Fun fact: in this time period schizophrenia was the most common dignosis at the time despite not having specified criteria. It was a popular umbrella diagnosis (especially for women). Shelia probably had untreated post-partum.
So glad you guys found this case to be as interesting as I did! I’m so sorry that at one point I said America! 😂 i’ve been filming at night for these crimetober videos for added spooky affect and my brain becomes mush throughout the day unfortunately 😂
My one biggest thought is, how was she able to shoot herself 3 times, hide the silencer, then move back to the spot she died with the gun on top of her? There's no way she killed herself, it's really a great thing that he will never be free after killing all of them for his own gain. Absolutely tragic.
Julie: I suspect my boyfriend is a literal murderer who killed his own family. That’s not a dealbreaker though. Jeremy: *has a side hoe* Julie: actually, 911?
@@highlandgirl84 22:25 Jeremy had been cheating on her. I used the term side hoe as a callback to the earlier terminology at your time stamp. Please don’t assume that I didn’t listen properly when I simply used different words than Kendall did.
The way that she storytells is incredible. Begins with backstory about Jeremy, then introduces the sisters emotional issues (leaving us questioning whether or not it was her). Then continues to make it seem like the sister was responsible but finishes w the plot twist! I love it
I agree 10000% , I've been watching her videos for a couple years now.. shes very well spoken and she makes every video so interesting to watch.. I've learned a lot abut some true crime cases just because of how much I love watching her videos. its like im learning something new while getting the entertainment I want lol
It was so frustrating how the police treated and contaminated the crime scene after immediately deciding that it was a murder-suicide. The show already aired here in Canada months ago...I highly recommend it!! Freddie Fox was amazing as Jeremy...he was suitably creepy and looked exactly like him in those clips from the funeral. And Mark Addy was fantastic as the tenacious detective who refused to believe that Sheila had killed her family then herself.
The "daytime foster care" is called respite housing. It's used to help kids with behavior issues by placing them into the care of people who can help more than the parents, an before the step of psychiatric hospitalization. I went to a few, because I struggled with mental health too.
Former foster youth here! Actually, that's not entirely true. Respite care is what daytime foster care is, however it's more accurate to say it's a temporary foster home. It is not for children with issues at all, it is for when full-time foster parents need a break-- a vacation, a weekend off, etc -- and none of their family is registered to care for their wards. The children will temporarily be placed with another family while waiting for their full-time foster parent(s) to return. This can just be for one day, a weekend, or I believe even up to 30 days in some cases.
So he told his girlfriend that he wanted to shoot his whole family, including the baby boys, and she didn't say anything until he cheated on her wayyyyyy later?
@Tiffany F. it wasn’t just her testimony, a lot of people noticed his bizarre behavior and he definitely deserves prison. She is a shitty person though
As a Christian, I'm going to be straight forward about this, pushing religion on anybody, like forcing it, will always backfire, you cannot force that on anybody no matter what religion it is. You don't do that, ever. Edit: because there has been a couple people who didn't understand what I meant here, I'm not saying don't expose and treat your children your religious views and values, I'm not saying hide all other religious types and values from them, what I'm saying is don't shove it down their throats and demand it from them if they don't feel the same way as you do for it, that's how you push them away not only from those religious preferences and views, but also from yourself. If you want them to believe the same as you don't force it, but encourage it, there's a difference.
So glad to see this comment. I’m the only one in my family who didn’t stay in my Catholic faith after being raised in a strict Catholic family. I went through some personal things that made me question my faith and my final straw was when a priest in our church told me I wasn’t able to minister for our church because I was a newly single mom trying to get back in my faith. To this day my family still tells me I need to get over it and come back, mostly for their sake. Like no, sorry. Been through more than anyone in my family in their lives and trying to make me feel bad for not practicing my faith in a traditional way will never make me wanna return to the church. Haven’t really lost my faith completely and trying to get back into practicing my Christian faith to role model it for my boys but I will never force them to be anything they don’t want to be.
@@maryssa8593 I don't practice under any certain Christian beliefs, but I was raised more of a relaxed Baptist and I go to a relaxed Methodist Church (occasionally, I moved an hour away but it's the one that makes me feel most at home if that makes sense, but recently everything has been on TH-cam to watch), but I personally believe it's between me and the Lord, I try to do what I know he wants me to do and live the way he wants and at the end of the day I believe it's between him and I. I find that each of the certain Christian beliefs have different certain rules that I just don't agree to because that's not what we're told to do/believe in the Bible.
as a fellow Christian as well, I can 100% agree with you. It will never work. You educate your kids on your beliefs spiritually, but forcing them to believe something and do/not do certain things without them understanding WHY leads to blind faith. So many "Christian" parents force it, I am glad mine did not do it that way and now I am a firm believer myself with an actual understanding / mind of my own.
exactly! my grandma tries to force christianity on our whole family and it’s only backfired. my ex bf tried to force it on me too which is funny bc he isn’t christian at all and is in jail for trying to hurt his grandparents while on drugs
It's not uncommon for children who are perceived as odd/strange/cruel to be bullied (unless the other kids actually fear for their lives); also, since he already was traumatised, he probably lacked self-esteem and held a lot of wrong beliefs about himself - which C A N make you a target for bullying... :/

maybe she had something to do with it, if she was with Jeremy for 2 years then she may have gotten greedy and planned it with him but once she found out he cheated she told the police it was all his fault and he just wanted to protect her.
I’m from the UK and have watched many documentaries, read a lot of material about this case. One documentary that stuck out to me said that when the police were in the house, there was movement sound coming from the upper part of the house, and that the bodies were moving around - how can bodies move if they’re dead? Also, it was suggested that the bodies were even documented to be in completely different rooms in the house, compared to the crime scene notes. It’s such a compelling case. The police definitely did not handle the evidence correctly and should have gone into the building sooner. Thanks for covering this 👍🏻🌸
Hiya, I'm from Scotland and I just wanted to say that I think the reason the police didn't enter the house as soon as they arrived was that she was said to have a gun and the UK police force don't carry guns. So they would have walked into a bad situation where she could have shot them all. In the UK we have a special police force that is authorised to use guns but they don't respond to 999 calls. They are only come out when they are deemed necessary. I don't think they are at every police station either so it can take time for them to get there. I also don't agree with how the evidence was handled by the Police. It seemed they just accepted that it was straight forward case without actually looking at it in a bit more detail.
I've heard this before but as an American Im so used to the police having guns (as well as tasers and batons) that I completely forgot that other countries police dont carry guns.
I wish I could heart your comment ❤ Also, as far as I knew ITV made the drama series, not HBO, I could be wrong. Did you watch it when it was on telly?
@@rachel_ellingson that's okay! I don't expect you to remember, and I mean that in the nicest way. Our countries are different and with most True Crime that is covered I completely understand how it can be easy to forget! 💜
The second you mentioned Jeremy's pranks, I went "So we've got a little sociopath on our hands". And then listening to what happened at the funeral... that just confirmed it for me. Jeremy was a full blown sociopath.
@@doxasophosmoros you’re outta your damn mind lol Jeremy was 100% a sociopathic fuck who murdered his family and tried to frame his sister. He was always the loser child. His birth family was lucky for dumping his ass off at birth.
also I think it's just an English thing too. You don't want to call 999 because you don't want to be a burden and make a big deal out of somethingIapologised because I was obviously a burden lol.
Right. And this is the 80s and rural, someone's honest first thought probably would be to phone the local police station where they probably know the police, rather than using the impersonal emergency number. It would probably get you a quicker response time, even.
Sounds like Jeremy’s girlfriend knew he did it ALL along and only told the police when he cheated on her she was sus too. Also it’s crazy that not only was the mom mentally ill but so was the two adopted children. It’s weird how this happened I doubt their childhood was that great.
Exactly what I said! She knew, didn't care because her boyfriend just inherited all of that money, businesses and property. She wanted parts of it until she found out he cheated then all of a sudden she is a Saint?
Nurture plays a huge role as much as nature does. She grew up being called "the devil's child" so she mirrored that with her own children. Growing up with a parent that mentally ill can really mess someone up, even if they aren't biologically related.
Yes their childhood wasn't probably that great, you can tell it from the photos of Jeremy as a child, there are very few where he's smiling even with his eyes, as he usually smiles only with the lips.
I 100% think Jeremy did this, it seems like he was just so narcissistic that he thought he was way smarter than police and would never get caught. But the fact that his girlfriend didn’t raise the alarm after he threatened to kill them MULTIPLE TIMES is just bizarre, then literally only came forward after he cheated to get revenge?! Who knows if she’d even have said anything if he hadn’t!

After reading up about this and watching numerous shows and videos about it I definitely think that Jeremy did it. If it wasn't for his cousins and one determined police officer it would never of been solved.
You need to look at the evidence rather than TV dramas and incorrect TH-cam videos. Do you know his cousins inherited all the money? Do you know they stood to inherit nothing if Jeremy wasn't convicted? Do you know that NO silencer was used in the crimes? Do you know the judge misdirected the jury TWICE during their deliberations? I was super torn on this case til I watched a documentary recently called ‘HMP Wakefield: Evil Behind Bars’ and it interviews a prisoner and lead guard, and they both say that Jeremy Bamber is extremely evil and manipulative! Definitely one to check out if you can find it! Goes into depth about the most evil killers that are imprisoned there!
Uh....the girlfriend is JUST AS GUILTY as Jeremy. IF it's even true. And if what Julia says is even true she ONLY told on him because she found out he was cheating on her. Sick.
The series was brilliant, this was a terrible murder, him trying to blame his sister the git! Jeremy Bamber a name well known here in UK, yes the campsite is still in the family I believe.
I knew Jeremy would be a problem when i found out he was sent to boarding school and couldn't get along with anyone & resented his parents. Even in the footage you can see he's a psychopath with those smiles to the camera while he's being arrested
I absolutely love how Kendall tells stories!! She says them in a way where it's impossible to stop listening! But on the subjuct of this crime, I think Julie is really really suspicious. Like what if she helped him kill them and when he cheated on her, she made it seem as though it was all him... But then again I guess he would've mentioned that to defend himself. I don't think Sheila is guilty. But I do suspect Jeremy and Julie! Thanks for this Kendall!!
...because they were called to a scene where they were told a woman was "going berserk with a gun"? I'm not sure why Kendall didn't clue in to that.. That's why they had a megaphone, they obviously thought it was a hostage situation or at least that the suspect was armed and extremely dangerous.
living room yes of course, but they waited HOURS outside without hearing one thing from inside. So you're telling me for hours they were just yelling at the house with no response back?
You should bear in mind that our police aren't armed, only specially trained armed units carry guns, so entering the house when there could potentially be an armed assailant is too much of a risk.
I work in mental health and I have a client who received electroshock. She was no where near extreme enough to need it and it really messed her up. She had memory problems and deteriorated a lot faster and eventually had to be moved to a nursing home. My boyfriend’s mother also was given electroshock and she was also no where near severe enough. It is still an abused practice.
My grandpa was helped by electrotherapy. He was a big alcoholic and his wife that kept his life going despite his drinking died before him. I've never seen him as happy as he was after and he got cleaning help so can't really say if it was the electroshock or just that he was happy to have help.
Jeremy did it! The fathers defensive wounds in an attempt to fight off the shooter is evidence enough. He had the motive, the means & the opportunity. He’s right where he belongs.
I’m not saying he did it, but he did it. He drove slowly to the scene, his gun was involved, the silencer was hidden in his possession, he sold all his families things, and tried to sell his deceased sisters pictures and he was caught putting on a show for the cameras. He also ran when he had no alibi. A guilty person doesn’t run. They cooperate with the police 💯 They lawyer up and stay to fight their case if he is being “falsely accused and they work with the police telling everything they know.” The police got the right guy

Just to clarify a few things. Suspects cannot bail themselves out with money in the UK. That decision is made by our police officers and/or the Crown Prosecution Service. Also, the reason police would have waited a while to enter, is because officers over here do not carry firearms. A standard response unit would have responded, and waited further instruction from the firearm squad. It being 1980's, our firearm units would have been far and few between the capital. The initial unit would have 1000% waited for trojan (our firearm squad) to arrive before taking further instruction.
This is interesting because the reason he would've been bailed out in the US is cause he's rich. He'd have the $ for bail & he'd have the money for a great lawyer to argue why he should be free during trial.
This is a two-part question: 1.) Just curious what you mean when you say in the UK people can't bail themselves out with money? Do you mean collateral only or someone else has to bail them out or what? I'm not being sarcastic; I don't live there so I actually just don't know. Sorry 2.) Your standard police officers don't carry guns on duty?
In that case it actually seems kinda crazy that the regular officers even respond to calls like this when it's obvious that there is not going to be anything that they can do to remedy the situation. This should automatically be a call for the gun carrying officers right?!!
@@heather4767 @Heather Sackett hi Heather. Bail is not an option on the table for any suspect here. Once they have been arrested, they can be held for up to 24hrs, so that they can be questioned and to enable police to investigate and efficiently come up with an outcome during that window. A bail application only comes into effect, if police do not have enough evidence to charge a suspect AND they suspect there is sufficient outstanding evidence for them to seek. In that instance the police bail the suspect, with instructions to return in 28 days time. On their return date, the suspect can be re-interviewed and his or her outcome will be told, i.e. Charged or no further action taken against them. In some circumstances, the crime has to be referred to the CPS (Crown Prosecution Service) who are basically well trained lawyers who work on behalf of the courts. They make the same judgement as an officer in regards to, is there enough evidence to charge and bail. And no. Officers here do not carry guns. We have specialised teams who are advanced trained in firearms. Standard officers can be trained to carry a tazer, but at the time of writing this, tazers are not a mandatory piece of equipment officers carry. This is why our death by police numbers are incredibly low, compared to the states. Hope that's cleared things up a little.
So did his girlfriend get off free? Because sounds like she knew a lot about all of this and probably even could have prevented the whole thing...(since I'm sure we all agree that Jeremy did it, right?)
He definitely did it! Also it irks me that his girlfriend most likely knew he did this the whole time but didn’t say anything until he cheated on her. Hands down she would have never said anything if he stayed faithful.
In Switzerland they even call it Business Administration or management assistant and it's super popular and respected but you end up just doing secretary work😂
Where I live in Canada, it depends on the course an individual is interested in, and the technical Institute they attend. For example, if one is wanting to work in a medical office, it can be either the Medical Assistant course, or the Medical Administration course they take. Same goes for law offices etc.
Imagine being so rich and having a partner to spend a beautiful life with but you want to do good and give 2 kids a home and one of them ends up ending your life for your money This is just terrifying!!!
There are people who do not want to adopt children precisely for this reason, because they believe that nature can sometimes be stronger than nurture. I think we have all seen cases where children abandoned or changed at birth, raised by another family, meet their biological parents and discover they have a lot of things in common (certain gestures, tastes, reactions etc), although they have never seen each other before. I believe that both nature and nurture have an influence on us, in different proportions, depending on the individual.
@@depgabby Yeah not to mention how the mom forced the kids to be religious. That must be so annoying, my dad is religious and when I was younger my parents tried to force religion on me. But they understood at some point that it’s useless and I won’t listen so they stopped.
My question is did they want to do good or did they a) really want children badly, b) rant to look good to the community, or perhaps all of the above? I'm always a bit sceptical, especially with adoption, especially since there are too many cases of ulterior motives or where the already traumatised children get abused ....
I feel so bad that even post mortem the sister's mental health was mocked. it was definitely Jeremy, just because someone is schizophrenic doesn't make them capable of that. such an incredibly sad story.
i actually live about 10 minutes away from the farm. a lot of the older people in my area either knew the Bambers before the murders, or met jeremy some point during the trial. my own grandmother actually worked as a secretary in a solicitor’s office and met jeremy so this case has always really interested me!

Will you do the case “Death at Mile Marker 181”?? It happened close to my town when I was younger and it’s a crazyyy story! I love your channel so much!!! ❤️
The police said they thought they seen a figure moving upstairs, but then agreed it was probably a trick of the light. If you look it up though a police officer who arrived first still stands by that it looks like someone was up the stairs. However if that was Sheila, they’d have heard the gunshots surely, since the silencer was removed. However again, the silencer was found by the cousin, who stood to inherit the lot if Jeremy was out of the picture. Who lives at White House farm now? The cousin who incriminated Jeremy. I think Jeremy probably did do it, just a really interesting case.
My Mother is what most people would consider wealthy. My late father and my mother worked hard for that money and gave me, my brother and sister everything we needed (Not wanted). After my dad died me being the oldest she often asks me about certain things. She wanted to buy a home in a warm climate for the winter, or she wanted to buy a new car, or give money to my niece and her husband towards a house. I always say the same thing "It's your money, all I ask is leave enough to bury you and buy a nice headstone" (that's kind of a joke between us). Why would someone murder their parents that had given them life and a good one at that? This Jeremy guy makes me sick.
For me, I think he did it because of the silencer, driving slowly for no reason, behavior in childhood (the rats in pockets to torture his mom), the family feeling like he was smiling and putting on an act, and while it could have happened, I doubt the sister shot herself 3 times. And what? She took off the silencer to kill herself? Seems rather unlikely. The girlfriend could be telling the truth or lying, but if the call records line up with when she said he called, I believe her.
FYI I would thoroughly recommend watching the mini series but it wasnt made by HBO it was made and screened here in the U.K by ITV - HBO just knicked it as usual :) Btw he was absolutely 100% solely guilty.
I only heard about this case when the show was on. It’s literally a few towns away from me. I work in Chelmsford and pass that Police station a lot. They also had my town in the show as one of the train stations the characters were at in one of the episodes which is about a 10 minute walk from my house. The murder house is also currently up for sale and my in-laws didn’t realise and nearly bought it because it was so cheap! Really weird when you find out about these sort of things happening so close to home. My dad also said he knew the killer as well (not very well, more just knew of them and would see them about) as they used to live near each other.
Jeremy did it. 1) Who doesn't call emergency 999, after receiving a call from their Dad about a frenzied gun attack?! 2) His slow journey to the farm with the police 3) Stacks of odd behaviour. Being duplicitous at the funeral, trying to sell his late sisters nude pics, the bragging and rapid asset stripping of the house 4) History of abuse leading to his being sociopathic 5) He conveniently left his own loaded gun at the house 6) the struggle between Mr Bamber Snr and his assailant. Not likely to have been overpowered by a dainty woman vs his large frame 7) Detail that was omitted from this video: the kitchen window had an open latch, providing escape route from the murders 8) silencer with the blood on it
I was wondering why she said that too. Wasnt sure if it was just a mistake or somehow I missed something that happened earlier lol! Got a little confused for a few minutes 😅
Furthermore on those phones, right next to the non-emergency numbers in brackets was: (in an in emergency call 999). It was to stop people who may of been frantic to call 999 when looking for the phone number for an emergency
The non emergency number in the UK is 101 and it’s quite well known so I doubt he would’ve needed to look it up and many people use it even when they shouldn’t because they worry about blocking 999 calls from people who need it more ..... however if I had just received a call saying my mentally ill sister had a gun on the rest of my family I wouldn’t be worried about being polite?!?
If you watch the Netflix documentary (we have it in the UK dunno about US), the fact he’d have to go through a phone book is heavily highlighted. And how it says under the number ring 999 in an emergency.
He absolutely did it, that story about him playing on his mother's fears like that as a kid...so creepy no empathy there

There's no way she killed herself, it's really a great thing that he will never be free after killing all of them for his own gain. Absolutely tragic.

The "daytime foster care" is called respite housing. It's used to help kids with behavior issues by placing them into the care of people who can help more than the parents, an before the step of psychiatric hospitalization. I went to a few, because I struggled with mental health too.
Thanks! I was looking for clarification on the "daytime foster care"
Thank you for providing an answer! How hope you're doing well!

Yes

I’m from the UK and have watched many documentaries, read a lot of material about this case. One documentary that stuck out to me said that when the police were in the house, there was movement sound coming from the upper part of the house, and that the bodies were moving around - how can bodies move if they’re dead? Also, it was suggested that the bodies were even documented to be in completely different rooms in the house, compared to the crime scene notes. It’s such a compelling case. The police definitely did not handle the evidence correctly and should have gone into the building sooner. Thanks for covering this 👍🏻🌸
The movement might have been the dog
I think Jeremy did it slowed down the car there might have been some one in the house moving the body’s and left the house through the window
Thanks for pointing that out. As an American I forget not all police carry guns.
I've heard this before but as an American Im so used to the police having guns (as well as tasers and batons) that I completely forgot that other countries police dont carry guns.

Really unfair case, it's complete injustice and covered up by Essex police to this day- go look up which evidence they burnt for yaself! . There's so much more- go educate yourself before lying and perpetrating falsehoods! 😡😩

Thank you for clarifying that! I was wondering why they waited. This makes sense.
This is interesting because the reason he would've been bailed out in the US is cause he's rich. He'd have the $ for bail & he'd have the money for a great lawyer to argue why he should be free during trial.
This is a two-part question:
1.) Just curious what you mean when you say in the UK people can't bail themselves out with money? Do you mean collateral only or someone else has to bail them out or what? I'm not being sarcastic; I don't live there so I actually just don't know. Sorry
2.) Your standard police officers don't carry guns on duty?

The girlfriend knew the whole time. She was angry at him for cheating but she knew.
Yep and waited. She dobbed him in because he didn't want her. I think if what he said was true, she should have said ASAP after the murders.
Lol I love how his gfs final straw was not the fact that he potentially murdered his entire family, but that he was cheating on her. Like wow.

Imagine being so rich and having a partner to spend a beautiful life with but you want to do good and give 2 kids a home and one of them ends up ending your life for your money
This is just terrifying!!!
With how both kids turned out, I’m not sure the parents were amazing people either...
@@depgabby Yeah not to mention how the mom forced the kids to be religious. That must be so annoying, my dad is religious and when I was younger my parents tried to force religion on me. But they understood at some point that it’s useless and I won’t listen so they stopped.
@@noelsmaison685 it’s not even just annoying they’re probably both suffering from religious trauma

Fun fact: the actress playing Sheila in this TV series is Prince Harry’s ex girlfriend, it aired in the UK last year and it’s so well done
It was so good! I wonder if the evidence was really put in the kitchen paper roll in real life!
I didn't know that. She was a very good actress! The scene in the bathroom when she is having a breakdown at the party in ep.1 was some brilliant acting.
Another fun fact. The member of the Buckingham Palace staff who announced Prince Harry’s birth in 1984 was Jeremy Bamber’s natural father 😳

Anyone else here from the UK and have already watched the series on itv?🙋🏽♀️
Me i from barnsley and see it
I live right near here & this is the first time I've heard it?! Lol
Jeremy did it... no doubt in my mind.
I already binged this series on HBO and I can tell you it's so good
Jeremy did it.
1) Who doesn't call emergency 999, after receiving a call from their Dad about a frenzied gun attack?!
2) His slow journey to the farm with the police
3) Stacks of odd behaviour. Being duplicitous at the funeral, trying to sell his late sisters nude pics, the bragging and rapid asset stripping of the house
4) History of abuse leading to his being sociopathic
5) He conveniently left his own loaded gun at the house
6) the struggle between Mr Bamber Snr and his assailant. Not likely to have been overpowered by a dainty woman vs his large frame
7) Detail that was omitted from this video: the kitchen window had an open latch, providing escape route from the murders
8) silencer with the blood on it
I’m so glad you did this one I live 15 mins away from white farm house

DNA profiling was first proposed in 1984. It was then professional used in 1986 in the Colin Pitchfork case. This is in the UK in anyway.

The fact that he called the non-emergency number is real suspicious. That is a phone number that he would have to pull out a phone book and look up.
