  • Welcome back to our cottage garden. It's time for our March garden tour. I have been working on a few things around the garden. The crocuses are almost at their best (albeit a bit on the quieter side this year). We have had a new delivery of hellebore plants, and Aaron and I have been learning to weave willow hurdles and panels. Hope you enjoy the tour!

I live on the southeastern side of the USA, zone 8. I absolutely adore this channel. I'm so envious of your home and cottage gardens, and I REALLY love your beautiful long dresses.
I have always loved everything about British gardens, especially the rock work and willow fencing. I bought a willow panel about 6 feet wide and used it as a headboard at my mountain vacation cabin. I decorated the cabin like a gardener's cottage.
Thank you for sharing your beautiful thoughts, plans, home and gardens with us on TH-cam. You are truly a bright spot in this world!!! Be blessed, and keep sharing!

Oh it's all looking so lovely, isn't it just wonderful having the garden coming back to life. You inspired me to plant 300 bulbs and I'm so excited watching them pop up. Hellebores are next on my list, thank you. The willow borders are looking great. It just breaks my heart to think that the ducks were attacked, how traumatic, not just for the ducks but for you too. I'm a wreck if anything happens to my animals. Sending lots of love to Waylon, bless his little heart, I hope he is feeling better soon. Thank you for a lovely catch up and I can't wait to see you on Alan's show. Best wishes from not far away in Dorset! 🦆🌷xx

Your crocus lawn and spring bulbs are delightful. Thank you. I am with you regarding tomatoes ... That's my thrill each year. I sowed elephant and other garlic bulbs although they are not up yet. My potatoes are chitting (sp?) and new beds will be built this year just for potatoes. We're about 6 weeks away from gardening although we've slowly started clearing and discussing our spring plans. Congratulations on the television appearance ... well done.

The garden look lovely! We are early here in the Midwest of US too. My hellebores have been beautiful, and the.daffodils startex.early by about a month. Trees are about a month early as well.
I feel very behind with seed. I usually winter sow in containers, and didn't this year. I have done some direct sowing of bachelor button, poppies, and larkspur. Starting some veg soon. Our last frost is early May.

Gotta love a pretty cottage garden and I'm slowly turning my backyard into one too. I currently got some seedlings of a type of Salvia called West-Friesland, in addition to some Eschinacea and various herbs. I've got some seeds for annuals I'll sow later on when it's a bit warmer.

I love this channel - it has inspired me to plant more bulbs for next year. I thought planting a couple of hundred last year was hard work! You’ve planted thousands! I’m planning g on sowing seeds direct this year when it warms up (this will be a new approach for me as I’ve always started seeds indoors in modules). Fingers crossed! 🤞

I love Hellebores, haven't gotten any yet, I'm in the states, and I don't see the ones you have that I love the most. Your new ones, they are right my alley. I did get my sowing started 5 days ago, my hope is they're ready when the tulips are done, I can plant everything to hide those, and know where to dig. Is the Alan Tichmarsh show online somewhere, I'd love to watch that, I've binge watched everything here on YT.

As always, so helpful and beautiful and inspiring. Thank you so much. Although we are in a much distant realm (Santa Barbara CA), it's surprising how similar our problems have been(lots of rain!, premature weather, etc), and so some of your troubles match ours and oddly, make us feel less afflicted. We have lots of non-spreading bamboo, especially our 'Vittata' variety, which is beautiful, and I will try making the barriers as you have with your beautiful and covetous Willow! Thank you again so much. I always look so forward to you show!

I always love watching your videos and early spring is one of my favourite times of year, seeing the flowers appear with some early sunshine. I just moved into my first house last month and it has a small garden, my very first own garden! It still has a lot of tiles, but there are already some small trees and I'm very excited to see what it will transform into over the years. I've already planted a few iris bulbs (iris hollandica), apparently you can plant them in spring for a late summer bloom so I hope some of them will live! Your irises were so very pretty last year, I really couldn't resist when I saw the bulbs in the store.

Love your cottage garden! Odd question, could you please tell me what brand your garden boots are in this video. I've had a really hard time finding a garden boot that works well for me. Thank you.

The bit of kit you have for cutting the stakes looks really neat. What is it please?

1:11 When autumn arrives, I tr to choose early, midseason and late crocuses, even at that, crocus bloom is perhaps 3 weeks at most, the idea being that some will hopefully escape being battered by rains and toppling over. 4:17 Yes, we always had the misfortune of rodents devouring certain crocus types, but this year, an unwanted herd of cats manifested here and our crocuses have gone unmolested because of the herd of cats, an unpleasant blessing, I do NOT like cats, but we keep them from starving. 4:55 I havekept honeybees for 40 years now which also brings in contact with various pollinators. The bumble sleeping in the blossom occurs when warmth arrives, the bees go pollinating, sudden cold arrives, the bumbles are too cold to move on. A very vulnerable circumstance that no bumble wishes to have occur, hungry birds etc.
6:41 The hellebores really do create a sort of Beatrix Potter, fairy tale look, quite peacefully, quaint, comfortable.
14:00 A few years ago I planted a narcissus color sheme where on end of the patch was yellow on white transitioning to yellow, then transitioning to white on yellow. Another daffodil bicolr that I like is any orange petaled daffodil with orange or red trumpets, using colors that integrate well together. 14:24 Here in Ohio, apricot trees will thrive and bloom, but they bloom so early, that they will never bear an apricot, SO, I have two apricot trees in massive pots that I drag into the cold room during frost nights.
14:50 Tomatoes will grow rapidly in warm/hot weather with long days, peppers are very slow even in perfect condition. My brussells sprouts plants have just now sprouted, I planted them a month earlier than last year because last summer, they only finished out 30% of their sprouts. So, start your brussells sprouts EARLY.
A lovely environment that you have created, thank you for sharing.
