Seems like the simpler solution to all these garages is just don't idle your car inside. All the CO you are keeping out of the house is CO you have to breath in when you go out to the car, so it's not like it's really protecting you from anything.
@@aimeevanlandingham3844 I live in Denver (8 months of freezing temps) and would never idle my car in my garage. Probably the dumbest thing you can do regarding carbon monoxide.
Brit here, yet again the supposed "inspector" let down the buyer. How long before they institute a National website showing qualified and experienced Inspectors together with customers complaints and comments? Why are these criminals not prosecuted? Another thing, outside window sills, WHY are they in two pieces? In the UK builders can buy and use preformed window sills all of one piece and with a slope built in.
In the old days pre-WW2, you'd have the sill properly angled down, and the drip edge apron wood underneath, and the "dog ears" on some wood trim, helped to prevent seepage along window framing. Modern construction since the 1970s -1980s in USA anyhow -- rarely allows for that (unless you had a custom build) and people wondered why they had leaky walls around windows. Brick mold around some windows were an option depending on a houses' cladding. If not brick or stucco you could order windows for a wood clad / sided house and deal with it appropriately.
Front steps looked 'pretty' - that would have been a tip-off in their lack of safety, being tread heights were not consistent and they were situated poorly as a unit.
Why is no home inspector ever held accountable in this program. I would really like to see this man and/or woman who has once again neglected everything here and missed so much in the inspection. I would really like to see these home inspectors held accountable and all costs recovered from them for so many visible defects that they missed, I really get the idea that any idiot can become a home inspector without even having to face the consequences that they burden home buyers with. Without intervention from this program, these home owners would have to get into debt to repair these defects, and often the mortgage is already so high that they would not have the opportunity to repair anything at all.
because i think they put a disclaimer in their contract/reports and as mike says they can't open stuff up but they should be accountable when so much is right in plain sight
Maybe Canada should make home inspectors carry liability insurance in order to be licensed. I had contracts with my state in the US and they insisted that I carry a million dollars in liability insurance. I wasn't even doing anything that could cause immediate harm, if I screwed up.
@@maeverobertson1108 Yes, but just being on the property is a liability. You could be a smoker who throws away a smouldering cigarette butt that burns the house down. Lots of unforeseen scenarios that might end up in damage you are responsible for. Look at the RE Agent who threw some clothes in a cupboard on a lamp which ended up causing a fire.
@jays106 I think what was meant was, why not name the home inspector? Like John Doe did the inspection, yes, he isn't allowed to open anything up, but you can clearly see that this is wrong without moving anything.
The second house at 100 years old was actually in pretty good shape except for the roofs. The original home inspector should have been able to see the issues with the front porch roof and the main roof, but failed to inspect them properly, which could have cost the home buyers tens of thousands of dollars. Who is verifying , certifying and insuring the home inspectors? Where there is no accountability, there is no incentive for a quality inspection.
even if you open the door, the fumes are hotter than the air, so they go straight up into the ceiling area, not so much out the door unless you have a fan blow them out.
With modern cars you dont need to warm them up. ,, and once Electric vehicles take over then you will not have exhaust fume issues. But of course , the cold air is an issue if its getting into wall space and other ceiling spaces.

I'd like to see what type of house Mike Holmes would build, & I would definitely consider buying it !!!!!!

Can you imagine not catching these problems 15 years down the road?
Kate, just saying that comment was worth the punishment. Beautifully delivered. 😂
Canada needs much higher standards for their builders and inspectors 🤦♀️🙄
Not just CA. US has similar problems.

Detached garages all the way.

Don’t put all the blame on the inspector in my mind as soon as i would’ve seen the garage i would’ve walked away
Mike said he was surprised the residents couldn't smell the gases. Carbon Monoxide is odourless
it is but vehicle exhaust does have an odor to it and i believe that is what he was referring to
More than just carbon monoxide in exhaust gas.
