    That's a really nice looking razor. I wish is was less expensive but it's really a great razor. The knurling on that razor and the envoy are the best in the business IMO.

      Agreed on the looks, lots of razor options in the $200 range now making competition fierce!

    I just got my Rex Ambasador I think it’s amazing piece to own, to me personally it’s way better than Muramasa in every aspect but YMMV tho…
    Great Review 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼

    The package has changed somewhat. Love my Rex Ambassador. A steep price, but totally worth it in my opinion.

    Goos stuff 👍🏻 I have had a Rex Ambassador for well over a year now. I wouldn’t say it’s an aggressive razor. However, I agree that cranking it up higher than 3 can make it an aggressive one. According to my experience it performs best with blades such as Polsilvers, Gilette Platinums, Silverblue, 7 O’clock blacks, Rapira Lux Platinums. I usually use it between 1.5-2.5 depending on how much growth I have. It probably has the best knurling of any razor 😊 It can be taken apart to pieces for deep cleaning and contain several parts including a spring.

      Aggression or efficiency is a subjective thing for sure.

    I just got mine today and I think 2 1/2 was about where I liked it but my first day with it was kind of rough.
    Still need to dialed in find that perfect blade razor combo get the right angle you know everything that happens with a new razor the first time you use it

    I like this intro. Your other one was good too, but this one would be my favorite of the two. Nice work! That razor is beautiful!

    Nice breakdown Jon. I have the Envoy. I came with a few scuffs but its definitely a well built razor that shaves just above medium efficiency imo. It just needed way better packaging.

    I don't have any "number adjustable" razors. I have the Ascension Twist from PAA, but that is not really the same thing. It works as an adjustable, but the margin is pretty small and hard to replicate from shave to shave. I had no idea until now that Matt started Rex.

      Take Care Man I’m surprised you don’t have a Gillette Slim or Fatboy in your line up!

      @@Latherhog I have been wanting to try and find one in the wild. My neighbor is an antique "picker." I talked to him the other day about giving me first chance at any shaving stuff he finds. We shall see.

    Nice review Jon. I don't have the Rex but its worth noting that Razor Emporium often has a 15-20% coupon code for most products including the Rex.

    Excellent review Jon, I was debating between the Ambassador and the envoy and I think I'll stick with the Envoy now that you confirmed my doubts that the ambassador is too aggressive even for my coarse beard.

    • @Latherhog
      @Latherhog  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks Mohammad! FYI, I’ve heard the Envoy is akin to the “3” setting on the Ambassador!

    The Rex Ambassador is my favorite adjustable. I head and face shave. Quality and function is wonderful. Love the knurling. If I was to have one do it all razor no matter my hair growth, this would be it. That said, I do prefer for daily to 2 days facial growth the Charcoal Goods Lvl 2 Copper with the Magnum handle and second, Carbon Shaving razor. The Rex has the ability to take 2+ weeks of head hair off Comfortably and a days worth of facial peach fuzz off equally.

    Really nice review, Jon! Do you feel like the blade is clamped down very tightly in the Rex Ambassador? Any blade chatter? Oh, I like the new "splash" screen!

    Did you find it too aggressive even on the 1-2 setting? I wouldn't mind it being super aggressive on the higher setting as long as you had the ability to make it smooth (similar to a Rockwell) on the lower settings. That way you're able to grow with the razor

    • @Latherhog
      @Latherhog  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, I found it aggressive even on the lowest of settings.

    How does it compare to the Rockwell 6C or 6S?

    • @Latherhog
      @Latherhog  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Much more aggressive than either Rockwell on the most aggressive plate I’d say.

    • @CraigRasmussen1
      @CraigRasmussen1 ปีที่แล้ว

      That would be way too much also. I will occasionally use a 5 or 6 on my Rockwell T2 SS or 6S when I have some heavy beard growth. For two day’s growth…I use a 4 or 4.5 for the WTG pass…and 3 for the XTG and ATG pass. This would make the Ambassador much too aggressive for me. I also like the TTO feature better on the T2 than the Ambassador.

      I haven't tried the AS-D2, from my research I think that razor would be too mild for me.
