  • When my long-term renters left after 8 wonderful years, I made the decision to renovate this beach cottage as a furnished mid-term or short-term rental. Here's how to stretch the renovating and decorating budget and how to maximize space in a small rental home.
I'll share my best space-saving DIY ideas and tricks---so easy you can give them a try in your own small home or apartment.

Hi Sylvia! Thank you so much for your encouraging words. Light and airy is just the vibe I was going for. I’ll have more time and budget in the next phase to embellish the place a little bit more. The tenant will move out in Oct. I’ll post some of my fresh decor ideas then!

YES green painters tape (frog tape I think it’s called) transcends the blue tape!

You are so right. I’m also feeling the blue tape used to have a little more grip than it does. I’ll stick with the green. Thank you so much for watching.

Love this so much!!!...actually about 6 months ago I purchased a sisal rug to put in my home office and realized something was missing... and when I see what you did with the stenciling ...that gives it some design and texture ...great creative tips all around!!

Thank you SO much for your kind comment. I felt exactly the same way. I love the way sisal looks clean and coastal, but it needs a little personality. Stenciling is a quick and budget way of making that happen. No artistic talent required. Hope to see you for the next one!

The rug is genius! ❤ the bath is so much better, clean, fresh looking. The kitchen has a beach cottage vibe with the cabinet color. The stainless steel back splash with the knife holder is a serious game changer for counter space. Love it. Love the bench in the dinette area. You certainly haven’t forgotten one small space design trick, in fact, I do believe you added to those in your books! I would have waited to rent it as well. Congrats! 🎉🎉🎉 I love how lush the bike looks, too. I am always scanning the roadside for a bike I can repurpose. Your’s is very inspiring. 😊 Have a wonderful week.

@@lindawynell Hi Linda! The week doesn’t feel complete until I read your kind words. I see this rental decorated in stages. I felt pressed to get this cottage ready for move in and there wasn’t time to add all of the art on the walls etc. Once the tenant leaves in the fall, I’ve got some clever decor ideas that I will be giving a whirl.
Thanks for watching. I hope your son is gaining strength every day and that you are able to check off some of your fun DIY to-do list.

Hello Friend! You are back with a beautiful design for your small space. I really like the outcome of the entire space. Do I favor one area better than the other, yes I do. The dining room and kitchen are my favorite. Also, the stenciled rug in the turmeric color is turned out to be flawless, good job! I love it. I’m going to take a second glance at video.
Thank goodness you got a tenant, she is going to enjoy the comfort and newness of her small space.
    Thank you 😊

You are so sweet with your feedback. The dining room turned out cute and it was the most budget friendly zone. The wood bench was in my guest bedroom, and I guess you recognize the fabric from the duvet cover I made for my own bed? The table I got from FB marketplace.
I ran out of time since I wanted to accommodate the tenant’s schedule. The nice thing is that once she leaves in November, I’ll be able to style another layer with art etc. See you next week!
