I built 12.5 48" wide wood foam and glass boat. Runs 15 empty. About 10 loaded. 6hp 4 stroke Suzuki. The whole boat is a cooler. Unsinkable. Cost me 1000 in materials 2 yrs ago. I was blown away how well it performs and fishes.
Back in my young buck days I had a 1436 with a 9.9 Evinrude on it great rig lot of great memories. On the bayous & lakes in North Louisiana back in 1977 when I was at BAFB haven't thought about that boat in years.
That’s a good boat to have, sounds like the motor trim level and or height may need adjusting. My 5hp 4strokke mercury pushes my boat better than the 4hp 2srroke.
If you are alone it's OK ! , but whit two people on the boat ... ?!? Put on this "jony" boat 6-8hp 2stroke (JohnnyRude or Yamaha , almost the same weight) , and feel the difference !

I have a 12/36 Lowe with a Johnson 4hp and mine won’t plane out at all the bow just sticks way up

Do you happen to know what size and what pitch the prop is ?
7-1/2 x 7 … it’s a Yamaha 4MSHR model motor
I you ran that far with your electric motor wide open you mite not make it back to the ramp. That little motor pusses your little boat pretty nice.
That almost happened, the motor prop picked up someone’s old line and sinker in the water near the end of trip.
That boat is moving pretty good for a 4 hp
