    The fact that they trying to stop you from getting an inspection should be enough to make you think somethings not right we move along.

      In my home country that sort aggressive real estate selling method is even classified as unethical and illegal. You can't sell or put up flipped real estate for sale, without having ALL the nessary permits and real estate bluebrints available, shown FYSICALLY to the customer whos gonna buy the house or property. Thats the law.

    I get so discouraged that people with no real knowledge think that they can "flip" a house, but end up creating a bigger problem from the next homeowner. It makes me sad for those who aren't as educated in home construction and codes. Especially when realtors rush important decisions like buying a home.

      The thing is that the people that flipped this house knew that they were doing it wrong. Hence the requirement of no inspection.

      Brit here, in the UK you cannot sell a house or apartment without a recent certification that states your electrical installation is up to code and safe, same with gas. Plus we dont have "inspectors" We employ an independent Surveyor with relevant qualifications to work for just you(a bit like using a lawyer) who comes into view the house you wish to buy. They are fallible BUT give a much better idea about the property and although not perfect, is much better way than a "inspector" with no way on checking him/her out. Surveyors in the UK have their own register to prove who and what they are. It keeps the unscrupulous person at bay. Buyers should remember the old adage. "Buyer Beware!"

    When Gary (the HVAC guy) says the homeowners won the lottery, he wasn't kidding. The amount of work that was done to fix the place (~$150k, about 15 years ago)... This couple got scammed HARD by that real estate agent and the flipping crew. Since the agent said they had worked together before, I'm assuming the agent knew how bad it was and that is why they leaned hard to get a sale without an inspection.

      I doubt they knew exactly how bad it was. Like a car salesman has no need to know if a mechanic has fixed a car right.They just sell it, and move on.
      This agent is just a soulless asshole, who doesn't give a shit about what happens to anyone, but themselves.

    I enjoy that Mike's is looking into that attic and has a lot of concern about the safety of things... all while there's a cameraman pointing a camera at him. Man those cameramen in the attic.

      Most likely yeah. Lets not forget that those yoyos have done multiple "House Renos" and the agencys questionably dubious "sales pitching" insisting not to have a house inspector "snooping" around.

    My mother was once a real estate agent for over 34 years. It's real estate agents and builders like the ones here that give a bad name to the ones who are out there for the buyers best. So u as a buyer. Must do your homework before buying. It will save u tens of thousands of dollars.

    Give the bill for any out of pocket expenses to the person who told you the home was up to code, and not to get an inspection, along with a complete list of repairs.

      You CAN, but you have to do it right, the flipper didn't, but Mike's crew showed how it is done the right way.

      The way they had it was cockameemee for sure, but it would have worked just fine. There's almost no load on that header. They're making a big deal of it for TV 🤷‍♂️

    "We won't let you buy if you want an inspection." Personally I would have run a mile. MAJOR RED FLAG!! But I'm so glad that this mess has been fixed for them. May they have many years of joy in their much improved home. But, even if you do get an inspection, be wary of who recommends them. The sellers and realtors have a vested interest in the house passing inspection. Find your own inspector, even if it costs more.

    You say that about buying without a home inspection can have major consequences.
    But I’ve watched a lot of your shows where they did have a home inspection but after moving in they found the inspector missed some very major things😮

    WHEN BUYING A HOUSE ESPECIALLY YOUR FIRST HOUSE SND SUPER EXCITED THATS WHEN THINGS GET MISSED
    CHECK THE AGE OF THE HOUSE
    CHECK FOR PERMANTS
    TALK TO THE NEIBORS TO SEE IF IT WAS SOLD A SHIRT TIME AGO AND WAS THERE PEOPLE FIXING IT JP AND A MONTH LATER BEING RESOLD
    SO MANY HOUSE INSPECTIONS ARE TERRIBLE

    someone NEED to go after the realtor and make them pay for what it's going to cost to fix this or who ever flipped this house that had NO CLUE what he was doing. Here in the U.S.A you would be PUT IN JAIL.

    Buying a flip is especially risky. A $150,000 loss caused by these scammers should not go unpunished. Are such flippers and their agents ever held responsible?

    I love old homes, they have character! I'm also a realist, I wouldnt want asbestos, or bad structure. I loved the plaster molding, but I like having a structural sound home better

    "Do the inspection." Why? I've watched the fixes on all the people who did. I think I'd just learn what to look out for and inspect it yourself. My grandfather built houses, my husband built houses... grandad told me learn what you need to learn to keep the world from making you a victim. I might miss something, but not that much and I'm no inspector.

    Brit here, no inspection, well my question is, would they have been any better off with an inspection? From what I've seen of Mikes videos, many many couples have been let down by an inspection.
    So I ask again, why no National Register, where buyer could check out "inspectors" qualifications and knowledge plus customer satisfaction? So many buyers are CONTINUALLY ripped off, where is the enforcement against such criminals? Also, as to the pod lights emitting heat? They should be LED lights far far less heat. Normal halogen pod lights are a fire risk (retired Tech Electrician)

    Statute of limitations on building code violations? I’d look into filing a civil lawsuit as well as reporting the contractor and real estate agent to their respective licensing boards.

    Always get at least one inspection. Not a bad idea to get a 2nd opinion inspection also. Never hire an inspector referred by any real estate agent. Good home inspectors are hated by real estate agents. They call us deal killers.

    What legal action do you take against the people (animals) who (that) did the renovations? There should be massive penalties, in addition to the costs of correction. Why should the owners or Mike be responsible for their muck-up?

    I do not know what part of Canada Mike Holmes was operating in when these Holmes Inspections episodes were shot, but one theme continues to surface; the buyer hires a "professional" home inspector for several hundred dollars, the inspector misses 1 - and often several more - obvious issues and the "clean bill of health" or "minimal repairs needed" report turns into tens of thousands of dollars [in some case even more] in necessary health and or safety issues needing to be completed. Then you have this episode; skip the inspection and end up in the same boat. $150,000 worth of work. Darned if you do, darned if you don't. Seems like a gamble either way. Maybe people in this area should just skip inspections, buy the home, and if it all goes sideways afterward, they will have a several hundred additional dollars to put towards the renovations.

    Get it in writing, "This house is perfect, you won't have any problems , or the seller can be sued to repair the issues !" That's what I would have told them to do !!!!!!

    First Red Flag, never take anyone's word. Houses are like vehicles, it might look nice in the inside but the structure and engine could be completely trashed. Second Red Flag, they never watched Holmes Videos, Morons. 3rd red flag, Spend alot for a Really good Home Inspector like Holmes than a cheap one that will half ass his work. Reason you spend so much money on a Home Inspector is that if you get a really good one, they'll really help you from buying a house that's complete shit, inside and out.

    The best money spent on a home purchase is hiring a professional engineer. They are better than a home inspector because their license protects you from lawsuits and crooked building inspectors, too!!!

      Watched another episode where the guy had paid double to get an engineer in for the inspection ( guessing $800 - $1200 ) and he was no better than the other half-a$$ home inspectors on the show.

    How do you get ahold of you Holmes and Holmes I bought this home about 8 years ago and I am 72 years old and I think I got electric problems and they said I had an infection on this house can you help me

    Good observation on the competency challenge handled differently from "The Deadly Years" on your part. Of course the true reason was, as you stated, was the writers wrote it that way for desured dramatic effect.
    However, BIG difference is that in Deadly Years a person of higher rank questioned Kirk's fitness, to find the truth of the matter. In the case of Obsession, it was Kirk's subordinates who had the concern.
    When you go against the boss there must be strict protocols and procedures - otherwise it could constitute "mutiny."

    When I see videos like this, I think.... This must be California. Only someone in California would first of all buy a house like this. Then second of all spend probably $300K to have all of this work done to it. So crazy! These contractors are doing stuff as though, money is no object. As a home builder myself, I see all of this work and laugh at the owners of this home. They are so being $crewed!

      May be worth while to mention the show is mostly shot in Canada (Think he had a seperate series for the US)
      So it's all early to late 2000's Canadian Rubles.

    People keep freaking out about asbestos. Now, it's not the best thing in the world... But... My father ended up with Asbestosis from inhaling the asbestos at the Long Beach Navy Shipyard. His case was so bad that the Federal government paid him a lot of money (thousands and thousands of dollars) because of what happened to him. Well, as of 9 days ago my father turned 90 years old. He is still up an about and living life. So, is it as bad as people are making out to be? My guess is about as bad as this climate change we are experiencing. BTW, I remember all food people telling us that milk and eggs were bad for us back in the 1990s. Now, they are telling us it is totally fine. Wine, beer, and liquor is bad for us, and then turn around and say a small amount is good for us. Believe your own council. Stop listening to people like this dunce who is just repeating what everyone else says. Just because everyone says it doesn't make it true.

      Just because your Father has good genes, or more specifically, genes that allowed him to deal with the contamination, doesn't mean everyone does. There are many people who have died young from Mesothelioma or Lung cancer brought on by asbestos, and there are even more health risks than just those two. Some if which were not linked to asbestos until the mid 2000s, too late to be added to health reports precious to that.

    Newly renovated sound's kind of like putting lipstick on a pig. You could also say stuffing a bra with tissue's to have a bigger chest. What do you think of newly renovated now?
