    Trial and error is scientific! It's just not as efficient for some experiments. I completely understand that you want to enjoy your hobby and not turn it into a spreadsheet project.

    Agree with your mum 😀
    My grandpa used to say: we are not that rich to spend money on cheap items that become useless too soon.
    I've recently bought an expensive grow light and after a month of usage I see the difference. My plants definitely look happier)

    A month ago I purchased their growlight and I am super happy with it so far. Btw, in the reference section while ordering I mentioned that I learnt about the company from you. So totally glad you are now officially partnering with them. As far as I know, they started as a start-up and still not that known, so it is amazing to give them some love and attention :) awesome video!

      @@surronzak8154 your right there high I bought multiple expensive and cheap brand grow lights but these for some reason are the only ones who make your plant shine I’m thinking it’s there spectrum because it’s def not because there the strongest out there cus I will agree they are weak as far as price but they work AWESOME in cabinets.

    I appreciate your trial and error method. I’m consistently moving plants around in order to have them be in the best place possible. Whether it be every few days or weeks, if I notice one not growing as well or not happy, then I move it. Then if I find that sweet spot for that plant, I try to keep it there 🥰

    I already use grow lights (from different manufacturers), but one of the main points I took from this content was the sideways light as opposed to vertical from above. It's a good point, so thank you for that. I'll see if I can implement that into my hobby somehow.

    💡I’ve had my Mother grow light for almost a year and am pleased with how my plants are growing with it. I really appreciate how sleek and unobtrusive the light is. Certainly looks much nicer than any other grow light I’ve seen before. One thing that wasn’t mentioned is that their are several different mounting options available besides the vertical stand. It can be hung horizontally from either steel wire or mounted directly to a shelf, wall, ceiling, etc. There also is a freestanding horizontal frame that will hold the light above smaller plants, cuttings, seedlings, etc.

    This was an AWESOME video! So very informative without being a Ph.D course, as you say. I have Mother grow lights, as well as Barinas and Modios. Mother is, without a doubt, the best. it's the best looking, the best-looking light, the sleekest, and has done the best for my plants. But I can't justify the cost for my IKEA cabinets. The Mother really are so good...just so pricey. Thanks again for the wonderful video!!

    Very good presentation, Dr. Lux. I was thrilled to see the Mother lights; I've been looking for years for attractive fixtures, and they are the best I've seen since they're so unobtrusive. Good find. Also I think your technical discussion is on point; it is important to know that measuring light is not as straightforward as measuring temperature, where all you need is a thermometer.

    agree strongly on the going very scientific. i feel it takes the "fun" away from hobby especially when there are tonnes of parameters with light requirement specifics. i prefer to trial it out when lighting is enough or not by observing the plant growth and so far they've been doing well! anyway, beautiful plants man. thanks for being the goals of many plant hobbyist everywhere 😁

      I find digging into numbers and understanding the parameters you mention as being fun. Some trial and error can be fun, but where do you draw the line? Why watch youtube videos or do any research? Just grab whatever plants look nice in the store and have at it. You can take it to the extreme in either direction.

    It's an excellent product, well worth the cost, but I wish they had a white option (instead of only black). Like you, I have very little floor space, so it's great to have it stuck on my wall. But all my walls are painted brilliant white; the contrast with the black tube is nice, but I think it would have looked even better if it were white, blending with the wall. I will really invest in a couple more if there were white ones!

I’m about to move to a new place and wish I’d seen this before I bought a light meter when I’m really much more about just paying attention to them. But have been worried about them not getting enough light. The grow lights out on market are not very aesthetically pleasing but I do like these Mother lights…thank you! Like Soltech products but their hanging mechanism is really janky. That industrial looking tall black floor lamp with the large dome for fixture you have that I saw in another video…is that just a floor lamp you found and put a grow bulb in? This was super helpful, thank you! I haven't been able to find anyone who could explain plant lights this way before.
    You deserve good money for this, I'm sold 😄😄 Definitely looking into getting at least one for my dark corner, which means... room for more (thriving) plants! 🤩😂

    Too much science on light just sends my brain into shutdown mode, lol. I, like you, want to enjoy my plants and make them a part of my home's decor. Through trial and error and paying attention to my plants, I think I have a pretty good handle on what lighting works in my home esthetically and keeping my plants happy. No light meter! Anyway, thanks for an informative, if a bit too scientific for me, video. Your plants are really gorgeous!

    Great informative video, i bought one a few months ago and i am very happy with it. The light itself is very pleasent, the design looks great ,it can be re-used (by changing the led stripes) and it can be placed horizontal or vertical. It is worth the money in my oppinion and i will get more .
    I hope Mother Life will bring some grow light bulbs out in he future, so we can use them in existing fixtures.

    Everyone thinks I am creating spreadsheets for my plants because I live and die by them for work. As a professional who looks for standardization, KPIs, etc., I take the opposite approach for this hobby. I enjoy tending, observing, editing and enjoying the plants that respond to my care. I’ll put in the work but it shouldn’t feel like work.

    Do you have any suggestions for how to stack/attach the Mother lights one on top of the other? I think I noticed it in a video and I only own one Mother light on a base, so I wasn't sure how you got them to attach. Would be a game changer for me as some of my climbers are getting out of range, and I can't lift the current light any further without it then making my shorter plants miss out. Thank you so much!

      Hey, i used the screw that is used to mount if on the disk to screw the together. Just open the case of one of them, screw the screw in fr the back (so it sticks out when you close the case again) and then twist the second light on top :)

    Recently I have read that plants have a "battery" of sorts to store energy. William Cullina in his book, Understanding Orchids, explains on page 25. Let's take for example the moth orchid, Phalaenopsis; it requires 1000 footcandles for 8 hours. ((I know that readings of PAR (Photosynthetically Active Radiation) are superior to footcandle readings. But I have not seen a table of PAR requirements for orchids; happily Cullina cites footcandle requirements for each of the many genera in the A to Z chapter of his book.)) He says that "plants can store some of the energy they make to use on a rainy (or winter) day. If your plants have been happily photosynthesizing all spring, summer, and fall, they can spend some of their energy stores to get through the winter or even to bloom then. Since footcandles received convert directly into energy stored, if your plants receive an hour at 2,000 fc, two at 1,500, and five at 600, this still averages to 1,000 fc over eight hours. If you grow under lights, you can get away with 500 fc over sixteen hours, which is one of the reasons we leave the lights on so long." I find this revelation quite useful for indoor gardeners who must resort to artificial lighting to keep the plant crowd happy.

    • @sydneyplantguy
      @sydneyplantguy  ปีที่แล้ว

      Really depends on the size of the plant on your moss poles & how far away the lights are. The closer the stronger the light but the smaller the area it covers

    Hi Jahn, Grüße aus Hanau. 😊
    I have a question. I absolutely LOVE your plants and value your videos so much, I just spent another weekend with you. 😅
    Here to my question: I'd like to grow a Monstera Deliciosa in my 2.5mtr wide by 1.80mtr high south facing window - which is set back 2 meters off a balcony. Plus I have cabana curtains hanging, so even my alocasias do well outside even though the sthrn sun blasts in. But it is my wish to also have magnificent leaves growing onto the inside , so I can wow myself when coming home. You also know German weather! I will definitely need light 2-3 seasons of the year. So if I have the mother light shining onto it from the inside, will I get leaves on both sides? I was also considering filling a moss pole (without a back plastic side) w. aeroid mix and placing 2 of my cuttings on opposite sides of the pole (1 cutting to the balcony side/1 cutting yoward livingroom with mother light). Or should I just rotate the plant 90° every watering? I'd appreciate any guidance or experience you could give me. 🍀

    • @sydneyplantguy
      @sydneyplantguy  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thank you:) Mmm honestly I’m not 100% sure but proof is in the pudding. You might just have to try:) I’d certainly grow multiple cuttings 360-degrees around the pole. I assume one side will grow faster than the other but you can just rotate the plant all the time :)

      Thank you, for your reply. 💖 Should my pot be 20cm then, if I start out with 2 rooted Monstera?

    • @sydneyplantguy
      @sydneyplantguy  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Choose the pot in proportion to the size of the root system :) Monstera specifically don't mind being more root bound, so really depends on the size of the cutting and how many roots it has :) but 20cm sounds about right :)

      The lights are quite expensive but it's really good. If you want to give it a try, perhaps start with one; you'll be surprised how much light one emits. And I think the light spreads up to a 60° angle. The plants I thought were far away and to the sides are all responding to the lights. If you have white walls, it reflects the lights back even better (some plants started facing the wall instead of the light!). You might not need as many as you imagine.

    Hello, I see that the light spectrum and cri is almost same as the light I am using.. but I am having trouble with leaves burning only for certain anthuriums and certain philos like gloriosum and macdowell. On the other hand, monsteras and certain others love more light.. Do you have any guidlines for anthuriums when using these grow light? or some tips on layout.. I am not sure how much ppfd is the adequate for them.
