Awesome videos - I have a John deere d105 with the welded on bracket vs the adjustable one that has two bolts you can loosen and tighten the belt. Have you figured out belt tension can be adjusted on this machine? Using jd belt exact part and the belt is very loose even when engaged - everything seems to be spinning freely with no pully or spindle issues. Have seen tons of this same problem but haven’t found a solution? Belts just won’t last as they get torn up from being too loose……LOVE the mower other than this!

Purchased this to replace a guide pulley th-cam.com/users/postUgkxO9seYZjlnuP5UvMkb7osQW3WxPVeSnPk on our John Deere x304 snowblower. As I stated in the title, it is just about perfect. The stock pulley has a spacer at the bottom. I used four washers to emulate said spacer, and it works perfectly now. Great product, and great price especially if compared to typical JD prices.

How do you deal with the flaking-off paint (or powder coating) on the D/L series decks? Mine's flaking in pieces measured in inches. Strip and paint it all or just paint the spots? I long for the days of enameled metal on the Sixties-Seventies 110-and-up Deeres.

Your channel is just simply awesome! I’ve got to do this to my Husqvarna riding mower this weekend. Come to find out those sealed bearings from the factor in the spindle last a grand total of 74 hours. From your channel and others I’ve learned to to make it so that never happens again. At least not from a lack of grease. This thing basically exploded out the bottom. I heard a change in sound as I was mowing but because of the high grass I was in I thought it had just caked on and would clear in a turn or two. It was NOT grass, it was a part entirely engineered to fail! There are no zerk fittings, even if it had one the bearings are sealed! Shady af if you ask me. Anyway thank you so much for your awesome videos! Your three goals have been achieved! Deep gratitude from this guy

So I’ve owed a 42” John Deere for years and the way you replaced the drive belt is exactly the way I’ve done it for years. This is the perfect video on how to do it the right way. In many videos I’ve watched they seem to avoid removing the mower deck which takes all of 5 minutes. Sure makes this job a lot easier.

I have JD X320. I always take it into the dealer at least once a year. They have to pick it up because I have no means to get it to them. I also have a snow blower attachment that needs to go on each winter. I always struggle with my deck because of it's bulk and size. I always have trouble getting it hooked up to the linkages because I can't seem to get it on the lowest setting. One guy told me you screw the deck control all the way down and then pull up on the engagement lever rather than push down. Somehow that hasn't worked for me. I couldn't start the tractor last year on the one big snowstorm and freeze out we got last January. I couldn't get out of my driveway. When I could get out I took the battery to a local parts place and the battery tested out just fine. The guy told me to change out my solenoid. I did that and no change. Finally I took the batter into John Deere after the roads were cleared up a bit. The dealer is 20 miles away from me. The dealer tested the battery and it was no good. The dealer told me the solenoids never go bad. I bought a new battery, took the solenoid out that I bought from the car parts place and put in the OEM solenoid. The tractor is working just find now. Live and learn. But I sure wish there was a way to predict when the batter might need replacement prior to the big storm and a dead snow blower. Working outside with wind chills of 20 below zero was pretty bad. Working in confined space without any heat was pretty bad. It took me a couple of days going inside my house to warm my numb fingers so I didn't drop any parts. I'm thankful it got done. Everything looks easy in June. I keep telling the dealer to make sure everything that needs to be replaced is replaced so I don't have troubles in the winter. I guess that isn't possible. I love you channel. I am learning a lot and building my confidence to tackle some of my needed work. My annual checkup is pretty expensive. Maybe one day I'll try doing everything myself.

Deere built their own assembly factory in Tennessee for mowers, where even the 'budget' Deere's sold at big box stores like Home Depot are assembled there. Deere even does things like metal stamping and powder coating from what I'm lead to believe, so it's not strictly assembly. This is likely a partial reason why they're hundreds more than the MTD brands. Now whether or not Deere sources some parts out to MTD, I have been unable to find that info. You would think that enough people work at the Tennessee factory, someone would have seen a shipment labeled MTD.

I have used many of the major brands over the years and depending on what type of job you need them for they all have their strong and weeks points. Personally I have found that what works best for my needs is a Stiga all wheel drive with the deck in front instead of under the machine, e.g. the Park Pro series. This allows you to easily get into corners, between bushes and shrubs etc. and allows for super easy access to the deck whether it is for cleaning, servicing, sharpening blades, or whatever. They are a bit pricey but have outlived anything else I have tried and should be worth the investment in the long run.

So clear, easy to follow, and simple enough for first timers to do it. I found your presentation so refreshingly understandable it made tackling the job far less stressful. The video portions showed exactly what needed to be done and how to do it. If I were female, I would have even more raves about even more aspects but, suffice it to say, this was the best step-by-step mechanical how-to I have ever seen on TH-cam! BRAVA! And thank you.

I love that you identify what tools, including sizes, you are using. The more of your videos I watch the more I like your presentation/explanation of each step. I changed my belt two years ago and it took me forever to get the new belt on correctly. You made it look so simple. I'm getting ready to replace my deck blades...😕 One thing I always check whenever I remove my deck is to make sure its level when I put it back on. It's a simple adjustment and only takes a couple minutes. I also grease the fittings.

    • @outlet6989
      @outlet6989 2 ปีที่แล้ว

Since part of my deck is flat, from one side to the other, I use a long-level tool to ensure that the blades are level too. Same method to adjust the deck pitch.

i"ve got an JD LA135 with the 42 inch deck. I figured that stuff out as I went when everything started howling and screaming. I learned a thing from Steves Small Engine Saloon about the grease zerks on those spindles. Basically they don't do anything because the bearings are sealed and there's no way to get the grease into the bearing, unless you follow his advice.

When the deck belt gets stretched on the older John Deere’s, you can loosen the 2 bolts on the PTO cable bracket and slide the bracket back about 1/4 inch and tighten the belt.
I know you cannot do it on some of the E models as the bracket is welded to the deck

I noticed the grease zerk on the new spindle. Question is, are the bearings in the new spindles actually open and grease-able or, are they sealed bearings like I found inside my spindles? It seams like JD played a big mean joke on us by installing sealed bearings in the spindles so you can pump grease in them all day but none actually makes it into the bearings.

I love you videos Bre (my youngest daughter's name is Bri(anna)) I currently use a Toro Timecutter SW5000,,,I love the riding mower but hate holding on to the pedal to keep it moving straight forward what I really want is the Craftsman I had when I first started buying riding lawn mowers...I believe it had 7 speeed control the speed by using a handle and it was 42 inch cut with a 18.5hp...the funny thing they still make these mowers but why do you think they would replace the fuel tank with a 1.3 gallon tank rather than the one that originally came with it ??? Just thought I'd ask,... Someone like yourself that probably sees a lot of different things change on mowers...Keep these videos coming I'm learning a lot from you...

I'm ashamed to say this but I was mowing my yard out next to the road last year and a dog had been killed by a car and was in the edge of my grass. It was july and it was stinking horribly. I figured I'd mow around it and go to buy some lime to throw on it when I was done. Well,I got to close to it and it got under the deck and fouled my blades. I had no choice but to stop and dig it out. It was just disgusting and it tore up one of my star patterns on my spindle. Never, ever, never try to do that. It's not worth the possibility of having to do what did. Suprisingly, you cant mulch a dead dog.

Great video. I would love some advice about my new purchase. It's a JD X155r built in 2014 and has done 1000 hours. I'm worried about the high hours and maybe I am wasting my money servicing and replacing belts. Is it likely that something major like the engine or transmission is about to give up on this mower? It doesn't seem to have been well maintained eithe, the last oil change was at 760 hours in 2021! That said it starts and runs fine, I engaged the blades and they seem to work but I haven't tested it properly

Very informative. Your a great teacher and a heck of a mechanic. You really break down the steps and I’m mechanically inclined but haven’t done this before. I definitely feel confident after watching your video I won’t have any issues doing this. I bought a John Deere x300 for $100 the engine only has 200 hrs and the deck is seized up because they have so much stuff wrapped around the blades similar to this. Thanks for the video! Can you show a video of how to set a tire back on the bead. I have tried using ratchet straps around the tire and inflating and it just doesn’t seem to seat. The tire keeps deflating and their isn’t any holes
