Politely, I ordered mine BECAUSE of your original review… 30 work minutes later and my upper stitching became frayed on every corner. My welt join (inside heel transition) had a 1/4” wide gap in the heel leather compared to the arch area, and when I asked White’s about it (with a picture attached) they just told me this was “normal”
Since then I have not been able to reattach this arrangement of leather permanently for more than 48 hours, even when cleaned, glued, clamped, and left alone for a full day in a temperature/humidity controlled room (in my wood shop wood stock area)
After 1500 hours, several areas have come unstitched, I’ve either saddled stitch repaired those areas myself or gotten annoyed and superglued over the frays…
The upper leather has broken in BEAUTIFULLY, and hugs my feet LITERALLY perfectly, however the issue with the stitching and my right footbed being completely compromised to any sort of water resistance because of that gap in the sole-leather drives me insane when thinking of how I spent $350 on them.
For that same price, I’m the PROUD owner of custom Jim Green AR8’s (even bought 3 of them), and for CHEAPER the Jim Green AR’s (3 of them), the fudge and the black barefoot African Troopers, the RUGGED African Toopers, and now both pairs of the nee 719’s.
I LOVE their mission statement and everything they’ve done for conservation and job provision.
I have 1 other pair of MITUSA boots, which is an incredible pair of JK bison boots, and they’ve been fantastic to me!….
Right now Nick’s seems like tooooooo much of a trigger pull for me, but I love that they back their boots with repairs!…
Before anyone calls me a fanboy collector, I own 2 businesses and depending on where in the country my work week takes me, I absolutely have used and abused every pair of boots I own… bit awkward but true to say, the South Africans so far have absolutely cornered the market as far as value for money and at an easily accessible price point! AND because of their soling method of strictly glue-only, the boots are incredibly easy to resole should you need.
I love the look of my White’s all day tho, it will be interesting to see JG’s Moc Toe I’ve heard rumors of 👀

I had the same experience with Grant Stone. The speed hooks, on my then new Brass Boots, loosely spun around. I would have to make sure the speed hooks were oriented correctly to lace the boots. Obvious to anyone it was a flaw in an almost $400 boot. Contacted their customer service thinking they would repair them or at least stand behind their product. Said it was normal.

I watched your previous video on the Perry boots. I ordered the 8” Perry hybrid when they were on sale. Got them in about 3 weeks. They are good boots and plenty of room. I wear an 11D in all other shoes. Ordered 10.5D from Whites and feel I could have gone to 10. But I think a positive of 10.5 is that I’m able to put in a Birkenstock insole, it’s the 2 piece insole (cork heel and blue insole). Love the boots but on the left boot the first 2 eyelets are not straight across from each other and once laced, looks awkward. Character I guess.

I work 4-16s and an 8 for 9 months a year working on airfield lighting and signs wearing the Perry select. For the $ i choose them over the Thorogoods I've worn for the previous 20 some years. Other than the toes wearing through they hold up great. The Thorogood wedge sole lasts longer and seems lighter but the Vibram on the Perry's grips better especially climbing steel.

    • @danichicago9140
      @danichicago9140 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

@NoNameNo.5 negative. That's all that has worn out other than the sole. The Thorogoods welt cracks stitches come loose and counter loses structure. They are both great but for the extra $ for my use its worth it. No toes hold up to runway aggregate. Tough toe glue on toe protectors even Keen rubber toes are eaten fast working on your knees.

My natural shoe size is a 10EE. That's what I wear in Vans, Chippewas, Solomon. Have worn a 9.5EE Perry for the past month or so. Wish I sized down another half size. I have quite a bit of heel slip unless they're laced constrictively tight. Live and learn! Hope my 9EE MP Shermans fit better whenever those are finished

I had a maverick. With the AWD model I only averaged 25.8 mpg and I do a looooootttt of highway. It was small (that's a good and bad thing depending on the day) and didn't have a ton of passenger space or cargo space, and had some quality issues. I traded it in with 30k or so on it for a silverado with the 2.7l engine. I got 22 mpg average after 19k miles. I don't think the maverick is the best truck for most people, and the way they're priced these days, I don't think they're worth the price for most people either. Anyways, lets see those boots.
PS. it's absolutely not yellow, that's an insane take.

The Merramac polyurethane wedge sole lasts longer, no doubt longer than the Vibram wedge. I own the Whites Fultons - same as the regular Perry without the wedge sole - instead it uses a Vibram honey lug and it’s probably the most versatile long lasting outsole I’ve worn. The last is the same as the Perry but NOT the same as the Perry Selects. The Perry Selects have more arch support, but the work leather on the regular Perry/Fultons is darn tough. Quality control? Not so great.

I have two pairs so far. I have a pair of Patriots that I ordered last year and this year they ran a black Friday sale and picked a pair of T-2 Highlander soft toes. The Patriots started out as not my favorite boots. They pinched my ankles pretty badly and were very stiff. Yes, they are PNW boots, but it felt excessive. I put up with it for a while before I asked what I was doing wrong. Well, I put a thicker insole in them, that was my mistake. I also started using a 50/50 solution of water and alcohol in the instructions which I had not done. After I took it out and just used a slightly thicker sock and sprayed then down a few times they worked out much better. So far the T-2's are pretty much breaking in easier, but that might be just me used to it. Anyway, would I buy another pair, yep, without hesitation. I actually think the Patriots are the best bang for your buck heavy duty boot on the market. For reference I work in the forestry and wood products business and cut firewood on the side. They are holding up wonderfully,

It's a Orange truck. But, the main question is? How in Hell do you fit in a subcompact truck? My Perry selects don't look bad compared to Jay's. I wear mine in the warehouse and driving my truck. No brake in at all. I have had mine for 7 months. The sole shows a little wear, but should last another year. I did get 4 years out of my Danner Bull Run before they needed a rebuild. But, Whites are my main boot.

Most of the guys who do boot reviews don't seem t' know much about boots except for whether they experienced critical failure or overt discomfort after working in them, but they also don't seem t' rotate their boots much daily or weekly [or monthly] and then bewildered when they show "premature" wear, etc. Still largely flying blind trying to navigate ACTUAL best value for quality overall, so neigh sure why this almost an hour long if will be more useful than some others....................

What if you can do large scale long term boot testing? I bet your audience would consistently fill out surveys about boots for you, especially if there was any incentive for them, like perhaps a new pair of boots that they can test for you????? Hmmmmmmm? $300 boots with a commitment to answer any surveys you send about them say for 3 years, and if you fail to answer too many surveys, you charge for the boots. I’d do a survey every day for you for 3 years for a free pair of boots. Think about it. Just think about it.
