    My daughter and her husband bought a house in the country. The inspector told them there were only minor problems to fix. After they bought it, they started noticing the first floor floors were loose. I crawled under there and found almost completely rotted floor joists. Thank God I was a retired contractor. We ended up replacing all of the flooring and joists.

    one thing i know from watching this series is IF im ever in a position to be able to purchase a home, im gonna have a lot of questions when the home inspector does his thing. They're not gonna know what hit them.

    • @Billy-The-Goat
      @Billy-The-Goat 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      yes but how do you know your questions to the home inspector has actual done his his thing. A lot of bull can be told but I hope people asking has the ability to smell the bull and run when needed. If the inspector can back up all the question asked then you can take the risk but even that its still a risk

    The house flippers found their naive victims who only looked at the shiny finish and probably used an “inspector” that was in on the scam. Fraudulent home sellers like these should have to face criminal charges.

    @13:10 many really old homes have toilets in the basement as if the sewage backs up its the first spot that it overflows into instead of the furnished upstairs (my grandmas place had one and so does my friends home)

    The other roof looked in better shape, but still they should have done both. Also, there are three doors shown on the front. Suggests there's a lower and upper unit aside them. Talk about crammed in. Assuming it was living space atop of a store front. Appears the other owner owns more than half of the building, which presumably explains the 2x4 interior wall towards the front. Good little starter for the couple back in 2011, but hopefully they moved onto something better.

      Everyone would prefer their own home, but given what available in the market of where you live (no homes, worse homes in unpleasant neighborhoods, multiplex apartments, condos) you can't be too choosy, specially if you want to live in the city. Realtors and developers know this and it's how places get gentrified, they are willing to buy the lot and patch up existing homes because it's cheaper. Kinda what happened to this couple.

    Heard Mike saying that "no laundry on 2nd floor" before. I say it should not be a problem. Yes, sure, IF it leaks it goes down the ceiling, but it shouldn't be leaking, as well as a shower pan shouldn't be leaking; same issue. And yes... there will be vibrations most likely but there are many, many homes where people simply don't have a basement or even live on a 2nd floor (apartment). There are ways to overcome the vibration (and leaking is not the norm).

    Hate to say this, but these kids kind of rub me the wrong way. Her wearing heels on a motorcycle, which isn't safe at all, and then this 'house' that they bought. Depending on just where in Canada they are, this 'house' could have cost them anywhere between 800k CAD, and over 1 million CAD. For money like that, they'd have been better off building a new home. I just get the impression that these two had a lot of daddy's or mommy's money to burn. It doesn't help matters that they present themselves both as photographers. The average salary for a photographer is in the 45k (CAD) range for a photographer... so wouldn't make near enough money to be able to afford something like this. Meaning they're either DEEP in debt and likely to lose the home to foreclosure... or they had a crap ton of outside cash and no real viable idea for how to prepare for the future.

    • @anthonyholland2605

      it's probably a LONG time ago this and a new home can not easily be built in an old neighbourhood (downtown). I bought a 1880 house in the Netherlands 40 years ago and sure, there's always something to do but my expectations were (and are) in sinc with the age of the building. Which is attached left and right and downstairs.

    If a toilet ever leaks, if a sink ever leaks, if a dishwasher ever leaks….. it’s going to cause huge problems. Why the inconsistency on no washing machine upstairs where it is the most convenient? It doesn’t make sense and it’s a stupid thing.

And Mike (sorry to say) is a bit of a drama queen. OFCOURSE older buildings have asbestos/lesser fire walls/no hvac/small bathrooms/lesser insulation. Etcetera,etcetera. 1) fix the leaking, 2) don't touch the asbestos 3) accept or modify the other old-building-logics.
