UPDATE - They seem to filter out some of the higher pitch road noise coming from the wheel well. They do not decrease engine noise. With the ecoboost turbo the engine sounds seems to come right through the middle of the windshield and so these only made some difference with road noise. Not a crazy improvement so not sure it's worth $80 but it does make a difference, especially on rougher country roads.

I would not have bothered myself. The thing is... People are buying, or trying to buy (and waiting a long time), these things like we don't know the track record Ford has the last, oh I don't know... Let's say 40 years or so for terrible build quality. Especially in the cars. I can let say, Ford trucks go as they tend to make decent trucks but this is the first model year run. And made in Mexico to boot. I just don't understand it myself, what's the rush to get one of these things to possibly find out in a year or two or three you got major issues like blown head gaskets or ruined cams or bearings from insufficient oil circulation. I mean if you got the 30 large to burn, go ahead, I myself would put that money into a mutual fund or ETF or even just buy some American Gold eagles or something. Would be nice if Ford new car warranty on the power train ran 100k miles like on the Hyundai/Kia and Mitsubishi. That would make me feel a little better. Look at these foam noise suppression things. My wife's Mitsubishi came with them, they're just pieces of foam to help stop road and wind noise. But makes you wonder what else they left out, I don't see this part being part of a "package" or specific trim, it's so cheap for Ford it doesn't make sense to leave them out on purpose on XL and XLT. Makes me wonder what else is missing. I like the truck TBH but I'll have to wait a couple years to see how they fare. I wish you luck and hope you can squeeze out 200k miles out of her with no issues.

@@justacinnamonbun8658 : I don't mind improving a vehicle. In this case, I'd rather listen to the radio than wind noise.
Yes, like other car companies, Ford has made mistakes.
Many companies build in Mexico, and i have read reports that some Mexican built cars are better than the home country vehicles.
The 2.5 L has been used for decades.
      The 2 L is on it's 2nd Gen.
So hopefully they didn't try to save a few pennies this year.
I usually buy used vehicles. This truck impresses me for it's versatility, in a few years hopefully some will be on the used market.

@@justacinnamonbun8658 I 100% agree with that and to think Ford has never had a good track record on small vehicles, just look at the Pinto, Escort, and Focus. Along with the Contour and even the early years of the Fusion. Small vehicles and Ford do not go along.

Here's my take on it as an old mechanic. The Hybrids get them because the drivetrain is large and the E-CVT has very large and possibly noisy rotating masses in it. The Lariats get them because those old Boomers paid big money for those luxury packages on their "cheap" trucks. So, Ford makes them quieter to keep the old folks happy and coming back for more later. ;-) I see it as worth it. Easy enough to put in while I do the mudflaps and fluid film later. Dealer says it'll be a month before they come in. Demand is exceeding supply! You may have started something here. LOL

    • @sydecarnutz972

As it turns out Ford just leaves them out randomly when the part isn't available. I ordered them in and it took 2 months to arrive at the dealer. They said the parts are on limited availability!

For Jeep Wranglers, we have Quadratec, for which many parts as such are equal in quality but 1/2 the cost of the same Mopar part. An example being an optional hood lock for my Jeep Wrangler JKU, $57 vs $150, and equal in quality. I compared it with a friends, who had the Mopar part factory installed. I’m sure with the popularity of the Maverick and Bronco, similar will be available in a few years, maybe even via Quadratec ;). I will always go with Mopar for any drivetrain related parts though, never aftermarket.

  • @TheSchmed
    @TheSchmed 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

Seems more a safety than ergonomic issue for that part, water and road debris will get where it is not supposed to. I have a feeling the manufacturing site, I believe in Mexico, made an error. I can guarantee that they did not receive a shipment of those parts and were simply told to “move on” and complete the vehicles without them. Odd that FMC leaves out the “Vanity Cover”, that plastic cover for the motor. I notice no plastic covers on the Maverick and the Bronco, just seems odd seeing that menagerie of wires and hoses exposed when you lift the hood. I understand those covers are pretty much useless, functionally, but they add a bit of a finished look to the vehicle, seems a bit naked without it.

It may be better not to have it due to it allowing it to dry out

It would seem unlikely to make a significant difference in cabin noise, as the air flow would be mostly blocked with the door closed, and cabin noise is regulated more by insulation in the doors, dash/firewall, and structure.
It could minimize some noise coming from the engine bay to outside, but aside from that... 🤷🏼‍♂️

I definitely does some block road noise coming from the wheel wells but that's about it.

Waiting to see if you experience a marked difference? I have a XLT-FX4-4K tow on order.

Yes they did make a difference - they seems to filter out some of the higher frequency road noise

I would think it would be a fire hazard. Fuel line break and fire under hood may create a vacuum tunnel effect into the cabin. Something a fire engineer may want to look into. I'm thinking sorta of like fire blocks put in the studs of a wall.

Every Toyota I have ever owned has had foam there to close out the fender and door interface. In fact I have never owned a General Motors, Ford, Chrysler, Toyota or Saturn that you could see from the door opening to the engine compartment. All of them had some form of foam or plastic to close out any open area. Some of them the fender itself closed this area. Not having foam there is a terrible cost savings measure.
With sound if it is not a resonating issue then it is an all or nothing situation. You have to completely close out those area's. The foam is not properly installed any opening at all will be the same as not having the foam there at all. In this case we are not trying to deaden a surface to impact were even small amounts of damping make a big difference. In this case you are trying to make a wall to block the sounds path. A wall with a whole in it will not block air, sound, light, water etc...
