I lived in a studio apartment in 1995 till 2010. In the summer of 2010 I purchased a 400 sq ft studio condominium currently still living in the unit in 2024. I cannot imagine living in anything any bigger. Studio apartments and studio condominiums are the most overlooked real estate on the market.
It's strange for me to hear something like: "I cannot imagine living in anything any bigger". It's more psychologically comfortable for a person to live in an apartment where is a lot of free space around him and where the ceiling is high.
Easier to live in smaller spaces and actually more fun! Cozy and I can't stand it when I'm in a huge cavernous space, like mega mansions or super large apts! Prefer small kitchens as well! Big isn't necessarily better!!
Lauren is a lovely lady that really knows how to decorate. Her apartment does NOT look like it is only 220 sq. ft.! It definitely looks a lot bigger, as she knew exactly how to place everything in order to expand her space. She has impeccable taste and that is because she lives in the fashion world! She has an eye for where she would place her furniture and accessories. I personally do not see anything wrong with her kitchen cabinets but if they are not her taste, she could perhaps get permission to cover them with peel and stick paper. There are so many varieties and colors out there that she could choose from. There may be other solutions, but I don't know what else she could do. If she decides to cover them I am sure they will turn out beautifully as she is so detail oriented.
She’s got great style. I noticed how just pulling the bed away an inch from being crammed next to the wall makes all the difference. She has a great eye and has made this place so lovely ❤
Agree, great "bones" to start (window materials and size). Although maybe a little too difficult - would have been cool to do "molding" on the **ceiling, and then just detailed/older looking strip/border in the crevice between ceiling and wall. Lay out/spacing of the different areas - lovely. Agree, too, that it's a little harsh/awkward to be hit with a cabinet or interruption upon entering space. That problem was taken care of here. Thank you for sharing. Much happiness in your space.
For the wardrobe you can buy iron-on hemming tape to make it look neater. There's also velcro tape to hang it up more neatly. That's the easiest no-sew way I'm aware of.
Hi! Lovely home!! Regarding your pretty fabric panels for your wardrobe... Might you consider curtain rods small curtain rods installed at the tops and bottoms of each glass panel (inside) where your fabric could be more sturdier placed and easily shirred to your liking?
If you use iron on tape making a 1.5 inch hem I the top and bottom of the closet fabric. Then put 1 screw in each cogeneration do the door next to the glass 2 inches outside the glass. Then string elastic through the top and bottom of the curtain then tie a knot securing it to the screws And then you have it easy made closet drapes. Love your space. Thanks for sharing 💕
Fantastic looking decor. The colors are blended so beautifully in the space. I am envious of the bedding and the way Lauren put it together. I too, love the worn out leather chair.
A all I can say is spectacular. This place is great.I love the way it looks.I love like it looks lived in with such a little space, you made special areas just for yourself and other people. When they come over, you did a great job. This is one of the best I have ever seen... I'd live there in a heartbeat
So darling. Traditional vibe! Those cabinets? I'd suggest either fabric inserts, temporary contact type, or fancy paper ( art stores), even woven placemats cut to fit, and use double stick low- tack tape. With patterns just center them. And to finnish off your wardrobe fabric? If you're not a sewer get iron on hemming tape. Press a 1/4 inch fold to each wrong side, then another half with the tape inside. It's hemmed! And to attach on top and bottom you can order a wider, more sticky double tape through Amazon, etc.
Yes, but Lauren, if they really bother you, you might consider placing a removable adhesive-backed thin mirrored panel to the inset areas to detract from the wood you don't care for and also to continue your reflective theme. (?) Beyond that idea, what about covering the mirrored cabinet areas with your choice of etched glass-looking contact paper?? Kind of gives the feeling of looking out a "real" window. Just a thought or two. Blessings!
So creative, so beautiful, I just loved this. Lauren has great taste and a beautiful spirit, I love how happy she is to be living there. The best thing about your studio is having a kitchen that is tucked away in a nook. Your bed is taking up space that could be better used, but I guess it goes with you from rental to rental. Your changes have made a basic box into a lovely space.
how would you better use the space the bed is in - she has a desk, storage, a sofa - really all she’s missing is a table but if she doesn’t cook she won’t be needing a dining room table - even if she did cook - the dining room table wouldn’t be going where the bed is - so without be a jerk about it - how would you better use the space the bed is in 🇨🇦🙏
Wow!! What an absolutely amazing space!! I love everything about it (even the kitchen cabinets). Also, your spirit is so beautiful. Never let anyone steal your joy.
I'm with you when it comes to a separate kitchen and the molding. That fire escape is also a nice extra if no balcony. One thing I would do differently is replace the bed with a "Murphy Bed"...practical and always ready but not in your face.
This studio is designed for the youngsters with extroverted styles. Lauren Wilson’s studio by far is beautifully done. Ms. Wilson’s shows the beauty of her Studio’s designs. Thank you for the tips on where to get cm and the installation people, that anyone get their services.
I'm sorry...but 'what'???? 'youngsters w/extroverted styles' WHAT does that even mean...she's a grown career, successful woman, not a youngster. What the heck does extroverted style mean...this is a very traditional, chic apartment.
A very tasteful and stylish place. What would work well in your wardrobe would be expanding curtain wire, the sort that is plastic coated with a hook and eye to secure it in place. It’s designed for light weight fabric and all you’d have to do would be to sew a channel top and bottom and thread the wire through - and Bob’s Your Uncle.
Hi, I'm a former retired fashion illustrator in NYC and also studied interior design and I have to say you have excellent taste! I had a studio apt many moons ago and now live in a 19th century carriage house cottage in New England! Studio apts are indeed cozy! Enjoy~~♥♥
I absolutely LOVE this apartment. You wouldn't believe it's only 220 square feet, it's so warm, cosy, yet gleaming with intentional design touches. The reason I clicked on the video is because of the beautiful bedspread - Jaipuri hand block print is SO gorgeous and absolutely ubiquitous in India. While Lauren mentions that it's an English-garden vibe from Ballard Designs, I HAVE to take this moment to talk about how beautiful hand-printed block print even came to be in England, or associated with it for that matter! (hint: trade -> colonialism!) As as Indian, this is Jaipuri hand block print so dear to everyone back home! Would love for viewers of this channel to know a little bit more about the ancient technique that a lot of contemporary Western design houses are importing as "English" motifs when actually they are very deeply from the Indian subcontinent. Another amazing example of it is her amazing desk-chair cushion with Jaipuri block print! Beautiful space and design choices!
LOVE studio tours especially featuring grown ass women living in them! New Yorkers know there is no shame living in a studio. Sure we might prefer more space, but if a studio allows you to live in the place that makes your heart feel alive, you can make it work beautifully.
Use a door spring at the top of your closet door to put fabric on. Small nails on either end and maybe one support in the middle. Then just use the Velcro to wrap the spring. Kitchen cabinets, since you don’t cook, add some of the wall paper into the interior panel of cabinet doors and/or turn into a gallery
A place created with love and such a good feeling for style and combinations. Very elegant with lots of Laura-Ashley-Vibes. I love it! And I love her shoes in the kitchen cabinet 😂
One suggestion for your kitchen is to do inserts to your cabinets. Your cabinets are cherry in a shaker style. If you have any of the wall paper from your entry or if you are able to buy enough more to meet the amount needed, fill the inside of the "frame" on the cabinets with that wall paper. You can get large sheets of card stock (heavy paper) and adhere the wall paper to the card stock, then using an easily peeled off 2-sided tape adhere the paper to the doors. You could even do 2 different papers, one on each side of the card stock so that if you want to change the look you have a second option.
This? This I love...! Thoughtful, reasonable, beautiful. Scale of everything is on point. The changing vignettes of each little area just _works_ . Burnt orange cinnamon to match the window frames was fantastic. Her dress sense, & her home create a combination where I (a very grumpy person) would trust her judgement.
Your apartment is so cute. If you want to change up your cabinets, take foam board and cut it to fit the middle of your cabinets. You can cover the foam board with fabric, wallpaper, caning, etc. I just really think your apartment is lovely and dreamy.💕💕
I recommend implementing one of the two below methods regarding the kitchen cabinets #1 Take the front doors off and store them somewhere for example, under your bed. Decorate the inside of the shelving as the area will now be open. You could drape paper doilies bent in 1/2 around the edges of the bottom of the inside of the cabinets and they will hang down. You will then have more room to place treasured items or plates, bowls, etc. in the newly created cubby holes. #2 Apply liquid starch & 100% cotton patterned material to the cabinet doors. Soak the cut material pieces in the liquid starch and apply to door and smooth out; no need to take the front door off of the cabinet. Cut the material pieces to fit the outside of the cabinet doors or cover the entire cabinet. You may even do this to the cross sections left showing if you remove the cabinet doors (as mentioned above). The liquid starch will not harm the cabinets and is renter friendly. In the past, I have created a focal wall on a flat wall with this liquid starch method and will testify it works well.
Wow-wee! I have watched a million of NYC apartment tours. Yours is my favorite. For starters, I like that you have a closet where you can hang your many clothes rather than to stash them folded in bins stored beneath your bed making it necessary to iron or steam everything before wearing. If you don’t like to cook, I know you detest ironing. The thorny spot is the gingham. It ruins your whole vibe. At first I thought you could substitute saris for the gingham but New York has so many fabric stores. You can buy a remnant for cheap. Before knowing your business I would have sworn you are an interior designer.
Since the cabinets have inset panels I would recommend using peel and stick wallpaper that compliment the tone of the cabinets and tie into the over color scheme of the apartment. It’ll minimize the over brown tone feeling of the kitchen and give a fun feel and bring more color.
You could get over the door hooks to hang paintings/artwork on the cabinets. They sell small felt self stick pads you can put on the back corners of the frames to prevent scratches on the cabinet faces. I think this would really dress up those cabinet doors.😊
I have been in friends & families mansions as well as 300 sq ft studios. I have never cared what my friends live in. What I care about is they are my friends and family. Priorities & home is where the 🩷is.
I really like the style and her style too! It feels very cozy and warm with the worn in furniture and fabric choices. It is just a tad bit cluttered for my taste. I might have gone for a smaller wardrobe so it doesn't take up as much space.
Actually the kitchen cabinets blend nicely with the wood color in the windows. Fantastic job with what you did with the space. You can possibly take another choice of fabric pattern and place in the inset of the kitchen cabinets. Just a suggestion.
A person could live in this space quite happily and for a very long time. This is what a studio apt is supposed to be: liveable.

Wow!! What an absolutely amazing space!! I love everything about it (even the kitchen cabinets). Also, your spirit is so beautiful. Never let anyone steal your joy.
Your home is lovely and comfortable and I always feel that your home should be "you."
I'm with you when it comes to a separate kitchen and the molding. That fire escape is also a nice extra if no balcony. One thing I would do differently is replace the bed with a "Murphy Bed"...practical and always ready but not in your face.
Like everyone says, the wood look on the cabinets is great. Maybe add some molding to tie them into the look of the windows even more !
She did a spectacular job! Just love it!!!! So charming and in the modern angular city this is perfect. Also the light tones make it look larger.
Great space, especially the windows and the large mirror.
Cool aesthetic.
Incredible what you have done with such a small space. Your bedroom is your living room
Very creative young lady. Love what she did in such a small space.
What a fabulous apartment. Your style matches your outgoing personality. BEAUTIFUL space...you have a knack, to be sure!
Love your place!. Use a stapler to tack down the pleats in your wardrobe. A simple office/desk stapler should work
Hi, I'm a former retired fashion illustrator in NYC and also studied interior design and I have to say you have excellent taste! I had a studio apt many moons ago and now live in a 19th century carriage house cottage in New England! Studio apts are indeed cozy! Enjoy~~♥♥
Love the shade string pulls! Beautifully designed space!❤
What an amazing vision she has for her living space. Very impressive.
Loved everything about her decorating, and her personality :)
Such a cozy, pretty design. It’s practical with clean lines. Luv it.❤
Extremely talented young lady, very pleasant liveable space.
I think the cupboards tie in beautifully with the window trim. The style is not the same, but the color is great.
I actually really like the kitchen cabinets. I wouldn't paint them. They're nice as-is. Love walnut wood.
your place looks great! I think the kitchen cabinets are nice and suit the space. They also resemble the wood in the windows. 🙂
Excellent job just love your home.
Cozy and well integrated space. A beautiful home and the soroundings look nice as well
You have a great cozy space. Warm, yet light! Makes one just want to relax & recharge.
I put peel n Stick grass cloth on the inset area of my kitchen cabinets and it helped tone them down sooo much!
I really like the style and her style too! It feels very cozy and warm with the worn in furniture and fabric choices. It is just a tad bit cluttered for my taste. I might have gone for a smaller wardrobe so it doesn't take up as much space.
I love the light fixture in the bathroom... Her apartment is gorgeous
Love IT!!!! & LOVE the cabinets they match the window mouldings!!! Put up some peel 'n stick on the bath walls for some color or paint the walls
Actually the kitchen cabinets blend nicely with the wood color in the windows. Fantastic job with what you did with the space. You can possibly take another choice of fabric pattern and place in the inset of the kitchen cabinets. Just a suggestion.
