If you're experiencing bad hair loss, please keep reading, it's long but might be worth it. I hope this shampoo continues to exist for the rest of my life. I'm 43 and I had been experiencing a fair amount of hair loss for years (since my son was born), but nothing too extreme or noticeable. In 2020, it being the most stressful year of my entire life, I started losing a severe amount of hair (that's how my body manifests stress). To the point where it was definitely very noticeable (with balding primarily on the sides of my head toward my crown and in the front of my head, on my hairline, where it's almost impossible to hide). I tried so many different shampoos, home remedies, hair growth oils, egg masks, rice water, etc etc etc. You name it, I tried it. But nothing, nothing worked. One day I remembered the mother of my high school boyfriend, she had this beautiful long lush hair, at what I imagine was my age now and I remember her mentioning she only used Mane and Tail. So I decided to give it a shot. Almost immediately, after the 1st wash I noticed an improvement in the amount of hair the came out during/after my shower. After about a week of using this shampoo, the hair loss was pretty much gone. I could hardly believe it. But it held. A few months ago I went camping and decided to just use the same shampoo my son uses, I used it for 3 days and my hair fall started to increase. So that reinforced that it's this shampoo that prevents my hair loss. I can't say I don't lose hair anymore, I do, but it's really quite minimal; this shampoo has truly given me my life back. It's devastating, especially being a female, to experience balding. I want to mention that this balding is not hereditary, my 79 year old mom had more hair than I did at my worst towards the end of 2020 early 2021. I have never used the conditioner, only the shampoo. My hair is stronger, healthier and after several months of using this shampoo it's definitely fuller. I can't say this shampoo made my hair "re-grow", but it stopped it from falling out at such an alarming rate. So very slowly, my hair has been re-growing and filling in at a slow pace, but it's happening. I 100% recommend this shampoo to combat hair loss. I hope this helps someone.

In 2020, I was kidnapped.. and my hair was falling out a lot before it, but not nearly as bad until. The situation obviously has caused so many issues in my life since like even being too afraid to go out and check the mailbox, but then to add on balding to my hair as a young adult.. it's made things even worse in a way and I can't bare to look at myself. I have bad hair loss. So I'm using mane tail shampoo, for the 1st 2 washers my hair is still falling out more than before. But I will keep on using it and see what happens. I wash my hair once a week because of hair fall. What's the best amount of times a week should I wash my hair using the shampoo.
Wow, your story sounds incredible, almost to good to be true. Maybe you were just allergic to one or more substances contained in the other shampoos, otherwise it's very hard to explain (and frankly kind of unlikely) that such dramatic results would already have happened after the first wash..Anyways, congratulations 👍
Same here. Stress mixed with after covid hair loss It made me so sad to see so much hair falling out after washing my hair. I over heard my neighbors talking about their hair loss and they mentioned this shampoo helping their hair loss. So I bought it and here I am reading comments. As I started using it couple weeks ago.
I’m a black woman with natural curly hair and as a kid my grandmother used this on our hair all the time. As an adult, I’ve gone back to it and my hair has grown longer and my curls are more defined!

@@boorhyan5854 I recommend deva curl, that's what i use. I have never messed around with mane & tail, only ever used it a few times for my dogs. I believe mane & tail used to or still contain formaldehyde.. I try to be very careful with what I use in my hair. Do your own research though.
This shampoo and conditioner WAS originally for horses. BUT the people that had the horses noticed that in bathing their horses they would get product on their skin and hair. They liked what it done for them. Word of mouth, and it grew. Mane and tail is great. Both products . The hoofmaker product came about in the same way.
I have grown my hair down to my waist from a shaved head 4 times. I get it in big bottles at Walmart in the pet isle.
Mane n Tail is the truth. Been using it for many years. It will help your hair grow longer and stronger, but you should only use it once a week. You should always use their conditioner with their shampoo. It's a perfect match and will prevent any drying effects.

Mane N Tail has huge amounts of Horse Keratin in it. When using for horses it’s supposed to be diluted in a big bucket of water and then used on the horse. For people It has some different reactions and is suggested to not be diluted for our use. For me I have very dry and somewhat course and very curly hair. When using this for about 3 months my hair was rebuilt back (I had badly damaged hair from a stylist bleach job) and it became very soft and very moisturized and my curls came back even better and stronger. But after 3 months my hair became dry and frizzy. That’s because my hair was getting too much keratin at that point from it and I needed to switch. That’s probably why you had the dry non moisture reaction, cause your hair had enough keratin in its shafts already and giving it more caused that reaction. A lot of people have been seeing this effect. Truly this set is meant for hair that needs keratin so badly and has been stripped of it. Not hair that has lots of keratin already and doesn’t need it. I now use Virtue which is the only hair shampoo/conditioner product that uses Human Keratin. Everyone else uses horse and chicken keratin. They have two different lines, Recovery for people who need their hair to be recovered after like bleach jobs, constant heat styling, basically harsh styling routines and such in their hair and need that extra keratin. And forgot the name of the other line but it’s for every day use and for those that don’t need their hair rebuilt and don’t do much with their hair as for as styling, bleaching, etc and therefore don’t need the extra keratin. I would love to see you possibly use that brand and see you review it!
@Ivy Joy Tesiorna I was using it for 3 months max and then switch it off and then switch back as needed. But if it’s feels like my hair is drying out anytime I switch immediately. That’s how I know my hair doesn’t need it anymore. But I’m currently living in Australia and I don’t think they sell Mane N Tail here where I’m at. So I use Virtue which is expensive but it’s the only shampoo and conditioner brand that uses human Keratin and not chicken or horse and so far it has done wonders as well. Works faster to heal my hair and it’s supposed to help with hair regrowth because is uses real human keratin and not chicken or horse. I feel like mane n tail is your cheaper option but works if you constantly need a shampoo and conditioner that repairs your hair if you do harsh styling and bleach jobs etc. Virtue would be if you have the money to buy it.
@Ivy Joy Tesiorna oh well I actually wash my hair almost daily. Cause I have extremely oily hair and very curly and I’m a bit obsessed with being clean. But I would say if you’re a normal person that’s not super oily and not as obsessed with clean I was say it’s good to use it every other wash or so. However your wash routine goes it how you should use it

Yup, so I know the story about the "animal use/human use" directions, as my family used to have horses. The reason it says "directions for animal use" on the back is because it was originally formulated specifically for horses, and people still use it to bathe horses. For a long time it wasn't meant for humans, but a lot of people used it in place of normal shampoo anyway because it made their horse's coats so sleek and pretty that they thought "why not?" Eventually the company that produces it just started selling it as shampoo as well. However, make sure you get the stuff that doesn't have benzalkonium chloride in it (some main n tail has it, some doesn't, you just have to check the back), because that's toxic to the environment, and it will really dry out your scalp, as well as cause eye irritation if you get it in your eyes.
I used this for 25 years. I was a hairdresser back in the 80s and 90s and customers would ask what I used. I would say " you know, that horsey shampoo". They thought I was joking. During menopause Thu my hair really started falling out so it's been like 10 years trying to find something that will help. Maybe I'll just go back to my horsey shampoo!!l lol
I used this when I was in my 20's and remember stopping because it made my hair so thick to handle my short cut, relaxed hair styles. Now I'm 50 natural hair, no Relaxer. And my hair is thin. My daughter and I have been doing the natural hair process but our hair is thin. She decided to use this and I said I would try also. We are wanting thickness and hair length. So just did my first shampoo with molasses, mixed together. And Design Conditioner. And I really liked how my hair felt after. The process has my curls really defined. I will continue to use. Hoping to see good results
I like how it penetrates the scalp. My Mom uses it. She told me my grandma uses. It's soft and easily smelling. Just turned 40.
I was in a wedding and the lady that did me and kids hair used this and i fell in love. Went and bought the deep moisturizing shampoo and conditioner yesterday. The conditioner surprised me how moisturizing it was. I'm sold

I used this all the time as a kid (mane and tail) 🐎 I've been co sidering buying it again after all these yrs to see how my hair would react. I always had long healthy hair as a kid. Now it's kinda bland and limp. I have thick and heavy hair. Low wave. Getting better at nit washing as much and that has helped.
Horse products are generally expensive, don't think otherwise. I'm a horse person and I recently decided to try these products and I am very happy with them. I can't stand strong smells, Mane and Tail just smells.. clean, like you said, like soap from the 80s. Feels very mild, like baby shampoo. And my hair is really soft afterwards. I have long hair and I've been struggling with knots and tangles a lot, I've tried many different products to help with this but I have to say, Mane and Tail detangler actually really works!
If you find it too drying, mix it 50/50 with a moisterizing shampoo. This way you get the strenght, shine and volume without the drying. This is how I use it. Personally also feel that it helps with losing less hair and growing my hair longer than before I used it.

You hair is dry because you washed your hair 3 times in a week. You shouldn’t be washing you hair this much because it does make your hair dry !!!!
I tried Man & Tail probably in my twenties, and have switched off of it a few times, but I keep coming back to it. I have fairly curly Type 3 hair, and if I'm out in the world, I pretty much need to use product in my hair before I leave the house. Little gel, little hairspray, leave-in conditioner, silicon anti-frizz serum, and that gets my hair looking limp and horrible in a couple days. Mane & Tail makes my hair feel brand new every time I shampoo. You can sort of FEEL that all the gunk is gone in two quick and painless lather/repeat cycles. I don't use the Mane & Tail conditioner, though, I found it really doesn't make my hair feel hydrated and soft like say, Pantene, Aussie, even Tresseme. I hate to spend a fortune on Shampoo and conditioner, and M&T is a really good deal, it doesn't take much to get your hair squeaky clean.
And yes, Man & Tail is in fact, horse shampoo. When it first came out, you had to buy it in like 1 or 5 gallon buckets. I remember when I was little, seeing it on the news as a "beauty secret".
As far as I recall, Mane And Tail was a horse shampoo originally. People with horses started using it and talking about it. Then the maker started selling small and more expensive bottles for humans.

Hey guys I found when using this shampoo I find it is better to use a more richer conditioner rather then the matching one to get the full benefits of the shampoo. I used in particular the rich moisture from tresemmé conditioner and it worked a dream. I used it for more hair growth which it helped with rather then hair loss and it worked. I’ve tried both ways for so speaking from my own experience but it’s important to remember everyone can have different experiences☺️. Just for reference I have thin hair but have a lot of it but I try to turn to clean beauty Maui products are pretty good to 👍
I use it when I was in the Philippines it makes my hair smooth, silky and super straight also smells good 💕 I'm gonna use it again..

Just used it for the 1st time and I used the leave in and the shine serum as well. it’s still pretty dry so I see what ur saying but I wanted to try the full line to see the benefits. Nothing makes ur hair grow faster u just need to keep it moisturized so it doesn’t break
When my hair is weak I use for a few months I also apply to my ends I have lots of waves some curls and it helps a lot. then swap or it will get dry. And we used with our horses. We didn’t travel with ours but our neighbors did. Great on the road to carry less bottles. Use for the horses and yourself.

With the horse you gotta water it down though by adding some shampoo to a bucket and mixing it up and applying the mixture to the horse with a sponge (my sister just buys the one liter bottles for her horse). Some people may apply shampoo full strength to the horse, ive just never heard of it

Yes I love Mane N Tail original shampo and conditioner makes my hair thicker, fuller, and grows. I was one that used other products and oils and I suffered hair loss and breakage so went back to my oldies products and it works for my ethnic cruly wavy 22 inch one layer hair. I am 33 years old and this works for me, I need to regrow my hair and hair line.

If anything it being safe for animals makes me feel better about using it on myself because shampoos for animals work so much better in my opinion

I think it dried out your hair because you used it too often. Because like you said it does CLEAN your hair very well! So the natural oils from your scalp never got a chance to replenish your hair. I found with this product I can go 4 even 5 days without washing my hair!! The truth is I have gone 6 or 7 before and use a cute baseball hat!! I was told years ago, the natural oils from your own scalp is the best conditioner there is, so let it do it's job! Human hair was never meant to be washed every day or 2!
*** I should note that in the summer when it's super hot and sweaty and I'm washing my hair more often, I do switch to a regular human moisturizing shampoo because I'm washing my hair every 2-3 days!
My hair is long, straight, color treated and maybe a tiny bit on the dry side. I use more of 2 quarter size dollops not dime size like you Shrimpy . And twice that of the conditioner, because my hair is so long, almost to my butt. I also use spray-on "12 Benefits" before I blow dry, to keep my hair from breaking when I'm first brushing it out and blow drying it.
My hair grows super fast and it's crazy healthy! I gets compliments on my hair all the time! It's by far my best attribute. (Wish I could say that about my butt! LOL)
Like I said, I use this on my DOG as well. I have a Shih-tzu with medium length hair, I use both shampoo & conditioner and bath her about every 10 days. Her coat is gorgeous!

How long did u use the shampoo and conditioner? Every twice a week ever month? Since it can be drying I don’t want to dry out my hair
It is made for horses! I have used it on mine for years. People noticed what it did for their horses and tried it for thier own hair. It has become more popular so the company started making smaller bottles.

Came to say the same thing lol. And it used to smell awful, they started adding scent to it for humans.
The original mane and tail shampoo and conditioner dried out my hair. Resulted in super greasy roots and dry ends. The deep moister mane and tail products made my hair super greasy and didn’t really make my hair feel clean even at the ends. But the herbal gro mane and tail shampoo and conditioner was the perfect balance for me. Hair felt clean and not dry at the ends and not greasy at the roots. I have really bad hair fall out due to being postpartum and the herbal gro products really made a difference in just a couple weeks of using it. No more giant hair balls clogging the drain in the shower.

Did my first hair wash with this shampoo.. My hair feels soft and manageable... I did do a warm pure coconut oil massage half hour before washing my hair but I have been doing this since long time which is healthy for scalp ans hair but shampoos seemed to dry my hair... But this shampoo didn't dry my hair... I did 3 washes with little amount of shampoo each time (1tsp) as i had too much coconut oil in my hair.
So far its all good. Will keep updating here after every wash. Planning on doing 1 wash with this shampoo each week. I use homemade soapnut shampoo other days when I haven't oiled my hair.
Yes I used it first time and made frizzy but a really clean shiny look hope it makes my hair grow x
my hair loved this shampoo and conditioner but it makde my scalp flare up and gave me the worst dandruff i had ever experienced, but on the bright side it works super well for my dog's skin and coat, it works even better than the chi pet shampoos.

I used this shampoo and conditioner as a kid, I had really long beautiful hair.
I’m a curly girl with type 4 high porosity hair. I tried every product and remedy and could not retain moisture in my hair and it was breaking off so much. I remembered I used to use the conditioner as a kid and i picked some up and omg the difference is 180. It’s the only thing I’m using from now on

I remember horse shampoo my dad use to buy me & my sister it was from the vet it was green & smelled so good it was a little bottle but it made our hair beautiful thick long then years later they stop making that one then come out with mane & tale.

I use the 12 oz on myself and my horse and my dogs it's basically head shoulders and everything else you want to wash but the 12 oz bottle well wash 3 of my horses
They do sell larger sizes at places like Rural King. My understanding is it originated as a horse shampoo.
Mane n tail has for a long time been used on horses, its the same strength as that formula. Hence the name

It is good, Mane n Tail. It was able to get through my very tangled hair when I used it and it was so smooth.

You can buy this stuff at walmart. Old people use it.
I can only use a small selection of shampoos(only 3 work with my scalp) I have mild seborrheic dermatitis if I use any different shampoos or alot of hair products on my scalp I get flare up this is my go to for the price also a bonus I use it on my dog & cat(my cat is fat she gets dandruff bc she can't reach everywhere so I gotta help her) the shampoo works good for her to my dad is the one that got me into this shampoo
I used to use this product for a while because my Filipino uncle said, “do you ever see a balding horse?” Haha. I used to buy it by the gallon from a horse feed store. When dealing with animal coats, especially horses, you want a dry coat as it prevents itchiness.

I had curlyish hair as an infant I was surprised to see my baby pictures. Then O had straight hair with 3 large bumps in the middle of my hair. My baby hairs have always grown curly! In middle school during the mouse and scrunch years lol my hair would get extremely curly and girls would ask me if I naturally had curly hair. Years later (I am 28 now) I tried this shampoo because I ran out and this is what I use on my dog lol. It was just there sitting in my shower so I used it. Next day when my hair dried completley it was very wavy. I didnt even use conditioner. My hair looked so pretty! So now I went out and I will use this continuously for a year and not straighten my hair. Ill see what it does.
I seen slightly ugly shampoo bottles too that have been a huge life saver for my hair. Its from mastoora beauty shop lol amazing hair loss shampoo and hair repair haha

I enjoyed your review, Mane and Tail started out as a horse shampoo and still is.
We humans would love for our hair to be as long and shiny as a horse so then we started using it and the company noticed.
Many of the Mane and Tail products come in containers as large as a gallon and horse owners dilute the products when washing their animal/pets. This brand is used heavily by us in the south of the U.S. It has a great reputation both in the home and in the stables.
I use AVEDA for years and I noticed a little hair loss. I'm using mane n tail to give a break to my hair.
can it thicken or volumize hair? coz I have thin hair and is it ok to use the shampoo and conditioner everyday
Mane & Tail was originally used to wash horse manes and tails to keep them clean and manageable.
You are right this is a very drying shampoo and when the hair is dry the hair strands are a lot thicker which causes the thickness and extra volume. This is a great shampoo and conditioner but I use a deep conditioning mask with it. I use oils with silicones in them so I enjoy this shampoo because it removes the product from my hair and allows me to go longer without washing. A clean scalp means healthy hair , we just have to use extra products to help keep it moisturized from this shampoo

What oils?
I used it in 2018 it worked fir for me with hair growth n it didn't fall out I stopped in 2019 and found something better I just used mane and tail today and I experienced hair loss and my scalp was super dry and in pain lol never again 🤷🏻♀️😭
You can always use a leave in conditioner or oil afterwards. When I did the 6 month mane and tail challenge... It made hair grow nearly 6 inches and I have straight thin hair about your length ... And it works... It doesn't stop hairloss but it does help your hair grow if you stick with it you will see a difference. You can use john frieda DE-FRIZZ OIL

I like the Herbal Gro line by Mane N Tail. The original makes my hair break, and fall out like crazy. Especially now that I'm 30 and my hair has gone from super thick to medium fine over the years. I also like to alternate between different shampoos and conditioners like OGX and Redken.
There was a lawsuit against OGX because people said it made their hair fall out.
I stopped using conditioner and just use shampoo, the conditioner was making my hair fall when i showered and brushed. When i used conditioner it would strip my hair of its natrual oils. Now i just use shampoo and Garnier Fructis sleek and shine to brush my hair and now my hair is in its best condition.

i use it for my hair lol. i also use it to bathe my pigs, goats and cows lol. i started using it bc i was out of shampoo and needed to clean my hair.
Funny how it was really designed for horses but works very well on humans. I definitely recommend mane n tail for hairs of all types.

Hi! Well luckily no extra wrinkles or aging for me. Some people are surprised at my age and think I'm younger in real life (or they're just flattering me, who knows! Haha!). Good idea, I'll keep that in mind for a video! :)

My hair is super dry and so is my scalp but this shampoo works wonders for my hair. I bareky diy my hair(probably have died it only 3 times) i let my hair air dry, and i never straighten it. My hair is super thick and long and gets on my nerves but when i use this shampoo i feel as if my hair is much more easier to handle. Lol. If that makes any sense

Soo my sister use to struggle with Bleached blonde Dyed Hair that was Short and broken and Dry! ..it would not grow and fell out a bit, mane and tail Sham and Condi has Saved her hair ! It helped it so much. So I do recommend trying it out
I had super bleached hair and main and tail cause it has loads of keratin made my hair regrow back perfectly and my curls came back more than before. I have a comment on this somewhere above or so that explains it all.
So I just got the conditioner today and I'm wondering if I also need the shampoo in order for this to work. I use a different brand for shampoo but I can buy the mane n' tail shampoo one if its necessary.
I think you can just in case to get the full effort. if u don’t like the conditioner get another good conditioner from another brand :)

People need to understand that shampooing your hair alone dries it out. Thats why you shampoo, condition and then add moisturizer or oil or something after. Air drying hair makes it prone to frizzing.
True but this shampoo is drying. Trust me, I test WAY MORE than the average person.
Remember this is horse shampoo so it has way more minerals and a higher dose of Keratin in it. So if you use it too much it will cause damage to your hair.

I think your hair looks great!,lm picking some of this up soon,l wouldn't use it alot just once in awhile,.for a good.cleaning and shine, l use to wash my hair alot,now l just wash once In awhile and let it air dry when lm not going out and have somewhere to go.....l feel that the less.heat and blow drying you do.,the better for your hair.....as lm getting older,l want.to do less......🙂

It is a horse shampoo so of course it has directions for horses. I'd find it weirder than it has human directions
It was originally for horses. I used it on my horses in the 80s. Eventually, they started marketing it to women. I always found it too heavy.
