Good show guys! The biggest problem with the conference schedule is there are too many tough games in a row. The OSU through Arizona portion of the season is brutal. The team
could get worn down and injuries - especially at QB, RB or DB could be a real problem. The over/under 6.5 wins seems like a slam dunk. I think this WVU’s best team under Brown and arguably their best team in a decade. I think anything less than 8 wins barring major injuries would be a disappointment.

I think there will be an adjustment period for the new teams coming into the Big 12. Utah being 8-5 in the PAC 12 but the Big 12 is not the PAC 12 or PAC 2. There is more parity in the Big 12. Compared to who Utah played against in the PAC 12 is not on the same level of competition in the Big 12. Utah will struggle in the first couple of years. Every week in the Big 12 is playing against a tough competive team. The PAC 12 was top heavy with a few good teams.

I think by far 2 biggest keys to get anywhere near a big 12 title game is injurys an GG. He is not very tall if a D loads box on passing downs will be interesting to see how a not very QB handles that. Remember the 13 to 12 game. Pitt an there D mind coach wandstat shut down Pat white running an passing that day.

9-3 seems right. WVU beats Penn State on a walk-off field goal, and splits OK State/Arizona on the road. They also split Iowa State/Kansas State, and drop one more in there somewhere. That puts in the Big 12 title game discussion, and the fringe Playoff talk that comes with. Alamo Bowl win to finish 10-3, ranked #19.

Breaking Down West Virginia University's 2024 Football Schedule and Skill Positions
West Virginia University's (WVU) football team is set for an exciting 2024 season with a mix of non-conference powerhouses and Big 12 rivals on the schedule. The Mountaineers are looking to build on a successful 2023 season, aiming to make a mark in the new-look Big 12. Here's an in-depth game-by-game breakdown of the schedule, along with a focus on the key skill positions that will be pivotal for WVU's success.
    Game-by-Game Breakdown
August 31 vs. Penn State (Home)
Analysis: The season opener against Penn State will be a stern test. The Nittany Lions are traditionally strong and will challenge WVU right out of the gate.
Prediction: Loss. Penn State's depth and experience might give them the edge in this closely contested game.
    September 7 vs. Albany (Home)
Analysis: Facing an FCS opponent like Albany provides an opportunity to refine strategies and build confidence.
Prediction: Win. WVU should dominate Albany, utilizing this game to bolster their offensive and defensive schemes.
    September 14 at Pitt (Away)
Analysis: The Backyard Brawl against Pitt is always a heated rivalry game. Playing away adds to the challenge.
Prediction: Win. WVU's determination and strong rivalry spirit should propel them to victory.
    September 21 vs. Kansas (Home)
Analysis: Kansas has shown improvement, but WVU's home advantage and superior roster should prevail.
Prediction: Win. WVU secures a win against Kansas, continuing their positive momentum.
October 5 at Oklahoma State (Away)
Analysis: After a bye week, WVU faces a tough road game at Oklahoma State.
Prediction: Loss. Oklahoma State's home field and solid team likely result in a WVU loss.
October 12 vs. Iowa State (Home)
Analysis: Hosting Iowa State, WVU will need to leverage their home crowd.
Prediction: Win. A close game but WVU edges out a victory at home.
October 19 vs. Kansas State (Home)
Analysis: Another challenging Big 12 opponent at home.
Prediction: Win. WVU maintains their home dominance with a hard-fought win.
    October 26 at Arizona (Away)
Analysis: A rare trip out west to face Arizona presents a unique challenge.
Prediction: Loss. The travel and Arizona’s competitive team might be too much for WVU.
    November 7/8/9 at Cincinnati (Away)
Analysis: Facing Cincinnati on the road is a tough test, especially with Cincinnati’s recent success.
Prediction: Loss. Cincinnati’s home-field advantage and strong roster could lead to a WVU defeat.
    November 16 vs. Baylor (Home)
Analysis: Back at home against Baylor, this game will be crucial for WVU's Big 12 standing.
Prediction: Win. WVU uses their home advantage to secure a pivotal conference win.
    November 23 vs. UCF (Home)
Analysis: UCF, as a new Big 12 member, brings excitement and challenge.
Prediction: Win. WVU’s experience and home field advantage should see them through.
November 31 at Texas Tech (Away)
Analysis: The season finale at Texas Tech will be a significant game.
Prediction: Loss. Texas Tech at home might prove too strong in the final game of the season.
    Skill Positions Analysis
WVU's success in the 2024 season will heavily depend on the performance of its key skill positions. Here’s a look at the standout players expected to make significant contributions:
    Quarterback:
Garrett Greene is anticipated to be a dynamic playmaker for the Mountaineers. Greene's dual-threat capability adds versatility to WVU's offense, making him a crucial player to watch. His ability to extend plays with his legs and make accurate throws will be essential for WVU's success.
    Running Back:
CJ Donaldson leads the backfield with a combination of power and speed. His ability to break tackles and find gaps in the defense will be crucial for maintaining a balanced offensive attack. Donaldson’s performance will help control the game tempo and open up the passing game for Greene.
    Wide Receivers:
Devin Carter and Preston Fox are expected to be key targets in the passing game. Carter, with his height and athleticism, is a deep threat capable of stretching defenses, while Fox’s reliable hands and route-running skills make him a consistent target for short to intermediate passes. Their ability to create separation and make big plays will be vital for Greene’s success in the air.
    Tight End:
Cole Taylor brings size and versatility to the tight end position. His ability to block effectively in the running game and serve as a reliable receiving option in the passing game adds another dimension to WVU’s offense. Taylor’s presence in the red zone will be particularly important for converting scoring opportunities.
    Defense:
Lee Kpogba, the standout linebacker, will anchor the defense. His leadership, tackling ability, and play recognition are crucial for stopping opposing offenses. Kpogba’s role in orchestrating the defense and making key stops will be pivotal for WVU’s overall performance.
    Defensive Backs:
Aubrey Burks and Malachi Ruffin are key players in the secondary. Their ability to cover receivers, make interceptions, and provide run support will be essential for WVU's defense. Their performance will be crucial in limiting big plays from opposing offenses.
    Season Outcome
    Predicted Record: 8-4
Summary: WVU is poised for a solid season, projecting an 8-4 record. Their success will be driven by the performance of their key skill positions, with a strong showing at home and competitive play in the Big 12. Key wins against rivals like Pitt and important conference victories will position WVU well for a respectable bowl game. The blend of experienced playmakers and promising young talent gives Mountaineer fans plenty to be excited about for the 2024 season (College Football Network) (Heartland College Sports) (WV Sports Now).

Well thought-out analysis. The one forecast that I disagree with is the game with Cincinnati. It may be too late but UC v WVU games should be played at the Bengals' NFL Stadium like they were played as Big East rivals, instead of smaller Nippert Stadium. Why? It allows 20,000 more fans from both sides to attend and generate more revenue. The previous games at the Bengals' stadium were sellouts.

WVU will not beat Tech in LBK. As bad as Tech has been early in the season, they are 8-2 in Nov/Dec games. The South endzone will have been closed off creating a louder environment. The Tech DL/DB's will be younger, but this is Coach McGuires recruits now. Better WR's than from last season, and EVERYBODY never mentions Josh Kelly coming in. Im not sure WVU has anyone that can cover either Hudson (he will be special even in his first season), and Kelly. Not to mention Jalin Conyers. If Caleb Douglas can be productive on the outside, then thats going to be 4,5, or 6 guys who are productive in the WR group. This will be an entirely different Tech offense than the one that has sputtered the past couple seasons.
But, i get it, its a WVU program, and id expect no less...lol

@@CouzsCornerSports program is great, and enjoy listening to other teams' POV. Football can't come soon enough, and hope WVU drills down on PSU!!! Nobody is real sure if Morton can stay healthy....he hasn't yet. Nobody is sure the OL will be better, although I'd rather these new guys than the ones who proved they weren't very good....lol. However, the guys they have brought in have played a ton of football, and they actually brought in OL coach (Clay McGuire (no relation). Evidently from some Tech people, he was who Coach McGuire wanted to bring in originally, but couldn't get things worked out...or something to that effect. So, new OL coach, new guys coming in, and they do have experience...if the OL coach can just get them to mesh as a unit, they *should* be an upgrade....and the WR's will definitely be an upgrade from last year. Like I mentioned earlier...NOBODY mentions Josh Kelly, and he arguably could be 1st team all-conference...he came in from Washington St.
However...to your point, this Tech team will be a lot younger, a lot of new players, but should be a lot more talented and they will definitely have speed all over the field.

17-14 and 51-30 wins! Who can forget those memorable victories over the Nittany Lions? Given realignment and expanded conference with more teams coast-to-coast, PSU will unlikely play another rare "power conference" team on the road when they can host MAC teams at home to a capacity crowd. They actually lose money and why take the risk? The Nittany Lions were successful at Auburn a couple years ago and it remains to be seen what happens in Morgantown.

Just wanted to mention that this years' Backyard Brawl on Saturday, September 14th could turn out to be a Backyard Nightmare. Why? The WVU game with Pitt is scheduled for mid-afternoon at Acrisure Stadium around 4 pm. In the meantime, the Pirates are hosting the KC Royals at PNC Park around 1 pm. That means you could easily have over 100,000 sports' fans bumping into each other on the North Shore of Pittsburgh. Efforts to change times have been unsuccessful so far due to TV coverage and MLB.

Last year, I said 7-9 wins for the regular season, one of the few believers. This year, I say 9 is the floor, 10 likely, and 11 is the ceiling. Not sure which games they'll lose but expect them to stumble once or twice. This is, however, not just a good team but a very good team with no clear weakness. Improvement for the defense is going to be extreme and will make the difference. People are really sleeping on the defense.

@@timboWVU Hurting at depth? You're rather out of date. Depth is good at all positions, although three deep on the D line is young. Lost a receiving crew? Let's see, Braham and Aaron quit too early to be factored into last season much, and Carter graduated. All of the major receivers from the second half of 2023 return: Taylor, Ray, Clement, and Fox. Gallagher has had a year to learn the position, and we've added Bray and Robinson via the portal.

Quite the stellar additions from the portal, right? Ray, on the other hand, racked up a whopping 18 receptions. Aside from Bray and Robinson, the rest of the group, with the exception of Fox, are all young and inexperienced. We've lost Aaron, Poke, and Braham. Besides Fox, who's currently number two on the depth chart, we lack experience and big-time threats at the Wide Out position.

Our conference opener with Kansas at home will be more indicative of what kind of season lies ahead. Two years ago, we lost to Pitt and beat Va Tech. However, when we lost at home to Kansas in OT with QB Daniels, it left a bad taste that we did not recover from throughout the season.

Great show guys and looking forward to more to come! J Martin a great addition to the show! It would have been cool if you guys put up graphics to show your different predictions.
I think WVU has a chance to win 10-11 games in regular season this year if..... IF they remain healthy. Assuming they remain healthy:
PSU - WIN in a close game. I just think theres a lot of change on this PSU team(New roster, staff, & concepts), and I think it takes them a few qtrs to find their timing & rhythm. Though PSU plays better as the game continues but WVU holds on for the Win. WVU 34 - PSU 30. If this game was played as the 2nd or 3rd game of the season I think PSU would likely win it, however I think it takes them a few qtrs to really gel and WVU takes advantage of that in front of a rowdy crowd in Morgantown.
    Albany- WIN
@ Pitt - WIN & WVU covers the 4.5 spread
Kansas - WIN-- I believe Kansas will be a little overrated this season and they feel the loss of Andy K. A close game, but homefield advantage helps WVU come out on top.
    BYE WEEK
@ OkieSt - WIN.. I agree OkieSt always plays tough at home with a lot of returning production, however they have a tough game on the road vs KState while WVU has a bye week to rest up for more preparation time. I think WVU has the talent, skillsets, & experience to come out on top with a bit more time for gameplanning & players playing at peak with a few more days to rest.
IowaSt - WIN. I do think IowaSt will be a good team this year, a top half team in the league, however still a year away from competing near the top. I believe the homefield advantage & more experienced roster helps WVU to come out on top.
KState - WIN. Im one of the few that think KState is slightly overrated this year with a very talent but first year starting QB. I think WVU's superior running game & homefield advantage helps WVU come out on top. This is a game where Greene shows his progress vs a highly touted QB who got more recognition than him before the season started.
@ Arizona. LOSS. If this game was played earlier in the season I would have WVU winning, but 8 weeks into the season, Arizona's passing attack is a bit to much for a WVU team that had 3 tough previous matchups and being on the road in a new environment is a bit to much to overcome in a close game. This is the first loss of the season for WVU.
    BYE WEEK
@ Cincy - WIN. Cincy is outclassed on both fronts and on both sides of the ball. WVU bounces back with a big victory over Cincy.
Baylor - WIN. I do think Baylor will be much improved, but WVU's winning % at home vs Baylor continues. I think this game is closer than what many people will think by this point in the season.
UCF - WIN. This will be a tough tough game for WVU, from a much improved UCF team. However WVU wins in the trenches & depth, and escapes this game with another very close win. Homefield advantage in a cold environment, I think WVU comes out on top.
@ Texas Tech - LOSS. After two hard fought games vs Baylor & UCF, combined with Texas Tech always playing strong at home and wanting to close the season out with a big win vs a highly ranked opponent, I think WVU drops its second game on the road. Texas Tech will seek to hit a grand slam and get a win vs a top ranked opponent.
I think WVU wins all home games this season as WVU fans show up with more interests & passion this season to make the homefield advantage much more impactful. The games I have them losing are all on the road.
With WVUs strength of schedule going 10-2 in regular season, I think this is good enough for WVU to make the CFP, even if they miss out on the BIG12 title game due to a head to head loss vs OkieSt. WVU may miss the BIG12 title game, however barely makes the CFP as a 11 or 12 seed. Before losing to Texas Tech, WVU is ranked in the top 8, but drops down to 11 or 12 after a close loss on the road to close out the season. WVU will be one of those teams that many argue should or shouldnt be in the CFP. In the end, I think our SoS helps WVU secure a CFP spot.
I think WVU's offense will be much better than many people believe, I also think WVU's defense will be much improved, with an offense that will help slow the game down and maintain superior ToP in most games to take reps off the defense this will have a positive effect later in the season.. IF..... IF WVU remains healthy and doesnt lose any of its key playmakers, I think we have the talent, skillsets, & experience to have one of those historical seasons.

I did my preview and prediction and I have WV going 9-3 with loses to Kansas, Oklahoma State, and Iowa State. I do have the Kansas game as a toss up. So I could see them beating Kansas and dropping the Tech game. Love the show guys.

The Kansas game at home is our Big XII Conference opener and let's hope we pull it out. I recall two years ago when we lost to Kansas at home in OT how disappointed our fans and team were. Losing close games to Pitt and then Kansas that year was a bad start to the season.
