Just beat mafia 2 last night. My opinion it’s a better narrative game, better cutscenes, more emotional voice acting, and more serious. The open world is an after thought in that game but it was alive enough to have me driving around all the time. But mafia 1: de is my second favorite game I have ever played. I teared up so much
The way Mafia 2 let you see and experience Empire Bay during the winter of 1945 and also during the Spring or 1951 was superbly done. Right as you’re becoming a little bored of the linear prison section and are itching to get back out into the open world, the game not only releases you from prison, but the entire city, climate, time period, cars, and radio tunes have changed. It felt like re-discovering the city all over again… I loved it!
I feel like when you say the term "GTA Clone" people immediately think of all the Unity asset flip slop that gets thrown onto the mobile app store in bulk. The same games that flood you in ads and pointless in-app purchases to squeeze as much money out of whatever poor kid is unfortunate enough to download it. The same games that are called stuff like "Grand Theft Car Andreas Life 3D" that can barely even be called videogames.
Thinking about this, I realized something. The term GTA clone can be seen as a negative and people will see that. But because there is one term hardly used by many people. Crime simulators. Mafia and GTA are actually both owned by Take-Two. Mafia is doing quite well, with a new game coming out next year (though I question the decision to release it the same year as GTA VI). Take-Two is really monopolizing the AAA open world crime genre, huh?
There's an upcoming GTA clone game called "The Precinct", you're playing as cop and the game is open world set in Averno City with deep cop rank systems.
In my opinion that GTA clones ( at least some of them ) failed was purely on gta's community . The Moment saints row coming out everyone would immediately say that is a gta clone and no one should buy it, thus not achieving that much of a popularity. Not only that , it's difficult for even a AAA studio to make a game like rockstar makes , which even to this day it baffles me a lot that there is ONLY one company in the industry that can make a top notch game with details , graphics , maybe story but mostly world building in the open world crime genre. Then you have the indie devs which now you see a huge rise on them but they are lacking the equipment on it and even the budget to run such a huge project. I really hope soon or after a " Gta Clone " comes out and gives us some competition. That's what we need for rockstar to actually listen to us instead of being greedy over us and ruining some of their old games and even not reaching their limits which in my opinion, they can easily reach something beautiful to make even with a small team but they just either rush it or somewhere mess it up . Not to mention the community should stop this stupid mindset of gta clones , it doesn't make sense cause you wouldn't call battlefield a COD clone , it just 2 completely different games but yet in the same genre .
You don't have to emulate Scarface on PC. You can fix the bad PC port with Silent Patch and Fusion Fix (and if you want, install Remaster Project on top). The only thing it's missing at that point is blood textures on Tony, but I don't think that's worth emulating it for. 31:00 Scarface was peak, the hell you mean not that good overall? Cyberpunk may not necessarily be a gta clone but we all wanted it to be the next gta replacement. This is at least 50% of why this game was so hyped up.
Probably most people who got mad at games being called a GTA clone... weren't of age during that era. Open world games with missions weren't a thing before GTA1 which is itself played down for the 'impact' GTA3 had on the world. That structure of gameplay especially in a modern city setting was called a GTA clone because at the time they really were following in its footsteps. It's not an insult, it's just a factor of the fast changing landscape of video games at that time. It's not like people weren't making that kind of game yet because GTA hadn't proven it to be popular... That kind of game hadn't been possible or even thought of yet. The term 'GTA clone' now would seem insulting and shallow, and would only be appropriate for those super cheaply made knock off apps that try to actually look like a GTA game but have none of the effort put into them.

GTA 4 and 5 felt like GTA clones to me. Something that broke my heart was when I read a comment criticizing GTA San Andreas as being overrated for its "nonsensical story." Sure, I understand that I'm old, it's an old game, and there's a lot of nostalgia behind it, but the game was complete freedom for the era. There were so many fun and novel mechanics that are exclusive to San Andreas alone, and all for the upfront cost of $49.99. So many were cut from GTA 4 and 5, plus many still haven't made it into GTA online. And one thing is for sure, nobody played GTA for their storylines back then. In fact, most of the stories felt cleverly designed around the mechanics as a way of introducing you to the sandbox. Much of the map and late game mechanics were locked behind a large chunks of the story, so you just wanted to beat it to unlock the full experience at the end. It's was the fact the story would always introduce all the post game mechanics that had me so out of touch with GTA 5. I remember the first time I played the heist with Franklin and Michael, I fully expected heists to be a new mechanic, that you'd be able to set them up anytime you wanted afterwards, because that's what all my experiences with GTA had taught me until then. I really wish everyone could've experienced San Andreas when it was released. I just can't do it justice here for how fun, innovative, and how much of a GTA game changer this classic masterpiece was at the time.

With all the retro throwback games I really wish someone would make a retro game in the style of III/Vice City, essentially a gta game from that era, with the graphics and everything. Might be too big of an undertaking for indie devs, but I know there has to be somebody out there with enough ambition to pull it off
Games are way more complex and way more expensive now, and for sandbox games, even more so. Its the same reason why we never see Skyrim clones. Its too, expensive, too complex and too risky. A commercial failure after years and millions of dollars spent on development can mean a Concord level disaster, and for some publishers that could sink the company.
Ok, what was that sweet tune at the end? and please tag the music you use. there's a place in heaven for tubers who tag their music, they get what they want 3 seconds before they even want it manifested in front of them. there's also a room in hell for those who put banger tunes but don't tag it, they keep hearing good music but forever are haunted by anxiety of will they ever find it or hear it again. save your soul, tag your music. also, second video of you I watched, and the one that got me subbed
12:00 Never had to climb ALL towers or liberate ALL outposts in a GTA game :) But I like AC Syndicate as the driveabale carriages make it more " GTA" :) Yeah, games get compared no matter what, but new " GTA clones" are rare. Only one I own is Cyberpunk 2.0 which has similar elements but is yet so different. But Cyberpunk proved how difficult it is to make a believeable openworld, many " features" had to be pached in later... I think the real GTA games just have so much more details put into them than other sandbox games, the open world of GTAV and RDR2 are still unmatched and GTA6 will top that further. That makes it hard for " clones" to be successful so less of them get made.
I don't exactly think they're gone, it's just that the market has been overflowed by low quality (mostly android) open world games that try to rival gta on paper while in reality they're quick cash grabs. Anything new will be probably faced with disbelief due to most of said games not being games made with care so a consumer will mostly trust brands and names they know and it's not exactly a bad thing. Take a look at the Paradise incident that has been making headlines lately. If you were a developer would you try making a new game knowing that you might fall into the flames surrounding cash grabs or would you try making something that people would buy anyway like a shooter pvp game or something else? To better explain what I mean I'll speak about the Mumbai open world game that we've probably all seen a trailer about. Personally I don't know if it's real and the fact that Paradise turned out to be a scam makes me even more skeptical to the point that I'm immediately losing my own interest in the Mumbai upcoming game. This means that by the time it's out I won't probably even search for it because my hype has disappeared while at the same time I'm over hyped for the new gta online dlc even though I know exactly that what I'll get won't be anything supercool and that I'll leave the game again after a few days
If Scarface: The World is Yours wasn’t a GTA Clone, then what is? I always felt like GTA Vice City was a video game knockoff of The movie Scarface. So who cloned who, The Chicken or The Egg?
This was a nice video it was quite informative of games out there, However, I will Forever see the Word "GTA Clone" as a moronic word to use, since it basically meaning its a Copy of something which invalidates the Effort and Time Devs put into it a product like Crime Sandbox Games out there That you listed. But to answer your question could be disappointing since the reason why there aren't enough crime sandbox games like saints row and Godfather, Scarface, Etc... is because there isn't a real need for games like that anymore. The people who needed games like that already got Grand Theft Auto 6 which is coming out within few months noted to be a Big game if I was a Developer I would either wait for Grand Theft auto 6 to release so I don't make a game that would suck to that game and Lose a lot of money since MAKING An game like Grand Theft Auto or any large Scale Crime Sandbox Games would be costly and risky it better off to just make an FPS or a Racing game at that point at least I would have a higher chance of sells then to go up against a Mega Giant Game company like Rockstar and Take2... as well their community. Also, Rockstar went through a lot of Controversial problems so some devs may want to play safe [Even though it COULD boost Sells] The only person who would make anything of that sort would have to be PASSIONATE about the Crime Sandbox Games Genre that they are making, but how can they be THAT if it is just going to be called "GTA Clone"? We lost Saints Row and a few other games because of this silly slang, and it is sadly and it only used by The Video Gamers space, not anywhere else.
Because it's not particularly realistic. It's very Hollywood. Definitely cool, but not what you would actually expect to see, & GTA IV was very committed to building a believable world.
ppl calling cyberpunk a gta clone actually made me mad because all it takes to be called a gta clone is an open world a huge city a wanted system being able to steal cars literally everything else about the game that's very clearly NOT gta? who cares 🤡
You lost all credibility when you called cyberpunk not a GTA clone because of the multiple endings and first person view. GTA 5 has first person and GTA 4 has multiple endings. Cyberpunk is absolutely a GTA clone if any of these other are. If cyberpunk isn't, nothing is.
Did you entirely skip over the part where I say Cyberpunk plays more like a Fallout than GTA? The STRUCTURE of the games are very different. I don’t understand how you can’t see that tbh.
@@CaptainGlack Even then I don't entirely agree there. A lot of the games mentioned here have very different structures from GTA as well (Just Cause and Mafia in particular do a lot very differently to set them apart from GTA like you mentioned in the video). Cyberpunk definitely takes more from GTA than Fallout imho. A lot of Deus Ex DNA present as well rather.

All those comments from your last vid just goes to show that people obviously do not pay attention 😂 & I was so happy you DIDNT include Cyberpunk in your last vid because first It’s a Role Playing Game with open world elements, I’m so relieved that you compared it to Fallout & Elder Scrolls 👍 Godfather 1 was soo good, but when 2 released it just wasn’t as good for whatever reason 🤷♂️

Might be too big of an undertaking for indie devs, but I know there has to be somebody out there with enough ambition to pull it off
There are modders who are making practically new games using the classic GTAs engines, check out Sindacco Chronicles and Forelli's Redemption
This is pretty awesomesauce, if you ask me.
28:46 haha ash's holo-spray
7:19 American Fugitive
Cool game
Ok, what was that sweet tune at the end? and please tag the music you use. there's a place in heaven for tubers who tag their music, they get what they want 3 seconds before they even want it manifested in front of them. there's also a room in hell for those who put banger tunes but don't tag it, they keep hearing good music but forever are haunted by anxiety of will they ever find it or hear it again. save your soul, tag your music. also, second video of you I watched, and the one that got me subbed
That’s actually my own mix of the Super Mario 3D World theme! 😂
@@CaptainGlack see, now that's just cruel.
Lego city undercover is my favorite gta clone
What do you mean not enough character to mafia 1.
The game has massive atmosphere.
Health around radar was from Price of Persia
Most games are a -Tetris- Chess clone
12:00 Never had to climb ALL towers or liberate ALL outposts in a GTA game :)
But I like AC Syndicate as the driveabale carriages make it more " GTA" :)
Yeah, games get compared no matter what, but new " GTA clones" are rare.
The first Saints Row was so good till they went goofy with it, Scarface was awesome too, not really a clone though.
Also, Rockstar went through a lot of Controversial problems so some devs may want to play safe [Even though it COULD boost Sells]
The only person who would make anything of that sort would have to be PASSIONATE about the Crime Sandbox Games Genre that they are making, but how can they be THAT if it is just going to be called "GTA Clone"? We lost Saints Row and a few other games because of this silly slang, and it is sadly and it only used by The Video Gamers space, not anywhere else.
Ohh scarface i loved the game (movie too)
Ok but hear me out elden ring is just GTA with swords and horses.
Now I’m upset
You sold me on cyberpunk I love fallout
Great and wonderful video. I am so happy you mentioned American Fugitive, I enjoyed that game a ton and am looking forward to The Precinct.
13:04 Nikocado Avocado? He was more than just two steps ahead...
calling every action/adventure game the gta clone should be a crime
Well gta laid the foundation, so it kind of is pal. Suck it up
I just want to say that in Driv3r the cars explode in many little pieces. Even the GOAT of physics GTA IV didn't do that
Because it's not particularly realistic. It's very Hollywood. Definitely cool, but not what you would actually expect to see, & GTA IV was very committed to building a believable world.
GTA 4 isn't goat of physics.
Because it's annoying and driver is all about staying in the car
"GTAIV GOAT of physics" lol far from it.
ppl calling cyberpunk a gta clone actually made me mad because all it takes to be called a gta clone is
an open world
a huge city
a wanted system
being able to steal cars
literally everything else about the game that's very clearly NOT gta? who cares 🤡
ayo what about sleeping dogs.....literally the best gta clone ever made...in my opinion
action/adventure game ❎
GTA CLONE ✅
Listening to the video ❎
Generalising ✅
You forgot sleeping dogs. 😢
theres a mission in gta 3 called the getaway also the getaway is made by dma design the now rockstar north from what i know
scarface 2 set in vegas got cancelled by activision when they bought scarface
You lost all credibility when you called cyberpunk not a GTA clone because of the multiple endings and first person view. GTA 5 has first person and GTA 4 has multiple endings.
Cyberpunk is absolutely a GTA clone if any of these other are.
If cyberpunk isn't, nothing is.
was also going to have a 3rd person mode at one point
Did you entirely skip over the part where I say Cyberpunk plays more like a Fallout than GTA?
The STRUCTURE of the games are very different. I don’t understand how you can’t see that tbh.
@@CaptainGlack Even then I don't entirely agree there. A lot of the games mentioned here have very different structures from GTA as well (Just Cause and Mafia in particular do a lot very differently to set them apart from GTA like you mentioned in the video).
Cyberpunk definitely takes more from GTA than Fallout imho. A lot of Deus Ex DNA present as well rather.
Nice video, brother. 😇💯❤️😊
Thanks my G 🖖💕
@@CaptainGlack You're welcome and thank you, brother.
too expensive to make em
Does there excist a single "GTA clone" were we play as a criminal in modern times? I know of no one!
I’ve always called them sandbox games
en france , on apellait ça des "gta like "(et des "doom like" pour les fps)
scarface is playable in first person on pc with mods i replayed the entire game in first person 4k 60 fps
This is a brilliant fantastic awesome amazing lovely 😍❤😀😊 Video On TH-cam i love it 😀❤♥💜😍 Also i love Video Games 🎮 And also i love The GTA Video Games 🎮 !
Bot
Forget to mention true crime streets of la
retro city rampage started as a top down version of gta 3 then it changed to retro same with gta advance and 3
I though a sandbox game, is a game where you can build things and do pretty much anything.... like Ark Survival Evolved.... Gta are just open world games.
All those comments from your last vid just goes to show that people obviously do not pay attention 😂
& I was so happy you DIDNT include Cyberpunk in your last vid because first
It’s a Role Playing Game with open world elements, I’m so relieved that you compared it to Fallout & Elder Scrolls 👍
Godfather 1 was soo good, but when 2 released it just wasn’t as good for whatever reason 🤷♂️
What about sleeping dogs ?😢
GTA 6 has an estimated $2bn budget
I'm making an open world sim for mobile VR if you want to take a look
Just a trend just like fashion, sports teams, music. Everyone moves on and dick rides what’s hot
Well I welcome any and all gta clones.. Mafia was amazing. Saints row was amazing ( before it became the joke gta online is now becoming.) rdr2 was absolutely fenomenal.. So more please..
