I've been so stressed about my personal profile and this has really helped. With that being said would you be willing to proofread and make any suggestions or comments about my paragraphs before the early application deadline?
I just finished my essays and the video was really helpful. This video has been released for a long time, but can I still ask you to read my responses? Thanks.
Hi! I did apply to Western's Science program as well as their integrated science program. For students who live outside of Ontario, we have to apply through the OUAC. Not sure if that is the same for students within Ontario? Overall, the application was very simple, I think I filled out a couple questions specifically for integrated science and that was it! Hope that helps!
Hi Armaan! I’m sorry but I’m not comfortable sharing my personal profile - there have been instances where prospective students have used the sentences I shared in my videos verbatim in their personal profile. Thanks for understanding! Hopefully this series can help you work through your personal profile!
Hey I wrote that I was most proud of winning an inter school cooking competition, but feel that's a little vague and not big enough should I write about something else?
Hello Harsh! I can't tell you what to write about... I can't tell you exactly what UBC is looking for either. If you are most proud of winning your cooking competition, talk about that! Just make sure you are highlighting what you learned from that experience and how that connects to other aspects of your personal profile. You are right in saying that just stating you are proud of winning that competition is vague - what did winning mean for you? Hope that helps!
she is way too busy for that i think she might be taking midterms. talk to a college counsler, English teacher or hire a college counsler to help with your college application
Hi! I have been getting a lot of questions about this! You are welcome to send it to me, but I can't guarantee I will be able to read it... third year is intense! I will do my best though - send me an email and I will see what I can do 😊 Otherwise, counsellors, teachers, parents, and friends are great options too.
A small question, how can I prevent myself from repeating myself. For example, in your essay you talked about the vice principal calling you up for being a counsellor, in my case my head of year called me up to create a anti-cyberbullying presentation and also told me that I should do Business lessons on entrepreneurship for younger students. This was as a result of my writing of a book for younger students. So the problem is, I wanna talk about this later on in my extracurriculars too cuz its a major thing; writing a book. Should I refrain from mentioning it in the 'Tell me about yourself' essay or just touch upon it; releasing full details later on. Thank you so much for your videos and if you answer this, you will make my life!
They may changed that! Either way, stick to the number of characters or words they tell you. Brainstorming is really helpful to avoid repetition! That way you have identified all possibilities for your response and can pick which is most appropriate!
Hi! I did do early applications, but because I applied for the MM dual degree as well, I was not admitted until march. From what I've been told, they usually evaluate the dual degree end of things much later. I had tones of friends apply for early admissions with similar averages to mine and they all got in early!
hi :) this video is very helpful. thank you for sharing your experience. i have a question. do your think its ganna be boring if i put too long story of my life on the first question asking how i overcome an unfamiliar situation? i am not sure how long the answer should be.
Hi I am glad to hear it! There should be a word count associated with each question. Pay attention to those :) Usually it is about 250 words or so but some vary.
Hi. I'm just starting my Personal Profile. Quick question: if I include what my accomplishments and what I've learnt from them in my response to this question, wouldn't I be repeating myself when I get to the extracurricular portion of the personal profile?
Great question - the extra curricular section of the personal profile (if I remember correctly) only gives you about 50 words to describe each activity. If there is one or two you want to talk about more in depth then go for it! I would not dedicate this whole question to talking about extracurriculars are, though. They can be part of it, but it may be more fitting to address them in a different question.
Hey. Thank you for the reply to my question, but I don’t think you understood it. I asked this because in this video, you advised us to answer the question "what have you done, what have you learned and how has that made you who you are today?" ( 2:38 ).
@@davinaelesin4237 This section is very different from the extracurricular section so in theory, you shouldn't be repeating yourself. You can certainly speak to some of your extracurricular experiences in the "what have you done, what have you learned and how has that made you who you are today?" section if they have in fact contributed to your growth. The extracurricular section doesn't give you space to dive deep or reflect in the same way. Not sure if that clears things up? Not sure how else to answer your question. Keep in mind the personal profile may have changed in the past 4 years so best to check UBC's website for any major changes!
