14ft Jon Boat Top Speed Test Mercury 6HP VS Suzuki 4HP Two Strokes

#jonboat #tinyboat #outboard Today we took our 1995 Landau 1436 with 1995 Mercury 6hp two stroke for a run. We compared top speeds to our last outboard the Suzuki 4hp two stroke. This little Mercury did great! Thanks for watching !

Thank you for the video! Honestly I am an old jon boat guy and your perfect blend would be the 8 hp. Weight is the same as the 6hp but a definite sweet spot. Also if you are still thinking 9.9 just get a 15hp. Exact same weight but huge difference in hp. Many times the carburetor is the only difference in 9.9 and 15 hp. Hope that helps but weight to hp ratio the 8 hp is definitely a sweet spot for that size boat.

I wonder if I can upgrade my 6hp to 8hp.. I had a similar year model 2.5hp a while back and the conversion to 3.5hp was easy. Just swapped the throttle valve and notched the engine cover to allow the throttle to open fully as the literal only difference between the two hp motors was the 2.5 carb was restricted to only open half way.

also I would agree with what you are saying about weight to power ratio because I have seen people stating top speeds with the 9.9 on a similar Jon boat and it’s not enough difference for me to warrant the hassle of repowering. I think this platform motor is 59lbs whereas the 9.9 is 74lbs

As far as I'm aware it's the 4,5, and 6 that are the same weight. the 9.9 and the 15 are the same

Nope. With a 1436 jon boat I would probably do 15hp minimum. 25 preferred.
