I remember in her past, she argued that no plan should start with sacrifice in mind while her friend said sacrifices should be expected. Cut to her and Bell trapped in the deep floors and from the start she planned on sacrificing herself while Bell wasn't willing to let anyone die. It was a great arc that for me, catapulted Ryuu to "best girl" status.
I paused at 0:26 to write this. Oh man, you were right, definitely gonna enjoy this one. Ryu has really become my favorite character in the story, what cemented that was when she was ready to sacrifice herself in the deep floors to make sure Bell would survive both out of love for him, and guilt for bringing him into her problems as well as survivors guilt. Watching, and reading how she went from a senior mentor, to falling for him, to becoming equals with him (in respect, their strength still aren’t quite equal) was incredible.
@ I know!!!!! It’s such a beautiful moment for both characters exemplifying who they are at their core. Ryu and her self-sacrifice and Bell working to exemplify and make his ideals a reality, which for those in the know, is exactly what a hero is.
Yes this is a perfect analysis of Ryuu. She views herself as a failure since the fall of the Astrea familia. So seeing this video makes me happy to see. As I am recapping previous episodes of danmachi and the light novel.
@gallenberger1 yes exactly. Honestly it's a crime that there wasn't. After delving into the light novels I am liking the lore of the danmachi characters.

@@gallenberger1 I am too, Episode Ryu Volume 2 FINALLY comes out in the US this spring, and based on the rough translations there are some really wholesome moments in it. Ryuu had it rough the way she tried to redeem herself by sacrificing herself to help bell kind of heroic but tragic at the same time, its like she sees herself as a failure, she's my favorite character
The goat's back and he made a video about my fav danmachi character🙏 You've just earned a sub, also as promised I took up the unnamed memory manga and it's worth the read.
Videos like this show that DanMachi is a lot more, than what meets the public eye as a whole. A lot see DanMachi as yet another harem power fantasy like story, but there are so many excellent characters build upon layers of lore and explanations, which makes DanMachi as a whole heartfelt. Ryuu is one of those characters I kinda liked right from the start. But yeah. I fancy Ais, so throw in another rather cool blonde girl that happens to be an elf and I'll gladly bite the hook. To top it off, let Saori Hayami lend her voice - now you have my undivided attention. Ryuu was always a kinda mysterious character and had a lot of "mentor energy" for me. Like how she watches over Bell and helps him out, which is why season 4 was very pleasant zu watch, because Bell could always rely on her when he needed her help and it was now his turn to repay this debt to her. And repaying he did - with interest. The series always hinted towards her darker past, which is why season 4 was hype right from it's inception because we wanted to get to know her. Who is this mysterious strong elven girl? Someone who always rebuked against the naive nature our hero wears on his sleve? What could have possibly happend to her, what kind of experiences did she have to endure to forge such a cold nature towards adventurers as a whole? With her past laid bare for us to witness we were hit with something I really did not expect. Ryuu was outspoken, open and a lot like Bell in the past. Which makes her relationship to Bell a lot more meaningful because we can now see her in pursuit of shielding Bell from experiencing what she experienced herself. We can now see why she would join the familia war game with the Hestia familia at stake, because she knows the pain of losing your place where you belong. We can see her reason for diving into the dungeon for a rescue mission or for cleansing the name of Bell of any stain his name might have taken on. Ryuu has a lot of common with our main protagonist and her rather distant relationship she maintained throughout the series is suddenly rather personal, which makes the whole arc about Bell saving Ryuu from herself also very intimate for her. She let go of her own idealistic pursuits and gave in to Kaguyas views, which is why I'm really glad you mentioned her weapons for her revenge arc as a stand in for this. But she never really gave in, which is why she is seemingly running towards death itself, because her actions are at odds with what she truely believes in and values. Bell reignites those feelings in her. Bell shines as an example of hope, that she wasn't in the wrong. This makes all of it so endearing to me, especially with the finale of Ryuu being able to exact revenge upon the Juggernaught where her survival had meaning in the end and she was able to find closure for this hauting past. It is yet another example of what a hero ought to be: Inspiration. To give a reason to act, a reason to resist, a reason to cling to hope for another day. This is why I really like how Ryuu developed feelings for Bell from a very natural relationship they shared. Before she did not consider any of this, because she was out front trying to keep him out of harms way just to be met with the realization, that he is also out there to keep her out of harms way - at any cost. Without her view of her need to protect him, she started to see him as a mutual partner her feelings are starting to blossom. And I am all in for it, because I wish a girl like her all the happiness she can gather from the bottom of my heart. She is a tragic character which is why there is nothing more to wish for, than her tragedy to find it's end and and be overwhelmed with happiness instead. But Ais still comes first and I am thrilled and eager to see her time on the screen to shine as well. If this is how DanMachi treats a rather secondary character, I'm barely able to contain my excitement in anticipation what a core main character has to offer in this department.
Yea season 4 is awesome. It felt like there was a "deep meaning" to the season. Not only that but a threat of danger as well so much things happened I enjoyed it (just like season 5 RIGHT NOW). Danmachi definitely turned it around in season 3. From exploring the world and its characters (seasons 1 and 2) to twists, turns and challenges (season 3,4,5) its amazing how this anime evolved. I really enjoyed this ryu storyline it was just pure cinema seeing and watching this for the first time. I have no words for Danmachi but wonderfully entertaining . Definitely one of my fav animes that ARENT in the spotlight all the time.
Let's be honest, she's best girl in a series with a lot of great ones. It's been a great process for Bell, from Heastia, the failure of a goddess who he chooses as much as she chooses him, to Lil Bit, who he saves directly after her betrayal, to our failed prostitute who so loathes herself (incorrectly) and fears her impact on a hero and Bell says "nuts to that" to Viene, the monster who he embraces at the drop of a tear to Ryuu...the ultimate example of his redemptive care and heroic beliefs/actions. And if you read the LN, him saving Syr from her wounds instead of letting her die when she really does deserve it for what she did...the 14 year old boy with maybe 4 months now of being an adventure just keeps being the hero we need. But, sorry author, you made the non love interest the best character of all the girls he meets in a dungeon.
Astrea familia was one of the best familias in all Orario and Astrea is legit the best godess in all danmachi lore,I think Astraea records light novel side story was perhaps my favorite of all danmachi,it has so much philosophy in it and it's verry good

I agree but disagree, don’t get me wrong, Ryu and Bell have definitely had more moments in the story so far, but Aiz is the sole reason the story even exists. It all starts with Aiz, and I believe that it will all end with Aiz. Not to say that after Bell achieves his goal of standing beside her, that things won’t progress further than what they are. However, if season 5 proves anything, it’s that Bell is single mindlessly working towards making his goal and dreams a reality. He knows that his dream and goals will hurt those that care about him, but he must continue nevertheless.
@@Randompersonnumberinfinite See you might not have realized it, but shed a spot light on why I am so critical of the Ais and Bell romance. By waiting so long to tell that part of the story their relationships feels unnatural and unearned. As if it is happening only because the story needs it to happen. Otherwise the story just falls apart. Even if you take out any and all romantic feelings between Ryu and Bell. You still have a strong relationship based on trust and respect. I friendship that cannot be broken and has now become one of the central parts of the series. Here is my biggest concern. All of the beautiful character development discussed in this video will just be pushed aside and forgotten about, because the author needs to spend all his time making Bell and Ais happen. Honestly it would be tragic to just throw all that away and not give the character something significant to do in end of the series.
