I just wanted to say massive thank you for all your advice. I recently got into my dream school Stanford and I absolutely couldn’t have done it without your videos
I would recommend picking a hobby or a passion that you are super interested in and can somehow relate parts of your major to. One of my friends wrote about Magic the Gathering and how it connects to their interest as a business major!
It's often the things you take interest in that you'd consider "boring" or "weird" to other people that actually make your essay shine with personality. Have a hyper-fixation on a favorite artist? Talk about how that artist moved you and extend on that to talk about how you want to reciprocate that energy to someone else in your community or in the world. Are you into certain subjects like astrology, dystopian fiction, social/political justice, collecting things, etc.? It doesn't have to directly relate to your academics or your major. All they want to see is a multidimensional personality and how that personality can add to a community, whether it be professionally or recreationally.
This video is so amazing thank you so much! As a highschool student (I’m not disclosing too much info), I keep stressing about getting into a good university, or really, getting REJECTED from a good university. I have extremely well grades, participate in extracurriculars-that sort of repetitive mumbo jumbo. However, now I take comfort knowing that college admission officers accept in people not ROBOTS.
You seem so passionate throughout this whole video, it's really inspiring. Thank you for everything you've shared with us, it has helped me so much! I hope you keep making more amazing videos like this
great video as always man! As a student who's already been thru this process, these tips are spot on. Just one thing I would say is if your going to list your ECs, have a purpose in doing so. Its one thing to just list them out to "flex them" and another to actually tie them to ur passions. Just be aware of the way you present urself in the essay.
Thank you this was very helpful. I keep stressing about college essays because im going into senior year and it feels like my time is limited, especially since I plan on doing early application and I have 2 other required essays to write. Even though I took AP lang and can write about basically anything it feels like I always blank out when it comes to myself, I can't seem to think about anything unique, interesting, or endearing about me worth writing an essay over. stressing about college essays makes me feel like I have no sense of self and no experiences, btw said med majors look for mature people do you know what comp sci majors look for personality wise?
I am currently writing my personal statement and the prompt is: Describe your career goals and paths you will take to achieve your goals. How will your extracurricular and leadership activities help you define your career? How will your career goals impact the community? I just can’t think of a way to write a narrative/story for this prompt. Is it even possible to write a story for this prompt or should I just make my response informational (like just write my answers)?
The best way to open this IMO (I’m still applying as a 17 year old so take with grain of salt) is open with a story from an extracurricular. A moment that really impacted you. A freeze frame in time where you thought “wow, this is so great I could do this for the rest of my life”. Ideally that extracurricular activity should speak for itself. It should show leadership and impact the community.
8:15 Lol funny enough I’m watching this video right after I had to wake up when I was going to sleep because I had a really good personal statement idea
Yo can you make like 2 or 3 roasting personal statement essay videos as the application season goes on? Would def get views as everyone looking for personal statement stuff rn + would be super helpful. Also I just want you to roast mine haha Thanks bro
Still 2 more years until i finish my undergrad. I want to do my mba in Harvard. I never wanted to get into any universities like this before and was not serious about anything. But something inside me changed a few days ago, due to some personal reasons. Now I want to get into Harvard and preparing for it from now, no matter how impossible it may seem. Nothing is impossible 💪🏻
Do you think you can make a video on writing the transfer common app essay for students that want to change colleges? love ur content n keep up the good work!
I had got a story of mine and could my events with them too. Also I had crafted some segments where I provided conception of my failure and what I had done to overcome that! But, there was 2 queries constantly hitting on my mind: i)Shall I mention my future plans during the conclusion of the essay? ii) Can I mention why my last academic exam result was terrible bad! And explain my efforts through implementing short words? iii) Is it preferable to praise about the college at the end of the essay? Or, why this clg is special towards me?
I have a genuine question... why do you keep putting a harvard logo on all your videos and keep talking about you getting into ivy leagues when you go to rpi with a 66% acceptance rate? i hope this doesn't sound rude at all, just curious!
He goes to RPI BS/MD. Basically means he got accepted to RPI and the associated med school. Every BS/MD program is extremely hard to get into so it doesn’t matter that it’s RPI.
This video was super helpful and I appreciate the advice. I just have one question: is it okay to make up a story as a non storyteller? I’ve been coming up with ideas for essays and I’m beginning to write, and following advice and examples I’ve seen, I feel like I need to write an over the top story to stand out. My issues is that I myself am not much of a storyteller and am worried that won’t represent me well or will come out robotic since it’s not my normal type of writing. I’m fully prepared to write a story as that seems to be what everyone says works, but I’m worried I’ll focus too much on making a story and lose my personal voice. Any advice?
Really good video, I just have a genuine question at 5:17, you said that when applying to pre-med, college admissions officers look for maturity, if you apply for pre-law or geopolitical science, what quality would they be looking for?
hey king are you still doing those reviewing applications videos? would love to have you read my stuff but would not love to pay a hundred bucks and idgaf about being roasted online
If there's 5 Million views on a TikTok video or IG reel, that obviously means what I am doing isn't exclusive to me to begin with. There are 5 Million other people using the same template. Among them even 1 percent will be equal to 5000. That means even if you're modifying that template to be in that top 1 percent of viewers watching that advice, you're still competing with 5000 people who're like you or better than you. Hence, I don't think a reel or a short should be anyone's ideal source of advice. If you're research is surface level, you will only fall upon shorts and reels like those. If your research is somewhat good, you'll dig deep, but not deep enough to really find valuable advice. Unless your research is extensively deep, you'll never reach that top 1 percent who actually get into competitive unis. As one of the supplements I'm writing states "Remember, everyone else is taken." I dunno why I'm blabbering so much here. Guess I'll get back to my own application.
So this guy is saying to repeat what you said in the conclusion while this other guy on youtube said not to do that, now i dont know which is right or wrong.
No, you shouldnt. You have a long time ahead of you for thinking about such stuffs. The fact that you are conscious about this at this age, shows how much you really are determined to set up the best possible future for yourself, this emphasizes on your resilience and utter determination which, is VERY rare to see from people your age. I have a younger brother your age and all he does is play fifa and watch youtube, basically sulks away with not a care for this world. Nice to see people like you with this mindset from such a early time. I would suggest you not to care about these things at this point, rather focus on yourself and your studies. Trust me, youre fine and you probably are way ahead of your peers. I wish you all the best!
no you shouldnt let me tell u what you should do is find something you love doing and get good at it people worry so much about extracurriculars but thats all that really is
So what exactly is the goal of writing the ps? Do i need to make colleges know who I am as a person? Do I need to show my academic interests through it? Plz help me bro
