I pair my R 41 up with either feather blades or Wilkinson, sword Classics. Both very sharp blades. It creates a very satisfying, smooth, shave, but you definitely do have to be careful. I've seen one individual shave off a nine-month beard with a razor I have, but I can't get a smooth shave with the same razor. If one has coarse beard growth, one might require more aggressive razors to get 'BBS' results. I've come to prefer aggressive, single edge razors using Feather Artist Club blades (which seem more comfortable, due to the blade thickness) and the most aggressive DE safety razors, but used with a very light touch. No issues for me in adjusting (on a side note, I found that TTO razors in general give me irritation on my neck, unfortunately). I believe the vintage Gillette Fat Boy and Slim Adjustable required the handle to be loosened a bit prior to adjustment.
To all the novices who where like me and don’t know the reason or point of open combs. They keep the razor from gunking up with hair. There will be points where the closed bar gets hair stuck in it. The open comb does not have this issue.
Open comb razors allow for more blade exposure and a somewhat closer shave than closed comb razors, plus allow for some lather to remain on one's face during the shave.
I have R41. I had the worst shaving experience when I use feather in first use. Always have the best results with Bic platinum or ASTOR blade. My skin is really hard against irritations. The feeling tho was the worst ever. I didn’t even wait for the second and smoother feather use, I toss it immediately.
This is why I rarely use my Muhle R41 open comb razor. I wouldn't be scared of Feather blades. I never cut myself with them. Just because of their sharpness, you might not feel the need to press harder, which will actually result in less cuts. But I would stay away from Perma-Sharps for now. Their sharpness increases and decreases very fast between your shaves. They're not consistent. But I would stay away from Perma-Sharps for now. Their sharpness increases and decreases very fast between your shaves. They're not consistent. They actually get even sharper than Feathers for a while. You need to know what you're doing.
If you look forward to a daily morning shave as I do, the Ambassador may create a problem for you…..you may not have any reason to shave the next day. When I do a three pass shave at 6,3,1, I’m a still smoother the next day than I was immediately after shaving with my old Gillette Fusion! Kind of funny, really.
I think you maybe forgot your favourite thing baby smooth on skin face.
Decided to add the Rex Ambassador to the collection of face scrapers, looking forward to that first shave with it!
I will prefer my pearl flexi
