Especially if you're having shoulder surgery. I've had many surgeries over the years, and, yes, the pre-op preps actually do this. I've had "not this side (X)" or "Other side", etc. as a tattoo for days after surgery.
I have a small occidental leather pouch. It's clip on. Holds tape, knife, pencil, spring punch, marker, and a screwdriver. Basically everything I need. I ditched big tool bags years ago
I was really impressed with that flat bar and how smoothly it did the job. I used to have what I considered to be a complete tool set but unfortunately never had one of those. That would've saved me so many headaches and so much time. Thanks for the heads-up. Always appreciate your vids!
I use two flat bar pry tools. One to open the trim. A second one to pry further down the trim. I use putty knives from the Dollar Tree as a backing surface when prying. I made a bent Dollar Tree putty knife by securing it in a vise and heating is with a propane torch, then beat it to an angle with a hammer. I used it for working on aluminum siding. It is also good for pulling in tight gaps. I use a Dollar Tree painter's too for pulling weeds from cracks in concrete. Another flat too to get is a long flat brick chisel. (12l x 7/8w x 3/8). I use it to nail in tight spaces (close together studs or behind lap siding) where it is impossible to swing a hammer. I lay the chisel on the nail head and beat the bar with a hammer to drive the nail in.
definitely! I had mentioned that in part of the video that I cut, lol nobody wants to watch a 25 minute ramble of man that thinks way to much about tools!
I have a few of those small pouches of various brands and I use them all the time. Gardening, trim work, cleaning the house, just having the stuff on my hip is so useful. Most recently I decided to measure all of the walls in the part of the basement I am remodeling so I packed one with a pencil, torpedo level, laser measure tool, tape measure, and a painter's tool because why not? I believe if facilitated the job beautifully because I was not fumbling trying to hold things or digging in my pockets.
No pouch, sew seat belt webbing on right side of pants, 2 pencils(nice tip btw)one marker preferably Milwaukee, next, Knipex pliers in the deep side pocket on(always handles down) carpenter jeans, many different brands, they all change, tiny flashlight clipped into front right pocket along with the work pro quick change box cutter(you can pay more, but you get less), lighter in right rear pocket(I don't smoke, but you need fire), left rear for bits, and for tape measure that clips to front right side when being used, Milwaukee Autolock 16', otherwise, the smallest auto lock I can find, but checked to make sure it's accurate. Everything else rotates as needed for job. No belt, suspenders. Hold ups, best clip for not destroying your pants. Enjoy all EDC from others. thanks for sharing.
that isn't the old school meaning. it's the meaningless, new-school meaning. to see why, take "literally" out of your sentence and see how much better it gets.
Love the setup! Mines almost identical but I'll definitely try those pencils out, also give the Milwaukee sharpees a try. They last a lot longer and write better on wet and dirty surfaces, in my experience. Keep the videos coming, I've been a carpenter for over 10 years and I've learned so many great things from you!
Man I really appreciate your bloopers. I feel like same exact way trying to find my words sometimes lol. Great rig there. I agree on everything. I will recommend trying Milwaukee inkzall sharpies. I would say they're much more durable than regular sharpies. This is probably most noticable marking glossy tiles while using a wetsaw and not losing your mark like with normal sharpies.
I just recently discovered the spring nail set. So handy to have for trim work. I’ll have to check out those pencils - I’ve been using a .9mm mechanical pencil after getting tired of sharpening the standard yellow variety.
Staedtler pencils are the best. Staedtler Mars mechanical pencil with .9 mm is my go to. I've been using that model for at least 14 years. Great video!
That spring nail set is brilliant. I'll need to get one and try it out. I just got a couple of the springloaded press punch types for metal work. The Staedtler pencils are/were the go-to when I was in engineering school. My father and his were tool and die makers, and I have a box of Staedtler drafting tools going back almost 100 years, plus the drafting stuff I bought in around '80 for school, still in use. Supergluing the eraser is a brilliant idea. Going to steal that, thank you. The Titan prybar, yes! Sharpie, forever. Milwaukee came out with their own, which I've found has a more durable tip. or the blade, you can't beat the size of the Olfa. always have those in my various bags, but I tend to use the Milwaukee Fastbacks more. do pretty much everything except fine carpentry work, mostly because I can cut a piece three times, and it's still too short. I love my old leather pouches, as they last forever. keep one similar to what you're using that goes with my bigger/different electrical/plumbing/? setups. Thanks for posting. (I found that 10 thumbs works marginally better than one.)
Good luck healing, achilles ruptures suck, but it sucks just as much to try and repair them! Great video as always, I will forever keep a sharpie on my person for when I feel the urge to become an amateur banksy in the crapper.
Great video. Thanks for sharing what you've learned during all you experience. I still need to get myself a spring nail set. I'm still using my regular nail set with a hammer, like a cave man.

Dewalt has a similar pouch I've been using about 20 years. It's a little better for me since it has a utility knife pocket in the outside middle. Thank you for sharing your experience
Good list. I prefer a specific stile mechanical pencil, a 10mm utility blade, and a metric tape. But, lots of great stuff here. I would also add a Purdy folding painters tool. I carried the Warner version for years but they don't make them anymore. I like these so much I have been thinking about having a custom version made with better steel, and a 2nd flexible putty blade.
Have you seen the swedish brand Cirk-L? They sell a pair of pants with a loop system on them thay allows you to hang any of their addons. or if you want to make your own you can do that too... anyways. the great thing with it is that its very versiltile, you have plenty of space for nails and screws when you need it. if you dont need it you can just unhook the pouch or just slide it to the back where it's not in the way. best workwear i've ever had.
I know sharpie is such an iconic name for permanent markers. But man I learned real quick Milwaukee fine point markers are the best. When I worked at HD in Lumber and loading department I would some how always get the caps to fall off and it would leak all inside my apron Or they would dry out and never work when I needed them to, man a manager gave a Milwaukee one where the cap clip broke so couldn’t “sell” it anymore. Thing lasted forever and still have it today some 5 years later
For framing I have always used a BIC Cristal Xtra Smooth Ballpoint Pen. They write really well on wood, unless it's really wet, you don't have to sharpen them and they are fine lined. Construction pencils leave too thick of a line for me even for framing.
Its crazy how many old heads laugh at my titan pry bar. I have a big pry as well but I rarely need it. I even use it to lift cabinets while Im shimming. Its ridiculously strong for what it is. Still yet to deform mine years later.

The average carpenter actualy carries and uses lots of different things all over all day long. That is a good tool kit for what you do By no stretch of imagination is that anything close to a real carpenters tool belt.
I keep my speed square in my tool cart. As an indoor carpenter working in semi finished spaces, I prefer not to carry a giant belt with metal sticking out everywhere
I do finish and cabinets ? No thinks I use a custom Akibus belt with suspenders those little useless purses throw off your hips and Ultimately ruin your back ? Ask me bout that and that was straight from the surgeon Who fixed mine ! Scratching cabinets and finish ? No exposed metal and in 15 yrs no problems!

A "5 in one " painter's knife and a 2 " chip brush.
The average carpenter actualy carries and uses lots of different things all over all day long. That is a good tool kit for what you do
By no stretch of imagination is that anything close to a real carpenters tool belt.
Ahhh this looks like the pouch on my 25 yo carpenters belt and my belt has a place for my hammer.
It's weird to count the hours as a carpenter. And how did you survive all those hours without having a speed square every single hour with you?
I keep my speed square in my tool cart. As an indoor carpenter working in semi finished spaces, I prefer not to carry a giant belt with metal sticking out everywhere
Number B!?
B is a #1 pencil.
😎⚒️😎⚒️😎
Cheers Ted, I sure do appreciate yet another view!
Number B eh?
no doubt eh! At some point I became obsessed with the best possible pencil. I used to have to scribe giant cabinet panels to the wall.
B no be a number
was hoping your hair cut would get progressively shorter each time camera came back to you.. missed opportunity
No reach around please.
Pretty sure B is a letter and not a number. I do agree with your insights, keep up the good content
I c
Number 'B' pencil LoL
I do finish and cabinets ? No thinks I use a custom Akibus belt with suspenders those little useless purses throw off your hips and Ultimately ruin your back ? Ask me bout that and that was straight from the surgeon Who fixed mine !
Scratching cabinets and finish ? No exposed metal and in 15 yrs no problems!
Carpenters don’t use round pencils 😅
Give me a knife and a flat bar and I'll move the world. Or at least some baseboard.
Why put a tool in your video that is not part of the description
Cargo shorts.
wow, what happened with your hair and beard, very weird. (that rhymes)
They fell off
Why is that hundreds of you tubers are bearded? Face anonymously?
You really cut your hair mid video
Thanks for all your time and effort. 1in7
Best tool bags for a professional carpenter not your dewalt junk but carpenters nail bags mad by a cat name Jim Strickland who now deceased. Diamondback hands down although the guys now running the show have cheapened them also. Good luck Americans if you worked as much as ya yammer maybe wed have better control over our politicians
