    I agree that Longines is a great value in dress watches. They also have a very classy diver in the Legend Diver, a compressor style dial. (Impressive guitar work!)

      That watch is on my '22 shopping list. The amount of glowing praise I hear for the piece has won me over despite some stiff competition.
      There's no shortage of great re-issued chrono's out their atm.

      @@anthonysmith2982 Yeah man! And the movement is amazing for the price as well. You get a silicon hairspring, vertical clutch, column wheel chronograph and 66 hours of power reserve. Most of the competition only gives you a standard 7750.

    There is, I think, a tendency to view Swatch Gp through its brands as though its brands were business units. This is, of course, the way all the luxury groups want you to see them, and I think that Swatch makes a special effort to make people view Omega as very distinct from the rest of the group. It really helps to imagine the Longines stable as part of the Swatch stable, and read across not only movements, which is natural, but design, which is more difficult. You've invited us to look at Longines design language, and I think there really is a Longines design language, but it also reads across to Tissot and Omega products.
    Thanks for another sterling presentation, and thank you for the music!

    • @samallen6478
      @samallen6478 ปีที่แล้ว

      You could say the same for other watch groups like Richmond or LVMH, overall watches that target similar markets are going to copy each others design languages. Swatch is just an umbrella these companies still operate independently with their own CEOs and design teams even if they share ETA movements. I'd say a good equivalent would be car manufacturers with the sharing of engines, transmissions and chassis but overall still being separate independent entities for example the VW group owns Škoda, Audi, Lamborghini, Bentley, Porsche and Ducati yet you wouldn't consider these all Volkswagen cars.

      @eyeheartsushi2212 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Master Collection Moonphase looks amazing.

    • @oliverlison
      @oliverlison 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@eyeheartsushi2212It has been my first luxury watch. Unfortunately, I bought it advertised as mint condition and unworn. However, the case has been overpolished and is not symmetrical anymore. Since, I was new in the business and unexperienced, they found someone to scam. This timepiece will stay forever with me because I am too honest and and I am unable to sell on this watch. I paid a low price though.
      The dial however, is simply beautifully executed. It is really busy that you can stare at the watch forever. It is not an easy watch to read because there is a lot going on:
      - the date on the edge of the dial.
      - the 24h and seconds hand on the 9h pos.
      - Month / Dat / Chronograph sub dail at 12h
      - Moonphase and chronograph sub dial at 6h
      It is jewellery for men.
      Mine has the movement L678, I believe, which is the ETA 7751. Its power reserve is 48h. I have found it too little. The updated versions have a much better power reserve.
      Since I am not wearing this watch every day, I put this watch into a programmeable winder. It is a pain in the arse to set the watch when it has not been worn for a month or so.
      Otherwise I like wearing it. I like the unidirectional winder of the roter because sometime you feel the watch being alive on the wrist.

    The only omission in this very nice nice video is the gorgeous Heritage Sector Black Ref. L2.828.4.53.6. I think this is the most elegant of the whole collection and it looks especially nice on a beads of rice bracelet, but would look sweet on aged leather as well. Thanks for your work, Tim. It's obviously a labor of love for you and we appreciate it!

    Lovely watches, but imho they'd all look so much better without the date - pretty much why I don't have one. I liked the Tuxedo most, but the black & rose gold was very attractive.
    Thanks for your music, after years of playing bass I'm just starting on a baritone ukulele, really enjoying it too, & makes me appreciate all the hard work and time you've put into it - certainly worth every minute.

      @@deansusec8745 but it's only useful once per day (unless you have memory issues)& ruins the dial - a power reserve would be far more useful imho.... Just wish with & without date options were both available then we'd all be happy & they'd get more sales....

    I have delayed my response here to ponder the subset of Longines within my collection. I have 3 Longines. I think by themselves, they could be considered a perfect 3 piece collection. My blue Hydroconquest is my most worn watch for work and it is generally my beater. My titanium Big Eye is the perfect casual, comfortable, stylish piece. It is truly a brilliant watch. In lieu of a dress watch, my 44mm Heritage Military has become my default watch for going out to live music shows, which I do a lot. It is perfect for this because of it's large high contrast dial that is easy to read in dimly lit venues. These three could fill all my needs with great style and great comfort on the wrist. Thanks for inspiring this little thought experiment on the state of my collection.

    Love the Conquest Heritage and the Flagship and might get one of them in future, but my pick for an everyday watch was the 39mm Conquest automatic with blue dial.
    Lovely blue sunburst dial with high polished numerals and indices as well as hands - no lume on this version (the white and the black have lume), but you don’t need it - the high polishing reflects any fraction of light so well, that I can read it at night just from the dimmed down instruments from my truck.
    The H-Link bracelet with the butterfly clasp is a marvel that hugs my wrist extremely comfortable and gives the watch a sporty elegant look.
    Dressing it up or down with some leather straps makes this watch a perfect one-watch-collection and a go-anywhere-do-anything piece from beach to opera.
    For an Msrp of 1080,-€ this watch with 300m waterresistance is a steel!!!
    … and don’t forget the 70h of power reserve and the antimagnetic silicone hairspring from the L8.88 movement

I like the Longines Spirit watches I have the earlier 1915 styled one Longines made recently with the 41mm Cushion case, also a current favourite is the L2.793.4.92.0 40mm with Blue dial, very simple but much like the classic Seiko 5 from the 70s in some ways, another favourite of mine in blue! I bought the Longines Heritage Marine Nationale. It is amazing. The dial and hands change appearance during the various lights of the day. Unlike most I like how the lugs do not taper down-maybe because my wrist is large enough that it makes the 38mm seem larger. I covet owning one of each of the heritage line. I wonder if Longines puts 30m water resistance, whereas it is actually more, to help with the warranty (making us nervous of water).

    Dear Tim I hate to burst your bubble of optimism, but I bought a Conquest Chrono and within a week the tin foil thick 'medallion' on the back had fallen off. Luckily this happened as I was putting the watch on and so it was not MIA. Still, it did not inspire me with confidence so I find it hard to wear the watch with trust. I should have reapplied it an acrylic glue, but laziness got the better of me. I now hardly dare wear it, never knowing when it will give me the slip.
    By the way, thanks for the tunes.

The Longines is beautiful, but seems thicker than it needs to be, and only 30M water resistance. The Oris in blue grey does not come in 36mm, just 38 (or is it 40?) . Both watches are great, none are perfect for me.

    Longines Heritage collection is probably my favorites in their modern catalog. My fave in your presentation is probably the tuxedo small seconds. I also really like the tuxedo chronograph version.
    Not included in your video, of course, their sector dial is awesome. I also kind of like their copper dial with small seconds.. although, I think the shade of copper they use is maybr a little too light.. looks almost more gold.. could use a little more warm with a touch more red/orange to make it closer to what I see as more of a true copper color.
    Their Big Eye chronographs are another awesome value..I don't think I've ever seen anything bad about that and seems to be universally appreciated.

    These are good picks... I'd probably ditch the tuxedo and put in the Avigation Big Eye.

    Great video Tim - I have to say my favorite Longines in my collection is the Admiral from 1970 (reference 8581) - I was able to find a NOS example with the original vintage signed bracelet. Such an amazingly cool watch. Loved the tune at the end - you have true mastery of that Django style.

    Hi I have two Longines watch’s, the Spirit 40mm Blue and the Flagship Heritage. I love them, but perhaps both watches would be better without the date. Longines don’t attract love of some brands mainly because they produce a lot of very average modern dress watches which dominate the shop window displays . If I was running Longines I would thin these dress watch lines out, replace the Conquest diver with a better model perhaps more in the Oris Aquis style. I would also go big on the Spirit range with more sizes reduced lug to lug models. Then up the Heritage range.

    Been looking at Longines for a while now, want to add 1 or more to my collection, but the catalogue is so deep and wonderful it’s hard to narrow it down. I do love the new Spirit titanium though, wow.

    Great Friday upload CBTim.
    IMHO Longines are pretty much unsurpassed as far as Heritage re-issues go.
    Personally, it’s the chronographs that do it for me: the Heritage Classic and (of course) the Aviation Big Eye.
    I’m sure I won’t be the only one to mention these two!
    Tim, are you able to check out the Certina re-issue of the DS Chronograph Automatic? If you like the look of it maybe see if you can get hands on with one? I think it’s a great option for your larger wristed viewers and its 40’s looks will likely appeal to most of us.
    Cheers and best Tim.

      I have the Certina DS Automatic Chronograph, and it's a fantastic watch. Would be great if Tim did a review of it.

      @@maninthestreet01 Nice to hear. It's on my shopping list for this year.
      Certina are another Swatch Grp. brand that do heritage re-issues very well. My DS PH200M is a great watch, and (imho) outshines the Oris 65 series, C. Ward etc. as far as brand history and heritage, quality and aesthetics - at under half the price. *Very* underrated brand.

    From your video I really like the tuxedo watch at the end. Other Longines watches I like are the Hydroconquest, the Avigation BigEye, and the Heritage Classic Sector Dial.

    When it comes to dress watches, I completely agree that Longines Heritage is the way to go, best value for money for sure. When it comes to divers, Seiko comes to mind as well.

    • @deansusec8745

      Oris for divers. Longines for dress watches. Seiko for beater diver (SKX) and you are STILL below an omega or rolex!

    good call on these. but don't everyone dismiss the original vintage versions which can be super cheap - I have a Longines Admiral five star automatic 36mm with original Longines mesh bracelet from the early 70s (I think), it probably gets the most comments of any of my watches (my wife's favourite too). I bought in a bag of used watches at an auction in about 2007 so got it for virtually nothing once I'd sold the others on eBay - still looks great and I often wear it. I think I last serviced it about 8 years ago and it keeps time to within a minute or two per day. ETA movements are so easy to service.
