I have been binging these maker pipe videos since I found the channel. Just a tip for when you are assembling things by yourself and you are working with little hardware pieces like the single hole/two hole straps. You can tack it in place with a dab of hot glue or super glue so you can hold the tools in one hand and the board in the other. The little dab of glue will not interfere with the assembly as you can break it (super glue) or peel it off (hot glue) if you need to readjust the piece later. You can also use it for holding nuts in place on one side of a piece you are working on. Tightening the nut will break the glue away.
@ I love it too, until it drips on my hand. lol. But that is a risk I am willing to take. Work smarter, not harder and hope the new year treats you well.
Awesome and funny video! Always wondered how to frame with emt conduit. Question... Instead of using the conduit straps, would it work to pre-drill pass through holes in the conduit. Then attach the 2x4's to the conduit with deck screws or even thin width bolts and nuts? More time required, I realize, to predrill the pass through holes in conduit, but perhaps stronger connection in the end -- esp. in windy locations. Also, thanks for keeping the errors in the video. If I had a buck for every time I've lost a fastener, cut a board short or failed to account for the additional width of the 2 x 4's running at a right angle to the piece I'm measuring for cutting, I could afford to pay the $5-10k for the "nice" Architectural Digest-style shed.
Sure. You could pre-drill the conduit instead of using the straps. First make sure you have a few dozen new and very expensive drill bits, a heavy duty drill, mouth guard for when you grind your teeth together from the vibration (and aggravation), wrist brace, a divorce attorney if your spouse is helping you, and a chiropractor on retainer. Then go for it. we'll do the conduit straps.
You could totally drill into the conduit, but I think that would be a a real pain since you have to drill into something round, so alignment would be tough. The straps were super quick and easy, do I didn't feel the need to go directly to the conduit. It's held up extremely well, so no issues with wind so far. Thanks for the question!
Sweeet! Excited to see the progress. This is coming along great! I am surprised that the one hole straps weren't holding the boards up. They usually have a really snug fit. Maybe they were for 1" RMC instead of 1" EMT? Clever idea to rest them on the connector pieces. I could see the larger ones being useful for making a sliding desktop or door etc.
Yeah! I know it’s taken forever to edit these, but better late than never 😅. I’m not sure! I got the right size, not sure if they were just bent or something, but a few actually fit really snug. Turned out great tho! Final product is coming soon!

that's a great tip! Love me some hot glue.
