioned here
-is it in the right range to help my plant
If your plant is 1 foot tall and placed on the ground, you'd have to hang the 20W light fairly low and it might look a bit strange hanging so far down.

If you are buying lights for general use around your home the colour is the most important. Purple or coloured lights are often harsh on your eyes so if you're using that in your immediate living space I would avoid them.
