I disagree that no one actually sees Bell as one of those hero type anime characters although I also disagree with you about Bell not being annoying Bell is very annoying and the reason for it is because the character seems to do a restart and character development every season so far thankfully the exception of season 5 character does come across as a bit whiny and wimpy that is annoying in the beginning but it really gets the security to be annoying it's just that he feels like he's restarting his personality and lessons every season however a good remedy for this for season 5 season 5 is putting this character to the ringer so does season 4 by the way everything that character has gone through finally seems to be going through development the early first three seasons felt like he was just restarting his personality and I wasn't getting anywhere and also how the heck is this guy still 14 could have swore like season 2 or 3 Series a year since he got himself his new name and everything or was that a dub only mistake I don't know anyway yes the character of himself is extremely annoying when it comes to the first two seasons he does have some whiny traits that come across as what a freaking wimp I'm looking forward to seeing the characters development however as he does finally seem like he's getting actual care development and know I know you're probably argue that he was getting character developments in season 1 but really he did for the throughout the season and then if like restarts and season 2 and then it again in season 3 and the character is overly oblivious I know every main character is oblivious that's a generally oblivious but that is generally an annoying trait for every main character every main character and this was done with voice text so if you have a problem with the way I text fuck off if you don't well like your video anyway Belle may not be my favorite character but the show overall is very good and I would love to see what the character becomes down the road
Bell on season 3 made me tear up a hero who stood by the innocence even though the world hate him for it. Him protecting Wiene was the most heroic act ive seen in awhile
@@gallenberger1 His actions even changed Finn from the Loki familia. Gros sparing Bell changed Finn’s outlook and he changes from an artificial hero to a heretical hero like the Argonaut.
Danmachi has been absolutely killing it with Bell's story so far. They've taken little, weak Bell through so much. And we were there every step of the way. Every challenge brings something new. I cant wait to see what Bell's next "Adventure" brings.
For a perfect way of putting it... yeah, it's not every day you encounter a hero straight from myths and legends. I'm only surprised that his story didn't end simply because he didn't get a woman yet and that a woman isn't that much of a plot as compared to ancient myths and legends
The light novel is absolutely insane in danmachi,it has by far the best cast I have ever seen in fiction with dozens of verry well written characters, character growth and backgrounds and the world is not just about bell, the main character,he is only the catalyst, the center of inspiration for all the world to grow stronger and evolve and I really like his determination,he's not some half baked hero who fights today, leaves the others on their own tommorow,if he is there,he will fight till the bitter end,he never gave up on his hypocritical determination and that's what makes him such a good ,,hero"

@@lupo_mangiafrutta You can start from the freya arc onward and then read Sword oratoria,it's a spinoff of the main series and it shows the world of danmachi from Loki Familia and Ais perspective,it's a really solid novel as well and it shows you a lot more about the world of Danmachi, then there are some separate novels about the past of Orario and the characters we see in the plot, such as Freya chronicles(which as the name suggests it's about Freya familia),there are 2 volumes about Lyuu and the Benevolent Mistress and then there is Astraea Records, a thrilogy about the events of 7 years ago,in the Dark age of Orario(it's a really solid read as you see a verry different and cruel side of Orario that the main series doesn't quite show you) and if you are a hardcore fan there used to be a game made for danmachi called Memoria Freese and it contains a lot of extra plot about Orario, the gods, the past of Orario, events in Orario, the outside world, even the mythology from danmachi verse like the Myth of Argonaut and a ton more, but this game has been discontinued, though you can find all of its storyline on TH-cam in the form of a visual novel(it has text and voice over as well as some visuals)
@@hellfrozen3678 thanks super detailed! should i star from novel 16 or 17? season 5 should stop at novel 17 from what i can understand, i think i'll start with the 16th and then go from there...
Slight correction@ 1:00: Liaris Freese helps Bell's stats grow very fast, but one of the cool things about Danmachi is that levelling up requires both high enough stats and performing some sort of significant feat. So you could say it helps him meet the requirements to level up, but the onus is still on Bell actually being epic to level up. It also isn't a constant - its effectiveness is based on his feelings for Ais - and it's not permanent - if he had given in to Freya he would have lost it.
Its my favorite anime power system, but the level up thing is what kills it. Most of the Hestia familia can't keep up because of how hard it is to get stronger in Danmachi. Welf is a great example, he should be level 3 but isn't
So glad this series is getting love. And one of my favorite things about bell is that he’s a hypocrite. He’ll cause others pain with his decisions, but will still help them, in his own way.
@@gallenberger1The shows ability to not only test Bell through feats of strength, but psychologically as well. Given the shows name/basic premise, it got ALOT deeper than I was expecting.
The wiene scene was the one that sold me to danmachi. I saw it in a clip, understood it and immediately watched danmachi. I think what sold me is his facial expression. The looks of terror from his face showing that he knows the consequences of his heroic actions. If he does it without consequences, i probably won't even try it due to the title. But, the resolve he has despite what will happen to his reputation moving forward is very inspiring. Their portrayal of heroism is idealistic but also realistic.
@@MysticAstrea 100%. It's the mental struggle of it all that adds so much. If it wasn't hard, it wouldn't feel the same. I'm so glad you see it this way too
Technically the author did said he regreted naming the series "Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon?". Plus the harem tag isn't helping at all, due to this issues it tends to make wrong empressions to casual anime watchers.
finally someone who knows. Yeah. The real title is "Is it wrong to seek a chance encounter in a dungeon?" (Familia Myth is another title too.) After meeting Ais, Bell answered the title with "I was not wrong". In volume 17 after Ais saved Bell emotionally, Bell told her that "It wasn't wrong to meet you at all". Another title drop. Anime skipped that line in s5 episode 8.
Bell also isn’t the generic scared but forced to lock in character or fearless mc. He is perceived as a fearless mc for his action but his inner monologue proves otherwise. In the first Minotaur fight in the LN his internal monologue was him getting mad at Lily and wanting to run away but his values kept him from doing so and to go and defend her until she can make a run for it and he just wanted to escape the whole time. The only reason he even went to finally go for an actual fight/kill the Minotaur was because he didn’t want to be the scared mc and he wasn’t forced to be courageous he wanted it himself and he wanted to face his challenges head on instead of running away and was rewarded with a level up. Even now he’s still not fearless he can feel fear shown in s4 and in the deep floors but his values keep him from doing so and that’s what makes him so great that he chooses to face his fears instead of running away even if he’s genuinely scared to do so.
Most main conflicts are physical so it’s really impressed me seeing bell under go emotional challenges. Willing to forsake everyone to stand by his ideals.
I think, from the second season onward, Danmachi got a lot better in terms of story and plot. It's not just Belle constantly pursuing Aiz, it also challenged his believe, his moral, etc. With Haruhime, he gets challenged wether or not he should get involve, it's not just logical reasoning(getting his familia into another war with bigger familia), but also a personal reason(heroes don't save those impure such as Haruhime). With the intelligent monsters(forgot what they're called) he is also faced with 2 sides of reasoning not to follow through, potentially getting cast out from the city and can monster really live equal to humans. With season 4, it have similar problem with Haruhime, but it views it from a different perspective in that he already knew the elf(forgot her name too). It actually surprises me that he didn't just gets super OP from the unique skill. He is growing really fast by the world's standard, but is nowhere near the top. It's like if a kid learns how to walk within a year, he is nowhere near Einstein level genius or Mike Tyson level strong, but he is growing fastly. Also, the fact that the challenge wasn't just physical, but also ideological, meant that there's an extra layer of conflict. Like, in Lily's case, it was so easy for Belle to just abandon Lily since Hestia and his personal advisor basically told him to. That little segment meant to show his morale and his heroism since he faced little to no difficulty through it. Before watching it, I just thought that it was another Power Fantasy of the Author. And I'm thankful to be proven wrong
Bell is just about the only anime character in recent memory who genuinely feels like a HERO. Someone of great moral character who, while not perfect always strives to do the best he can even at great personal cost. Someone who gets beaten down, over and over again and always finds the strength to keep going. Someone genuinely inspiring.
danmachi is so complete as a novel, if we get the whole thing we are blessed, i was actually rewatching season1 minotaur second first couple hours ago while waiting for season5 next ep
@@yhwach1 yeah.... There's so much more to the story. So many mysteries and unanswered questions. It doesn't even feel like we're halfway there sometimes. But who knows? I remember some rumors that the author said the story only lasts a year in-universe.
I watched season 1 for this series years ago before high school and didn’t remember much from it later on except for the feeling of “I liked it”. Season 2 shows up years later and I watch it with the thought of “The first season was ok, I guess. Let’s see what they do this time”. The writing and world building pulled me in just a bit more once that was over. Freya sending Ishtar to her death by terminal velocity was surprising. Season 3 rolls around and that’s when I realized this series was damn good. Every season since, the additional characters, growth and world building just keeps getting better and I can’t wait to have more it. I really hope Sword Oratoria gets a second season eventually. That’s where I feel the writing for this series is the strongest due to the kinds of things the Loki Familia deals with.
I love this. Finally someone who gets it. I've seen countless people thinking they know good anime and yet call danmachi tasteless. This is what I like
I do agree. When I first watched the anime, I was sick with COVID, and believe it or not, binged first 3 seasons back-to-back in my sick bed. By no means is it a very serious anime, nor too goofy, but there was something about growing with Bell, and his effort, that made ou want to see what he does next. Thank you for reminding me to finish this anime!
it's one of my favourite animes, keeps getting better and better every new season! i think i'm gonna start reading the novels cause i cant wait for season 6
@@gallenberger1 i do agree, they got on the gas, i cant wait for the war game! Thank you so much for highlighting Bell Cranel. He's such a great character and so inspiring to stick to your morals and to always try to better yourself surpass your own limitations. Keep running white rabbit. 💪🏼
small thing the minotaur he fights in season 1 is not reincarnated it was trained to be super strong and he has a really close battle. season 4 spoiler later the minotaur he defeats in season one does comeback as a black minotaur and wipes the floor with him and the 2 have a agreement that when bell becomes stronger he will rechallenge him again for all the marbles sine the black minotaur gained sentience upon reincarnation
Hey! Thanks for talking about this anime man. I really appreciate the video, i hope that a bunch of people see this video and have some thoughts on watching this masterpiece. Anyways, personally danmachi had always been my favourite/number 1 anime as soon as i started the season 1. Not to mention, the season 2, 3 and 4 also showed his character development and not some overpowered MC who just sweep through the entire seasons. Also, in every season there is a the new characters with their own background/past making them way too unique. As in the show their character development is also visible which is barely a thing nowadays and not focused on the MC completely. Basically showing both Bell's growth and his party members. Also i know there is a s5 ongoing but i m just gonna wait for the s5 to release completely so i can just re-watch the whole anime and admire bell as a true hero again and again lol. And, even if it's underrated or even if it gets popular in future, danmachi will always have a special spot in my heart. W video, W anime, W hestia familia and W bell cranel. ❤
Bell Cranel's other under-appreciated superpower that is achievable in real life is the power of forgiveness, which shares many traits with the "right thing to do". (One can still execute the "right thing to do" and still not forgive.)
Honestly… just reading the Title and seeing Bell made me agree and realize another anime that I forgot to finish. Thank uu bro💯👏🏾💪🏾was already gnna Subscribe before watching the video lol
@gallenberger1 Please do, the Sword Oratoria manga is the best adaptation of the series. It makes good contrast to how the normal Adventurers in the city are to Bell and sheds light on a completely different perspective to the Xenos Arc and what Bell did was
Glad to see Danmachi (and Bell) getting the recognition it deserves. It's a great show, with a great protagonist. It might not the level of Naruto or AoT but has been quietly great.
I think Bell is really well-written as a character. There is a feeling of "growth" not only in terms of abilities, but also character's development. There is also challenges to his ideals and adversity where he struggles emotionally and physically, making the time when he succeeds truly "shine". A "pure good" character like Bell is often written "bland" and "boring" or just "perfect" and "gary sue" in many stories so the archetype can be looked down but in fact, it's because it is often used badly. Here, Bell is really a "hero on a journey" with "human qualities and defaults".
There’s something about this anime that always makes me think about it idk if it’s the story or if it’s Bell but it one of the most interesting anime I’ve watched💯
As someone that has kept up with the LN's and anime, Bell has come along way and he has gone through so much hardships and it shows with his character Arc. I am always looking forward to the next pre-ordered novel arriving for his newest journey.
I admit, my first impressions of Bell were not favorable, but he did grow on me. And yes, that he always tries to do the right thing is a significant mark in his favor.
YES! YES! THANK YOU! There's a reason that Danmachi is my favorite light novel series. And it was this. All of this. But with the anime coming out at the same time as juggernauts like One Piece and Attack on Titan and a name like its long winded, an truly odd real name it was not given a chance by more people. Hell, when I watched it I was on an Ecchi binge. But man. The series was so good that I let go of the need for ecchi and watched a boy grow for a season. Of course, I'd pick up the source material and read! And when there were more seasons, I watched them. Hell, multiple times. I even put it on a list of shows to watch with a friend, and even he understood why I hold it in such high regard. I'm glad this video showed up on my feed
Despite having a op ability liaris freese that still doesn't make him invisible and he can't beat a experience adventure that is a one lvl higher than him cuz of course his still inexperience he has to train and earn those experience through combat what makes bell a good character throughout his suffering physically and mentally in the novels and anime he's still keep reaching for he's goals and his desire to grow stronger just seeing him how far he has come and the hard work finally paying off is just satisfying to see he started as a weak nobody into becoming strong hero. I respect a man who's committed to his goals.
I agree with you on this one. I really like Bell. I’m not sure what it is, but maybe it’s the fact that you actually see him put in the work for his progression. Superman is also one of my favorite comic characters, there’s something really noble about someone who has such great power be so completely selfless. Also, I grew up in the countryside so those small town Kansas values vibe with me.
Totally agree. This show has been in my top five for years. I actually remember someone saying that they didn't like this show because Bell never gets any stronger 😒. I was like, " dude, did you even watch the show?".
Hahaha, I remembered watching it when it was just released. I was like 14-15 years old and I loved it! I read all the LN by that time, and when season 2 came out I was freaking hyped. Now we are on season 5! Can't wait to see the end of this masterpiece!! Just my thoughts and I don't want to ruined anybody else experience, I think Bell it's to perfect that the end of the show will be something like he sacrifices himself T.T, wish that doesn't happen hahaha
My wife and I love Danmachi. We find him an incredibly exciting and engaging protagonist. Love the soundtrack as well. The use of the “striving rabbit” motive, never gets old.
I agree with you bro! Bell Cranel is one of my favorite Anime Protagonist! Danmachi has never let me down when it comes to story and action, without getting too over simplified, and Killer OST! I'm amazed he doesn't be more accolades in Anime Circles. One of the Few NON-Isekai Anima that I love to watch over and over again ("Bleach", "One Punch Man", "Solo Leveling" and "Kaiju No. 8" are some of the others I've watch MULTIPLE TIMES THROUGH). The most annoying thing in Danmachi is which female to pair Bell with! LOL! Aiz is in the lead, but Ryu is running a CLOSE 2nd! Lily, Mikato, Harahima, Casandra, and Hestia are in a 5 way tie for 3rd. LOL! Syr (form of Freya) made it a 6-way tie, but once I figured out she was Freya, back in season 1 (When she gave Bell the Grimwoire to give him magic that Freya had in her library, it became obvious that Syr was very likely Freya in disguise, and she's a bit much, thus didn't want her to end up with Bell. Anyway, I do agree, Bell Cranel is a great character, and it's great to watch his progress in the series!
I hope this gets more promotion in the algorithm. Amazing video about my favorite anime protagonist, besides Ryu if they give her an “Astraea Record” anime adaptation.
The new season just came out! I didn't even know and no one is talking about it; and they are on season 5!!! 🤯 I didn't even know they made a season 2!!! The sad reality is that 99% of "hyped" anime will be forgotten by the masses within a few months of it's last episode. A few years ago when we were considered nerds and outcast for watching anime. So there were only a few being shown here in the U.S, and therefore it was easy for EVERYONE to be talking about the same anime for months or even years. But now the genre is so saturated and main stream that there are just too many anime to keep up with. There are countless copy cats as well as countless strong contenders; so I honestly don't blame people for forgetting this anime.
I took me such a long time to get around to watching Danmachi, and I wish I had gotten into it sooner than I did. I can't help but laugh at the fact that the abridged series is what got me into the show. I just need to know where I can watch season 5.
I did the same. Was put off watching it by the discourse surrounding the title as it is in English, "is it wrong to try to pick up girls in a dungeon?". Didn't start watching until season 5 was airing, and oh boy was I surprised. Season 4 threw me for a loop with how things continued to get worse and worse and worse for the characters. Was genuinely impressed.
@jonathankkennedy The actually didn't put me off, I just never heard of the series itself until the abridged series. Season 4 was incredible. The first appearance of the Juggernaut was crazy. Seeing it just obliterate Bell was shocking. And Ryu's backstory was good too.
We honestly got the short end of the stick with the Danmachi series. I've read the Sword Oratoria manga and while it starts off pretty cringe to the point where the anime adaptation only got one season because of it, the plot outshines Danmachi and as the characters are each given the spotlight, every single one is shown to have incredible depth. Ais and Bete both have major emotional trauma in their past that defines their personalities while the twin Amazon's have an interesting contrast as well as a nice plot twist in their origins, and Finn's motivations for being what he is are very realistic. And while Bell is running around and doing things on a small scale, with the exception of the Xenos arc, the Loki Familia is at the center of a plot to destroy the city, and eventually the world, with them being the only ones willing to stop it. Freya steps in every now and then to offer a hand or move the plot along in a different direction too.
@@gallenberger1Yup. Been a light novel series since 2013 or 2014. Hence kinda why season two took so long to come out. The author wanted to get enough story built in his LNs so that he wouldn’t overwork himself. So now he has at least two or three arcs which could be boiled down to a season or two of the anime, giving him time while those are coming out to work on another series of LNs for the next season or two of danmachi
I have watched the entire series so far. I would be the first to admit he has a cheat skill. But within that world it is a possible thing as skills pop up based on experiences. His early life with his grandfather raising him on hero stories makes a solid foundation for that very skill. He got the Hero Skill, not just a cheat. It works on faith in himself and having a goal to strive towards. But he also does the most important thing to make a hero. He puts in the work to get there. No shonen a$$pull power ups. He fights, he bleeds, he loses, he gets back up, he fights some more. He earns everything he gets. He walks the Hero's Journey that so many people want to see. Then, during all of this he is a good man. He stays true to his beliefs and morals. He becomes the Hero people want to cheer for by making things better.
im since day one in the familia ngl i randomly found it on crunchyroll back then when no one watched over legal sites i waited every day for it because i didnt know it was weekly and yeah since tehn im a fan.
danmachi in general is underrated it recently starting getting popular with season 4 and 5 (I suppose season 1 as well since it was being compared a little bit to kirito and SAO). Nevertheless its great, people are starting to realize the anime. Been a fan of this anime since DAY 1 and Ive enjoyed it ever since!!!!
Story before a ksenos ark is hard to read. It has many anime bullshit that easily outweighs the story itself. I watched danmachi ongoing since like 2nd season and really got into it only when 4th was starting. I read until light novel ongoing and put this story to one of my favorites. And then read it from the begining What I'm trying to tell is that first arcs is mostly boring. They're has many interesting details for the fans, but too generic for average reader/viewer. Ksenos arc is really interesting when you're invested. And way more brutal in the novel. But when you're watching danmachi as one of the season anime, it feels like generic story about minorities that are trying to find their place in the world - boring. And also a ton of furries in it
@gallenberger1 I left off like episode 3 of the season where they're about to have a contest or something against another Familia. I also haven't watched the Spin-off with the blonde girl
People often pretend like good heroes are boring. No they are not. Heroes Journey is not without reason as much prevalent in stories as it is by happenstance. It is something we enjoy to see, but a lot of stories are not as skilled in creating obstacles to overcome. Especially if the strengths the character learns by overcoming those are only relevant in certain arcs to achieve a certain goal. DanMachi is in my opinion great because we can feel the growth Bell experiences througout the story as a whole - like you said where his capabilities as an inspiration and hero manifest. Where his true nature, his ideals start to be matched with his capabilities or in short "how he realizes his ideals". DanMachi is fun because not everything is always going his way. Especially season 3 was a highlight for me because he opposes Ais and the only thing stopping the confrontation as a whole is the monster in question displaying humanity and behavior that is unlike monsters, which stops Ais in her tracks. Bells opposition did not stop Ais, his opposition enabled Ais zu witness something she would've never seen if it wasn't for Bell. All of those things are interesting because the series treats characters other than Bell with respect and as individuals, not simply as props for our hero to adorn himself with. Bell is a hero because of his influence he has on others. The main theme of him is called "heroic desire" and Bell instills us with this desire as well - even if it is cliche: We want to see him prevail and make his naive ideas a reality. We want to witness the birth of a hero.
As a Christian, can’t dislike him; genuinely moving as we are called to. I didn’t wanted to check the anime since I been seeing goofy cut clips but I will now, thx ig
Danmamchi is freaking good man! Astounding storytelling and details and funny moments as well. Likeable characters and for the hornry people there is booba.
Paragons are not boring, not every flaw needs to be moral for the character feel 3 dimensional. Bell have plenty of flaws, especialy internally by his lack of confidence, but whne push come to shove he tries, he may fail, but he tries.
As someone who've watched the entire series of naruto and dragon ball, i can say danmachi is oneof the best and recommended anime to watch Edit : btw fyi, im currently rewatching the entire series and now im in early of season 4 part 1, i never even rewatched naruto and dragon ball 🤣🤣

Bell Cranel is definitely the most inspiring heroic figure I’ve seen!
@@King_of_Blue-Eyes Glad you're on board 👊
Slight correction@ 1:00: Liaris Freese helps Bell's stats grow very fast, but one of the cool things about Danmachi is that levelling up requires both high enough stats and performing some sort of significant feat. So you could say it helps him meet the requirements to level up, but the onus is still on Bell actually being epic to level up. It also isn't a constant - its effectiveness is based on his feelings for Ais - and it's not permanent - if he had given in to Freya he would have lost it.
I was generally aware of this but figured it'd be easier to explain without it. Plus, I don't understand that part as well as you do 😅
Based on my understanding, he will continue to grow faster with said conditions until he believes himself to be as good/powerful as Ais
Hopefully the next vid is for you too!

@@gallenberger1The shows ability to not only test Bell through feats of strength, but psychologically as well. Given the shows name/basic premise, it got ALOT deeper than I was expecting.
@dsmxtuner95 Hell yeah

Thank you for doing a video on danmachi it’s so underrated it’s my favorite anime by far
Next two vids will be right up your alley
Technically the author did said he regreted naming the series "Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon?". Plus the harem tag isn't helping at all, due to this issues it tends to make wrong empressions to casual anime watchers.
Yeah.... but he does pick up girls in dungeons... but in a way to help them lol.
finally someone who knows.
Yeah. The real title is "Is it wrong to seek a chance encounter in a dungeon?" (Familia Myth is another title too.)
After meeting Ais, Bell answered the title with "I was not wrong".
Yeah, showing how he actually feels in the moments he's supposed to do the right thing makes him so much more relatable.

Best danmachi vid of the year!!
@@animan-ti7qt Thank you for the kind words
@@saofanidwi I wish I had thought about the Haruhime part the way you put it. That's such a great point
Bell is just about the only anime character in recent memory who genuinely feels like a HERO.
@@OfficialWhitson Agreed! Thanks for watching

It all happened in 6 months in LN time, but the series is a few years old.

So much this 🙌
You resume what I feel about danmachi really well.
As a Christian, can’t dislike him; genuinely moving as we are called to. I didn’t wanted to check the anime since I been seeing goofy cut clips but I will now, thx ig
If you like heroes who can inspire, I'd recommend it
Danmamchi is freaking good man! Astounding storytelling and details and funny moments as well. Likeable characters and for the hornry people there is booba.
🤣 that addition at the end
He's the key to defeating the Witch, Gullveig
Let’s go Danmachi mentioned!
More to come!
Paragons are not boring, not every flaw needs to be moral for the character feel 3 dimensional. Bell have plenty of flaws, especialy internally by his lack of confidence, but whne push come to shove he tries, he may fail, but he tries.
Bell it's one of my favorite anime characters. Not gonna lie
@@azusamc Hell yeah
Hot Take. Bell reminds of Guts from Berserk.
Finally danmachi got attention it deserves
