    Just FYI, those FJ40 axles are really sought after by the Suzuki Samurai crowd. The offset rear diff makes them a great fit in the samurai. So when you sell them, you might target some of the local groups.

    I’d say your on your way to custom front frame rails for sure. It’s going to great, it’s only metal. I have faith in your fabrication skills!

    I called it. Look into a CJ sty;e front driveshaft, they are smaller in diameter and give more clearance and handle V8 hp.

    That depends on which side you mount the panhard bar.

  • @rcsanks
    @rcsanks ปีที่แล้ว +1

    When you stuff drivers side the passenger side naturally will droop and that will cause the axle to pull towards drivers side at some rate so I’d say it probably won’t pull away from the the frame much if at all. When drivers is full stuff and passenger is full droop it’ll really want to pull towards frame so you’ll need to keep that in mind as well. at full stuff on both sides it will pull away from frame. For the axle to move in the curve your hoping for you’d have to run triangulated 4 link to keep center of axle in center of frame and then each side will swing in an equal curve. But then you’ll be running full hydro steering . Hope this is some help

    For some odd reason, Dana 50 axles were used on early F350 super duty trucks as well. I think the option was "extra heavy duty suspension" that gave you the 60 up front.

    • @austinniemela
      @austinniemela  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Strange how they did that!!

    Get an RC rock crawler with a chassis mounted servo and it will have a 3link with panhard bar. It will show you how the axle moves. It moves the most when the whole chassis moves up and down.

      He used the older king pin D60. The diff is like 3" more towards the center of the axle.

    Dig all ur previous builds. But this is really interesting. Didn’t u say this going to b a slight upgrade build? Was thinking then. Kind of disappointed. But u know u can’t just do a easy build. Can’t wait for each vid and choice of upgrades. Fab work. Everything. Thx for great content and camera/editing quality.

    This build is insane and i love it so much...will you have merch with this on it?

  • @MonkeyWithAWrench
    @MonkeyWithAWrench ปีที่แล้ว +3

    That particular dana 60 is WAY offset. With the 3 link setup, if it has correct geometry then it won't move much laterally. the panhard bar will move on an arc of course, but when you droop out one side, and stuff the other it will end up hitting. Basically, if the panhard bar is attached on the drivers side to the chassis and passenger side on the axle, the axle will only move laterally when the passenger side is moved up or down causing the ling to travel in its arc. The driver side will not affect it much.
    It might be better to swap axles... again... 60's are getting expensive though. But if you narrow the passenger side 2 inches, scoot it over 1 inch, then slap some spacers on it you might get away without changing the rear width.

    • @edmartini9724
      @edmartini9724 ปีที่แล้ว

      It would work great if it was about a foot narrower on the passenger side.

    • @abpsd73
      @abpsd73 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yup, a 78/79 Dana 60 would have been high pinion and the pumpkin would be about 3" closer to the center.

    • @bradywilliams2666
      @bradywilliams2666 ปีที่แล้ว

      Getting really hard to find and they are $$$$.

  • @bradywilliams2666
    @bradywilliams2666 ปีที่แล้ว

    Don't quote me. But I believe the 2005 Super duty D60's have a diff. that is closer to the center. I can't seem to find actual figures. But this is what we put in my buddy's JK. Frame is wider on these, so no issues. These are way beefier from the knuckles out. The older King pin Ford D60's are for sure. But finding one of them is about impossible anymore.
    As for a 3 link design . The suspension will rotate on the center axis. How much depends on lots of variables. IE link length, link angles, tracbar length and angles. All you can do is mock everything up and cycle the suspension. You may get lucky and not hit the frame or maybe need to just notch the frame a bit.
    As for the D50. They are the same as the D60 of the same yr from the knuckles out. Same axle joint and outer shaft, wheel bearings, brakes, etc.. I have a couple that are going to be use to make a couple of rear steer axles. 14 bolt Chevy rear with D50 knuckles.
