    Could you imagine with the plastic junk that they make now and push out that breaks within a year or two. The quality and workmanship that went into these vintage machines.

    There are still Maytag,GE, Whirlpool/Kenmores from this era still operating yet I don't see any Kelvinators this old still going. WCI cheapened everything they got their hands on. Though I like the very detailed explanation for this machine. No manufacturer does that now that I know of.

      That's the truth! They destroyed Westinghouse, Frigidaire, Kelvinator, Vikding, Tappan, Gibson. Anyone that knows anything about appliances knows the indexing basket was a design of Westinghouse. The transmission they talk about is the Franklin Transmission WCI acquired by the purchase of the appliance division of Westinghouse Electric. Now WCI is owned by Electrolux USA, who is now owned by the Eureka vacuum cleaner company.

    These washed really good according to how you load them, for best results don't string clothes around the agitator because clothes will tend to " skate " across the vanes instead of being scrubbed by them

    I think this is probably my most favorite design of the WCI washers! I think they would have effective washing action sans the indexing tub.

    • @imperiallebaron2391

      That indexing tub was a Westinghouse design. Because Frigidaire and Westinghouse appliance divisions were bought by White Consolidated Industries (originally the White Sewing Machine Company) they based Frigidaire and Kelvinator washers on the Westinghouse design with a strait vane agitator. If they used the Westinghouse deep ramp agitator design, the turnover would be much better.

    Indexing hinders all or any agitator, it prevents the effective turnover...Kelvinator washer index rotation arc is 90 degrees...the Ten-Vane agitator still manages to pull the clothes down into the tub (if you look carefully)...so if they decreased it to a 45 degree arc, the around and around spinning would practically stop...imagine if there was no indexing, the "angel-wings" vanes on top and the larger lower vanes could turnover anything it washes

    • @imperiallebaron2391
      @imperiallebaron2391 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Wrong. The indexing basket was a design of Westinghouse Electric. I know this for a fact because after WCI acquired the appliance division of Westinghouse all of the washers built by WCI were based on the westinghouse. As for the indexing tub, my Grandmother purchased a 1965 Westinghouse Multi-Program Laundromat top loader with a 3 3/4 inch deep ramp agitator and her machine turned the load over quite well. The Westinghouse transmission had no type of brake system and torque turn caused the indexing of the tub. But you are correct as far as any type of strait vane type of agitator.
