what non guitarists and bassists need to know about this, is just how EXHAUSTING playing such a bass line is. It's playing every note in perfect time at 92bpm in a finger style without your hand going into a spasm. It takes great technique and a relaxed hand and a LOT of practice. superb stuff Ellen!
Agreed, my hand gets a cramp just watching it. Pretty incredible!
@@TheJbenwaa It's not as difficult to learn as it seems, it's mostly the same sequence repeated over and over, the difficulty is not in doing it once, but doing it again and again and again for almost four minutes.
I think it may stump some bass players because it's more like a guitar riff than a bass riff.
Jupp. This is a monster bass line. I have learned it, but it took a LOT of time! But dang! it is fun to play when you know it!!!
I was exhausted just watching. I played bass when I was young (not that young) and it IS exhausting. That girl has talent (and stamina).
Yeah the hand cramps are the worst haha. Bass definitely wears out your hand and arm muscles more just due to the gauge of the strings and thicker neck.
This bassline is ABSOLUTELY RELENTLESS on the fingers. No breaks. Nonstop 8th notes and moving all over the neck the entire time. To do this flawlessly as an adult is high level bass playing. To do it as an 11 year old is stunning.
I like to check back every now and then and see the latest comments.. Ihave to admit i have probably listened to this 50 times... I have been a fan since she first started and your right, its not only relentless and impressive, but just learning it was a challenge.
16th notes, even.
@@Charlie_B.and you played that when you were 11?
@@Charlie_B. nice another one.... well sir, you seemed to think that this 11 years old accomplishment was MEH. And then offered up something you said is so much more difficult. Thats my point. I can use pictures next time if that would help.
I can feel my Arthritis acting up.
I've heard many upcoming bass players playing Hysteria on TH-cam and they do it well. The difference with Ellen is that she does it with flawless timing. All the time! So tight!
She is definitely a prodigy. A great talent. Well done.
Espetacular. A mão quase não cabe no braço do baixo. Parabéns. Gratidão
She has been defined a prodigy by the legendary Earth, Wind and Fire. That Is enough.
Best part of her vids is when she gets close to the end of a song and realizes she has nailed it and breaks out into that big smile. Such a ray of light. 👍
You knew that smile was coming. Wait for it.....
Agreed !!
Absolutely agree
Always anticipating 🤓
She does have that “ nailed it “ grin. But dang, Ellen’s going be 12 , I think. So much talent and spirit in this one. 👍👍
She must be a bass player reborn! and was probably already very capable in her past life! Absolutely incredible!
I hope she has a brighter future as a bassist. She enjoys doing what she loves here. And I also hope Chris Wolstenholme (Muse bassist) watches this and realises he's also an inspiration. That guy is really underappreciated. Great technique, stamina and tone. He once jokingly said: "I hate playing Hysteria. It hurts"
I'm sure it hurts. This song is a lot.Epic
I don't see a young girl playing the bass, I simply see a good solid musician that absolutely rocks
Hello my friend
I want to introduce a talented boy who is trying to become a musician with his own efforts. This boy is a guitar player and does taekwondo.
If you follow this boy's channel, you have given great support.
We are human and we should treat each other well
The name of the TH-cam channel is...mani-xra🙏🙏🙏
what? she isn't a girl?
Are you seriously asking that? Ofcourse she is. You must be a troll.
@@SHERIPOTH I thought you were misgendering her as solid, sorry.
@@iantrolington6594 wow you're so hilarious. Bro got the whole comments section laughing 😒
From my eyes and my ears…. Flawless! I am more and more impressed with every video. As a bass player, I cannot commend you enough. The other day I was having a conversation about favorite players and when it came to bass I said Billy Sheehan, Dana Strun, Ellen Alaverdyan, Geddy Lee and that’s in no particular order. This Muse song isn’t easy to play and you just made it look like it was cake. Girl, keep it going. You are a phenom. And you are doing something very special. Mad love to dad, I think it is absolutely amazing what you do and your role in Miss Ellen’s growth. Keep the focus and keep playing, everything… pop to metal to jazz to Latino to east listening, everything… every song you learn, will teach you more and more. It could be something as simple as a Poison song banging on 3rd fret E string to something from Flea. I am very proud of and I am super excited to see where you go. Congrats kiddo, you are well in your way to greatness!
Ditto.....Ellen is absolutely amazing even from day one I agree 💯💯💯👍👍
What a beautiful message to this lil star!!
Great playing, Ellen! You are sounding amazing!
@@etiennecfourie777 Yeah, it's going to help her growth to tell her that she is # 3 in the world on bass !.
@@dwayneelizondomountaindewh1465 she's an accomplished musician and not a number!
This girl is going to be a BEAST when she grows up. What awesome technique. You go, girl!
Already a beast!!
Getting older I'm sure there will be 1000 music bands begging her playing bass with them...! Just now at this point Ellens skills are unbelievable - wow!!! Why not trying to meet Leland Sklar - the old man with his experience of 50 years playing the bass live and in the studio? He was the "Bass Man" playing often concerts with Phil Collins and many other superstars! I believe this could be a great gig!!! Chapeau, little lady - I'm sure you'll make your way! 😍
It’s not just her playing- it’s also her spirit and energy that makes her so wonderful. That smile melts icebergs.
That's the point. She's talented no questions. But the smile the passion. I wish her to keep it.
Fun! When it stops so does that special sound. Hard to keep up that energy and level of just having fun with it!
A lot of Muse bass lines are trials of endurance. This kid's stamina is epic
I’ve worked on this song and it’s a marathon!
@@wb1065 Many times a "kid comes on the scene"; head scratcher as to how. Glad I've seen a bit of Ellen's journey.
People would think Hysteria is Muse’s ‘boss level’ bassline but it isn’t. It’s actually New Born. Still, Hysteria is a close second and it hurts to play. Kudos to Ellen!
@@aqimjulayhi8798 Young & nimble.
@@aqimjulayhi8798 I developed carpal tunnel syndrome and sadly had to give up on the bass never finishing my last challenge which was limelight by Rush. But have absolute respect for anyone willing to put in the work! Back to my first love, the drums 👍.
You and your dad are an inspiration to so many people, I heard a guy say if he saw you when he was younger he’d quit his guitar. Not me watching you and your father work together push me to practice the piano more. Thank you both and don’t stop growing in your craft.
I'm sitting here watching this with tears in my eyes. You've restored a little of my faith in humanity. Seriously, mind blown! Your talent and dedication is like a breath of fresh air amidst the mind-numbing wasteland of social media dumbdumb 'influencers'. Forget the pointless trends and dance challenges, THIS is where the real magic happens! Kudos to you for reminding us what true talent looks like! You earned a subscriber today. Sometimes the TH-cam algorithm gets it right.
Well said!
i agree completely tears in my eyes as well
With 456K subs I think it might be more of a blind squirrel finding a nut if it worked hard enough. Which brings us to why You Tube is so prideful to think their product has enough value to see subs for themselves too whilst never producing a paragon with consistency. Nope, she has that effect on everybody that watches and listens to her. She's not just good.
Kudos, kudos, kudos all around!!!! Unbelievable!
@@LiveToRidee me too! So cool!
Respect 👏
Bassist for almost 20 years, you absolutely nailed this
In my humble opinion that's probably one of the trickier arrangements to play. The fact that you went for 4 minutes at that pace brings only one word to my mind. OUTSTANDING!!!
First thing, her tone is massive and crystal clear. I love it. Second, her fingerpicking is impeccably clean. Third, she's making that look effortless although I've no doubt she practices for hours daily or almost daily. She really is incredibly good.
I'll never forgive myself for not picking up bass when I was a kid because I was living in a rural area and being different was looked as something bad. this is insanely good.
I'm 71 years old and play bass,...I hope to one day be as good as she is! WOW!!
It's very sad that you've been playing for 50+ years and can't play better than a little girl.
It's not a competition, is it?@@alexeypolevoybass
@@billstahlin1774 everything is a competition if you want to be at least half decent at your craft.
I guess we see things differently,...the bass guitar doesn't distinguish the age of the player. Check your ego!@@alexeypolevoybass
@@billstahlin1774 my ego is fine, just as my technique. But as for yours, they're both in very miserable state.
i never once seeing 11 yr old girl was able to hit on bass and she did it seamlessly, hey Mom or Dad of Ellen, if you happen to seeing my comment, tell your daughter that she has done well and keep up the good work she did bro
YEAH! All you bassists and guitar players out there, just count all the notes in this, I dare you. You'll have to slow it way down and listen fifty times. Now play 'em all this well and keep the groove this tight without any rest. This song is an endurance exercise as well as being fairly hard technically. The power in those little hands is amazing... and you can tell she's been practicing hard lately too. Ellen rocks. God bless you, girl, we love you. She's the next Tal, I said it a year ago.
I'm hearing notes that I've never noticed before. Genius bassline cover. 11 years old!!!?? What a fantastic future she deserves 👏
As a bass player, and like so many others have already said, this bassline is a KILLER! My hands got tired watching you! Amazing job as always, Miss Ellen! I have loved watching you develop and grow in your musical journey! Keep it up, young lady! You are a STAR!
My God The talent and skill she has. Its incredible. This is one of the hardest base parts i've ever seen!
As a bass player that can play this song... she crushes it. The fatigue in the fingers is real on this and she makes it look easy. Very talented bass player right there.
Omg that endurance..that skill .. hysteria is not an easy song ..and she's flawless
I’m impressed.
That looked really tricky yet you just performed it brilliantly. Way to go Ellen.
a m prom indonesia god job ellen
As a drummer speaking kudos to you and would absolutely love to have a bass player as yourself young lady! Keep at it, you are already uber talented, the sky is not even the limit for you!💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻👊
The timing impresses me most. To have such precise timing at such a young age bodes very well for her musical endeavors.
Right in the middle of the note. Precision.
You are a Star. Ive spent 12 years in a band and I am blown away at your technique and finger stamina. Sweetheart, Im 65 and may not live long enough to see you fully shine...but when you do...WOW!!! YOU ARE AWESOME 😎
Incredible talent - such a joy to watch and listen to. And the reward of her cute, cute smile at the end. Bravo, Ellen.
AMAZING!!! You absolutely SMOKED that bassline!!! Don’t ever give up, you’re gonna be a HUGE star before you know it, and we all be enjoying your skills with massive smiles on our faces! 😃👍
Wow
This looks so hard to play - but you are doing it like it was nothing. WOW ! I see very bright future for her
And then you watch some of her videos where she is practicing and you see how hard it really is. I guess she just puts tons of time and effort into it. I think that is what is unusual about her relative to most 11 year olds (and however old when she started).
@@NickRoman Yeah I know - I play the piano too - I spend 3 hours every day
@@NickRoman Agree. I can't get my 8 year old to spend 3 minutes a week to practice guitar...

I wish I knew how many attempts it took her to nail it. I am so proud of this little lady.
How proud parents must feel to have such a complete, intelligent, friendly angel, who plays the bass like the gods and sings divinely ❤️
Lost for words: WOW.
Two weeks ago I saw Ale (The Warning) live.
One day I hope to see you Ellen live. Just turning 11 years old and making this bold statement.
Even the sky isn't the limit for you.
Great great job
The future is bright with young musicians like Ellen. Rock and Roll will never die.
This young woman is utterly fearless! That was so much fun to watch. Well played!!
STUNNING, just stunning. The stamina it takes to play a song like that, without a break whatsoever, is why Ellen will be a world class player. She actually already is....😁
I have no idea whether she can play this without a break, or how many times it took her to play this even _with_ breaks
You've clearly never tried to play “New Born”, that one is a real stamina exercise.
Holy cow, this insane flow of 16ths is so damn hard to pull off consistently, and she did it perfectly on time throughout the entire piece. Mad respect, there is no way in hell I could play this anywhere as well even after weeks of practising.
Vote 10 for the choice of the song
Vote 10 for the perfect execution (and not easy for very young fingers)
Rated 10 for that hair, too cool
Rated 10 for that happy smile
Rock On Girl!!! 🤘🏼❤🤘🏼
Amazing ...the refined dexterity of decades long dedication to excellence condensed into such a young , young lady who can dazzle the accomplished all while the joy of her youth comes through in her expressions and mannerism .
Many comments made by many more senior than she bassists make obvious how difficult the passages are relative to tempo ..she is truly a gifted prodigy 👏👏👏👏👏...bravissima !
All I can say is WOW! I know she has tremendous amount but the amount of time in practicing that it takes just on that song is craze!!!
Wow!! The word "limits" just becomes less and less relevant for you, little Miss. You are blessed, not only with talent but with the desire to crash every barrier in your way. 👏👏👏👏👏
Speechless!!! So Amazing!!! It has been so much fun watching you blossom...you go girl!!!
Her tone is bang on but her finger work is a thing of beauty to watch. I also love the fact that her bass is almost the same size as she is. The smile on her face at the end 🥹Truly awesome work and a joy to the ears and soul 🤘✊
I love this kid. Absolutely fabulous and flawless with this groove. One of my favorites from Muse. I wish she could inspire my son. Bravo to her dad who's done such a great job as her teacher.
She's good. This is one of the hardest songs I've heard her play so far. This really proves that she's not just a young person playing so so difficulty songs, She's getting to the point where she's good really good
Holy moly, that was absolutely TERRIFIC! I don't know how many other people requested that song, but as for me, I thank you. I'm very picky about my music -- I can't even watch some bands live -- and that was, as far as I can tell, absolutely perfect!
That must have taken a lot of work, but you NAILED that, my friend. I hope you enjoy doing it as much as we enjoy hearing it. Bravo!
I think I'll be re-watching this over and over. That's one of my favorite songs, and you very much did it justice.
Yeah! It's a real pleasure to see and to hear you playing! Thanks for this moment of good energy 🤘🤩
Holy smokes, this was epic to watch as a string-slinger of all kinds! Just getting a great look at those fingers would be worth the watch but the PRECISION of the playing keeps drawing me back in. This girl's future is bright in the low end!
When I need a little mood lift I seek out one of Ellen's videos... they never fail to lift my spirits. It take real effort to nail these pieces and the reward for me is seeing the little smile after a particular passage and the smile at the end. Thank you!
Ellen, your playing is on another level! The songs you choose to cover are never basic. They're all advanced level bass lines and you NAIL THEM every time! Just awesome.... You are the poster child for up and coming musicians.
I'm 53 and just started playing bass. What an inspiration to see these videos. Keep up the great work. If I can get even a 1/4 as good I will be happy!
Hovak, you've created a Monster! 😆 I love watching and hearing her play.
LOL...Indeed!
Another Ale (The Warning) in the making. About the same age as Ale when they did their version. Rock on.
Hands down the best cover I've seen on this channel. Ellen's officially a rocker!
So good, this warms the heart. You make my day! I so love this bass line. I just love her smile at the end.
Let's just appreciate how much work these young musicians put into their instruments, whatever instrument they are playing, it's not just their talent that brings them to this absolute God level of playing, but also a lot of hours of practice, failures and hard work! Never forget this, and... Keep up the good work!!! 🙂
This young lady has a lot of talent. I'm a bass player and I watch other young musicians in covers, but this girl really has a big difference in her way of playing the bass guitar. Incredible.
Yup, it’s this God given timing. It’s so perfectly balanced, it almost sounds ordinary, but it is not, her timing is incredible, it’s so musical.
Every note is played with surgical precision. Extremely impressive 👏
I've watched this wonderful girl play this at least 50 times. Blown away every time!!!
Ellen, that was as professional as it gets. You did a fantastic job of playing the bass on that song.
This young lady is growing, thriving, evolving, A great future ahead of her!!
Thank the Lord there are supremely musically talented kids still out there!!
I listen to this now and again.. Its a joy and education of the importance of Bass guitar. Ellen is great and captures the mood of it.. Brilliant

I am 87 years old and I mostly listen classic JAZZ an Classical music etc. for many years now. I listened ELLEN Plays Bass and really she is fantastic and also I noticed that she is enjoying while she plays from her heart and soul and she is 10 years old. I'm thinking this is the hardest song I've heard for the bass, and Ellen does it flawlessly !!!
You did great, I just came here from a Charles Berhound video and the first thing I noticed was how clean all of your notes are and how well you match the rythm. You actually outperformed a senior masterclass musician pretty significantly on this song as far as I'm concerned.

Watching this with my mouth wide open and my jaw on the floor 😮 Stunning!!
It is fun to watch her because her body movements show that she totally understands the rhythm and feel of the song, and that is in sync with her hands and brain.

Goodness, I don’t even know what to say. This is just a fantastic performance, Ellen! You absolutely nail it and it’s a pretty aggressive bass part. As others have noted, the best part is your smile and obvious love for the music. Keep it up.
I am not sure a lot of professional bassists could do this as flawlessly as this girl. A lot of bass players cannot even play this, me included. This is absolutely magical. Brilliant stuff. Well done girl 👍😁👏
One of my achievements in life is that I can play this on bass. It's notorious amongst bassists how difficult it is and I struggled to do it at first as it's just absolutely non stop and in fairness I still struggle now. I'm 28 years old and have been playing for 18 years.
