Love Matt's "victory pie" or orange in this case. Reminds me of my Dad's tradition during WWII: He was a B-17 radio operator/gunner and his tradition on his 25 missions over Europe was to bring a chocolate bar (Snickers?) and put it between the vacuum tubes of the plane's radio so it wouldn't freeze solid during the mission. He only ate it once they were returning to England and safe from enemy fighters and flak. He said those were the best tasting 25 Snickers he ever ate! Keep up the excellent work!

Hi Matt I am from Québec Canada where there is quite a bit of snow, and if I can give you one advice is that you should always break trail first before trying to tow an other vehicule. It would have made it much easier on the Bombi. And when it really deep you pack the trail, let it freeze over night and resume recovery the next day. Good job, I really enjoy watching you video.

On these deep snow recoveries it would really help you guys out a ton to air down the stuck vehicle's tires a bit to help with traction and float. On that Tacoma you could have easily gone down to 15-20psi without risking popping a tire off the bead and it would have made a huge difference. I regularly drive my tundra in snow that deep and air down to 8-10PSI without issue and the amount of float and traction gained is remarkable. Love what you guys do! Keep up the amazing work!

Looks like you have room for a square body radiator & Crown Vic Fan. Maybe Paul has one to donate for the cause. Its amazing the Bombie can handle what it does. I love TT's Idea of an LS, adding a desent sized aux cooler in addition to the one in the radiator should give you years of reliable service! It warms the fluid when it's cold but also equalizes temps better between trany & engine yielding a ton of usable capacity without any spikes. Fluids tend to last longer. Most people myself included don't change their coolant every 2-3 years & I know better! Even my transmission fluids get pushed out on my non towing rigs... I need to install drains in everything so there is no excuse lol... but I'm like you... I get busy with life & forget. Love the hand valves on my tow rigs... allows me to quickly install the clear tube & drain my oil into empty jugs... & not spill a drop.

It would have been helpful to have had Lizzy press and hold the VSC button to turn off traction control, activate the rear locker (trd offroad and pro models equipped), and press the A-TRAC button. A-TRAC works like ABS except the other way around. Instead of modulating brakes to keep braking traction it actually modulates brakes to keep accelerating traction. Im not positive if it works with the locker engaged, but I do know it got me up a steep and muddy hill in Wasatch Mountain State Park in a down pour where I had no way out but up. It sounds annoying, but works well. Before I activated it I was peeling out and sliding backwards. With it engaged I crawled up and out. At heart I am a 4wd purist (❤ mechanical). But sometimes these new fangled traction robots are actually pretty useful.

Some radiator theory: Puking coolant is not boiling over; that's just venting. Boiling over is when the engine is so hot it is evaporating the coolant and showing steam coming out the fill port. This is "not cute" (as opposed to just flashing off the liquid on the engine from the snow, ie, cute). Water boils at 212 degrees at atmospheric. Matt's group is in the mountains, so boiling might be a bit less at mountain atmospheric. If you put your coolant at 50/50 antifreeze, which gives up to -20 F protection on freezing, you now get a boiling point of 223 F, which is better. If you put a cap on the coolant system rated to vent at 15 psi, you are now operating at atmosphere + 15 psi, and boiling point is now 268 degrees.
Small block Chevies, which were in everything prior to everything getting LS swapped, are rated to 250 degree operation. The reason the Bombi is struggling on cooling, like said, is because the radiator can't handle the peak load. However, if you put a radiator that CAN handle the peak load, the thing will never warm up and run well and give heat in the cabin, unless a proper thermostat is put in. A performance, hi flow, stat like a Superstat, set to something decent like 180, and a massive radiator, will keep the thing nice and warm during normal operations, but dump open the whole awesome cooling capacity of the new boss radiator when needed. It's always good to have extra radiator capacity.
Since Matt's group is rebuilding the Bombi, I won't send him an infrared thermometer to get accurate, on the fly, temps because it sounds like he's getting rid of the problem entirely.

An aluminum 5.3 would work really good in the Bombi. The aluminum 5.3 V8 weighs really close to the same as that 4.3 V6 and puts out around 200 more HP. and 100lb-ft of more torque, and that 5.3 will do all that while getting just as good or even better gas mileage. The only thing I'd be worried about is breaking the driveline and tracks. If you can beef those up it would be an awesome little Bombi. You might even have to find it a new name, like The Ice Slinger. lol.

The Bombi is a cute little rig but it's out of its league. Kind of like cutting hay with a lawn tractor. Putting in a 5.3 would over tax the entire chassis. Beefing it up to stand it is possible but at a huge weight cost. How about tracks on the Banana or Morevair? Seasonal switch over like changing tires.

We have vehicles like that up north, "Bombardier" is the name if the inventor of the snowmobiles, and the first snowmobiles were like your vehicle, now they are used mostly for modern snowmobiles and off road trails maintenance and search and rescue. never seen one for vehicles recovery, but the 5.3 litres combined with a turbo-350 tranny is exiting, but I would add, rows of front and rear led lights some small on the sides, front and rear winch, or maybe a winch mounted on a tube to use in the hitch receptacle, so it could be moved front or rear, and a giant pair of aluminium tobogan to be able to put under the wheels of the rescued vehicle, and organise the rear rack, to be more useful, at least having the side you can open on each side, never saw one overheat, but here its very cold, maybe upgrade with a double core radiator, with double fan and have the sides open variably from the front side only, so it would funnel cold air to the engines and radiator....I see it all in my head but hard to explain!
