    Haley had the passion and intensity of Aikman. Both wanted to win. That’s probably a big reason they connected well.

      Not really a surprise. People get painted a certain way when they really are not that deep down, especially flamboyant black athletes. And before you go "why bring race into it' just look at the evidence. Do you know that Irvin's dad was a preacher who pastored a church in Georgia all the way from south FL in Ft Lauderdale. Driving up weekly! Remember how Deion Sanders was viewed as a person. Deion was never a thug. Deion doesn't use profanity, or drugs and alcohol & never has. But Carlton Fisk tried to beat him up. Tim McCarver trashed him until Deion finally came back at him. Remember how college basketball's UNLV and the Fab Five were thug teams vs Duke. The point guards for both teams Greg Anthony and Jalen Rose are respected media personalities. No one would have ever thought they would be who they are today. Not Irvin, not Greg Anthony or Jalen Rose. Rose has even built a school for less privileged kids. Look at Deion as a coach to HBCU kids. But when these guys are players and America wants us to believe certain images, they put a big lie out there! Irvin was always just a preacher's kid wilding out, once he got away from his home values....and he made his way back to how he was really raised, devout Christian. But America don't think that black kids, especially black men, get to go through growing pains.

    That said, aside from Jason Whitten I haven't seen much of anything in the Cowboy's over the last 20 years that exemplified the way Texas football used to be. They've had years with tons of talent but no leadership, and it's possible that the owner has something to do with their demise. Born in Milwaukee WI Greenbay has always been my #2 team and I honestly have liked what I see with them much more than the boys lately. It's been hard being a fan!

      Did you miss the Romo years, fan?

    • @cowboysfan782008
      @cowboysfan782008 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Of course I saw the Romo years but Romo was and is a great athlete, and a bit of a hot shot, and the boys were not exactly the disciplined team that they had been in both the Staubach and the Aikman years, and they needed a stronger and more grounded leader than what Romo could provide. I was a hard core fan from 1977 which was my first yr in Pop Warner, until about 2015, but now I just don't care as much, and it's similar to how I view the NBA. I just don't relate to the type of players these days, and anyone who watched baseball, BB and football through the 70s and 80s I'm sure would agree to some extent. Jumping around and acting like a punk ghetto hoodlum just because you made a basket or scored a TD would have gotten you an ass whoopin back in the day. Too many punks, and too much about the $$. Not all but too many athletes are that way, and not standing for the anthem IMO should get you deported to Venezuela!

      @@cowboysfan782008 how was Romo a :hot shot"? He was a great athlete and a great leader..but Jerry Jones failed to surround him with a competitive rostet. Your problem lies with Jones..not Romo.

    • @cowboysfan782008
      @cowboysfan782008 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I didn't mean hot shot so much in a bad way, but Romo was an all around athlete type, not just a football type, and before he toned down a bit he did make some "hot shot" type mistakes, but I don't blame Romo, I blame both Jones and his ego, and the egos of a lot of the players from 2000 to 2016. The Cowboys of the 1970s AND the Cowboys of the 1990s had great players, but the difference is there have been way too many T.O. types and not enough unity, and Romo was NOT able to corral the players and be the same kind of great leader that Dallas had with both Aikman and Staubach. I have been a fan since 1976 when I was 8, and right now is the first time I am seeing what I like since the Aikman days. They are playing like they want it, and they are playing together, and I hope this continues. That was a huge win over NO last Thurs!

    If Troy Ackman was half the QB he turned out to be I'd still admire him for the man he is. He knows the truth and tells it, but with too much tact. When Troy says Jerry and Jimmy were both the good, the bad and the ugly he means Jerry is the problem. But since Troy still works for football owners he won't come out and say what he really thinks about Jerry. Fans like myself know he loves Jimmy, but if Jerry .... 😮

  • @cowboysfan782008
    @cowboysfan782008 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Troy is 2 yrs older than I am. He lived in So CA and Oklahoma and in the mid 70s I lived outside of Dallas then moved to So CA in Jan of 78' and have been here since. Some ppl may think he's stiff but I understand him completely because like him I had a strict military style dad and played sports all my young life too, and he's just an extremely disciplined individual. I saw another interview where he's not bragging but he says that he could beat Tom Brady in a race right now and I guarantee you that even at 52 he isn't kidding. Growing up in Texas it was the 70s Cowboys, Earl Campbell at UT, a good Ranger baseball team and an all sport place. Even in Plano Texas where I lived the Plano Wildcats, the HS team won State. Southern California is great, but don't mess with Texas, and that movie Friday Night Lights is pretty spot on as far as how hard core Texans are about their Football!

He had a lazer arm but by 97' his offensive line was weak and he was getting clobbered, and he retired a little early because of it and I don't blame him.

    It would be nice and appropriate if Michael Irvin and Emmitt Smith called out Skip Bayless for his BS stories about Aikman. Because through the years whenever Bayless has insisted Aikman’s teammates are the sources for his story of Aikman being a homosexual Bayless all but names Smith and Irvin. Bayless’s exact words are my sources are Aikman’s most famous black teammates. That’s in essence saying Irvin and Smith called Aikman a homosexual.
