Note: prices have increased by $400-600 since we finished this edit - best idea is to price up the spec you like on the manufacturer’s website to see what you’d pay, and what stock/waits are like.

Really good review enjoy watching your content however as independent mechanic I get really frustrated when everyone complains about service costs. $ 600 per year is quite reasonable. I run my own shop & it costs me an enormous amount of money to be able to be licensed to use the software for a lot of the major brands. yet if I charge a higher price everyone starts complaining so I charge less & have work longer hours to make up the short fall.

Fair enough too. Tiguen R has stiff ride and doesn't offer that much difference in real world driving. You get 90% of the R in this. That colour is really nice.
Problem is the Kodiaq VRS is bigger inside, has another 20kw and much better interior and seats than the R line......

    • @veloce981

One man's still ride is another man's stable ride. Its never the Rolls Royce floaty ride, but its not harsh either. Besides, the active dampers allow you to dial in the ride to your prefer, as long as its not extreme -- its a performance SUV. You can also option smaller wheels if that's still not cushy enough for you.

Nice review Tom. When are you actually going to compare the VW product with Skoda? I’d love to see what comparing the Allspace with the Kodiaq turns up. While the RS Kodiaq is no match for the Tiguan R, I’d still like top see a fight out between them. Adding Cupra may also be interesting. How about a VAG mega test show down. Various Kodiaq models v similarly or closely specced VW v some Cupras. No one seems to want to do this but they would certainly be cross shopped by now. Also, I believe there is plenty of Skoda stock depending on colour. Lloyd

Why buy a stripped down version of a car? Either get the car you won't, or buy something else with the feature you looked for in the first place.
BTW, the haptic control will not be disappearing completely. You will still have to use the infotainment to do some pretty simple tasks such as adjust the direction of the HVAC air flow. Its a totally useless feature even if it were in a luxury car.
I would have preferred an option of an audiophile sound system or even better, a power adjusting steering wheel with memory, even as an option. A much more useful and pragmatic feature not typically found at this level as a step up in comfort features. Reminds me of Teslas need to use the infotainment screen just to open the glove box, which I would find silly and annoying.
