All these superwide monitors are something you buy and then "grow into" as you upgrade. I've had a G9 for 2 years and love it. As I upgrade my hardware, I'll get more use from the features. Older games run great. Just wait until you're on a Nvidia 5000 series card.
My system was already top of the line before I got my first ultrawide. Hardly something that I'm going to grow into. If your system cannot handle 4k gaming, you should not be buying these monitors as your money will be much better spent on other upgrades.

Regarding PBP refresh rates and the vertical line you can get rid of the line with nVidia's "surround" feature. It tricks the OS into thinking it is a single monitor of DUHD and not two UHD (4K) monitors in PBP mode, which improves the experience massively as the wallpaper, maximising etc works as if you had a single input.
Just got the 49" OLED version and it's amazing after you you sit in front of it and get used to resolution for a day. My only issue so far is the DP Port is unusable and even the HDMI had weird glitches at times. Even using the cable that came with it. I ordered some VESA Approved cables to see if it resolves it. If not it may be an excuse to send it back and grab this one while it's on sale. 😅
I returned my 49 because of the DP. There’s a $999 non-smart version now which should eliminate port switching issues. Also been thinking of the 57 but the matte finish as seen here is a dealbreaker

@petematheson at 12:20 you mentioned a reddit post for disassembling the included stand, it seems like that's only applicable to prior models, as the 57" stand's pivot joint seemingly no longer lines up with the mount on the ergotron arm bolt hole.
I'm loving this monitor... I've had it about 2 weeks or so.. Didn't think I would like it this much. The 4090 is the way to go if you can afford it... The whole 240hz debacle is overblown because there isn't a consumer GPU from team red/green that can push this monitor anywhere close to 240hz at native resolutions or with upscaling options. 120hz is perfect for now.. when that 5090 comes out I will definitely be buying that in order to really push this monitor. Oh and I have no problem running PBP modes at 120 on each side in full 4k resolutions. Even when I had two hdmi 2.1 devices connected there wasn't any issues pushing the monitor at 120hz 4k. No HDR of course or VRR. But still that is the best way to console game on this monitor. Great vid as always Pete!!!
Thanks for letting me know about PBP 120hz! I'll try it a few more times, every combination I tried always gave me 60/120! The 7900XTX does get there, but I think in some games you'd get better FPS with the 4090 at 120hz. I'm hoping to get the 5090 on release to try that out as well. That's ridiculous to say it's the way to go when it doesn't get 240hz. Even if you're not getting the full 240fps you can get around 150-180 in plenty of games. It's not worth spending more for a GPU that nerfs your monitor. I'd rather get the 240hz and have the full available VRR range. Not to mention fsr/dlss exists.
The daft 1m DP cable is a pain, but other than that, I’m loving this monitor. I’ve upgraded from an old, beloved 32” Benq 1440 screen, and I love having the extra space. I’m primarily using it for non-gaming uses at the moment, but it will also be a gaming screen. I was considering a second 32” screen, an OLED 4k one probably but I’ve always found 2 screens is a pain unless one is definitely subsidiary and off to one side, because there is always some sort of bezel right in the middle at the ideal spot for your eyes.
Please anyone tell me, if we connect two PCs to this monitor, can single mouse and keyboard be used to handle both pcs without any additional button press, in short can curser move from MAC OS at left side to Windows OS at right side?
You mentioned that you have Sonos. Which Sonos speaker do you have? Please connect your Sonos speaker to your PC and Mac using HDMI. Use a DisplayPort for the monitor and HDMI for the Sonos speaker. Would it work?
I just wish we could get a monitor with this resolution and refresh rate along with productivity in mind. Things like built in Ethernet, power delivery over USB-C, and proper one button kvm to switch all peripherals and video input would be worth the 2k price tag.
@@dayjeremy Easy, you might need the fastest and most stable internet connection possible, which is always gonna be Ethernet. For example for very large file transfers. I had to wait 45min yesterday doing filetransfers to my workplace server (from home). At around 300mb/s (over wireless). My ethernet would have been around three times faster.
If you would have paired your 7900xtx with a Ryzen 7800x3d or higher x3d CPU, you would have been able to use the smart access memory feature which without over explanation, would have boosted your FPS. Not up to 240 FPS fast but a noticeable amount.
Mine will be at my local Best Buy this weekend. For some reason, i couldn't get this monitor delivered to my house. I live in a city, near other big cities so that seemed a bit strange, but luckily Best Buy doesn't have that problem. Just a heads up to my fellow Americans ... the delivery date for the monitor arm he is using is set to arrive between Nov. 28th - Jan 26th. So be prepared to wait. All in all im excited to get it.

Great video Pete, I'm hoping you can answer a question for me about the KVM capabilities. When working between two separate PCs in PBP/PIP mode, does the single mouse and keyboard switch seamlessly and automatically, like can you simply drag your mouse across the PBP border and start working on the other PC? Or do you have to hit a button to switch over the Keyboard and mouse input?
Hey! Thanks for watching / commenting. You have to manually do this with the controls under the screen - Unless you install some form of screen sharing software on both machines. Logitech MX Keys & Mouse also have this built in so they can do this with their software between Mac & PC etc - works pretty well!
Please anyone tell me, if we connect two PCs to this monitor, can single mouse and keyboard be used to handle both pcs without any additional button press, in short can curser move from MAC OS at left side to Windows OS at right side?
Thanks a lot for all the work you do regarding this monitor. I am planning to buy it in the comming days but Im still worried about the arm. Could you please let me know what is the depth and the length of your Desk ? Just for me to get an idea
I never understood all the people claiming you can't draw a straight line on a curved monitor, I assume they are just repeating something they read somewhere.
@@PeteMatheson It reminds me of years ago people parroting that we didn't need monitors with high refresh rate because "the human eye can't see more than 30FPS anyway".

Thank you for the detailed review I currently have the Samsung 49 CHG90 (2021) and I'm considering to upgrading to this 1. Did you notice any health difference to your eyes pain because this OLED might be with less blue lights? Long hours give me eye pain with CHG90 2. Serious productivity difference from 49 inch?
That's deeper than my desk - so I would say yes BUT you may want the desk mount instead of using the stand, since the legs will eat into your desk space a fair bit!
@@PeteMatheson Thanks Pete! I've already got the ergotron hx mount, and it's a game changer. I wouldn't use this monitor without the mount to be honest. That's all I needed to pull the trigger on this one. Thanks for your help!
This monitor is very welcomed by our customers of our chair cockpit … many of them asking if our Manticore chair can support the G9 monitor . The Answer is Yes.
I stopped getting the the line down the middle when using 2 x USB C out to HDMI in port 2 and 3 from a MS surface pro 8. I got it if I used usb c display port on one. Or if I used port 1 I think!!
This mini-LED version is about 90% of the colors of an OLED. The question becomes, do you trade 10% increased color depth for the risk of burn in on a screen of that size?

I left it in the previous video without knowing about this one. so I'm putting it here as well: Can this monitor support 3 input sources? I want to connect 3 computers and am considering using a USB switch. What's the easiest way to switch between the inputs? Would changing the input source and switching the USB allow simultaneous access to all 3 computers?
Hey Gaston! Thanks for the comment - interesting question. You can plug in 3 devices, but not show them all at once. Switch using the controls underneath which is easy enough, I guess you'd need to get a USB Hub to switch the devices? Alternatively, I use a Logitech MX Keyboard & Mouse which all connect to 3 devices so I can just switch them at a tap of a button - so no need for a USB Hub if it's just the Keyb & Mouse you're looking at switching.
Hi Pete! Thanks so much for this review. Just curious, what kind of desk are you using? I'm currently considering this monitor and I have a 72" Jarvis standing desk that's starting to get a little crowded with dual monitors and some audio gear - I'm starting to think I need something around 100" wide now! Cheers.
I have a MacBook Pro M2 MAX. The resolution I'm able to get with a USB C to DisplayPort is 5120 x 1440. The text is still blurry and not as Crisp if I plug in my Windows laptop to the monitor. this is Very simply a SOFTWARE ISSUE. it's clear to me after trying a billion cables and third party apps even to try to adjust the display settings that Mac OS just simply does not SCALE things well. Another thing - that "HiDPI" thing that you see next to resolutions on a Mac, I don't see that for the 5120 x 1440 resolution, I think that's simply because Apple has NOT patched the OS to deal with this resolution, and that's why we don't get the advanced scaling options.
Could you make a video to demonstrate the features of PIP? What's the maximum number of screens we can input at once? Does it support 3 screens or 2 screens
Sir!! Can you pls help.. I have the Samsung g9 and the Mac Studio .. I downloaded GeForce but the game is only in the center.. I’m trying to run it full screen what am I doing wrong?
I gotta ask.... perhaps late in the day but here goes..... And a Fantastic Review by the way, I really enjoyed it. What made me a little nervous, is that I didn't have any protection to remove from the front of the screen, but did have some protection to remove of the back of the screen - which is weird. I wonder if any fellow owners had the same packaging issues.... I'm nervous that my monitor isn't new.... (I'm now asking this question in pretty much all reviews / unboxing of the Samsung Odyssey Neo G9 57" - and might decide to send mine back!)
Can someone just make it clear for me because I'm not sure and I was about to buy this monitor. So right now I have a 16" MacBook pro 2019, will it be able to handle this monitor? I mean can I use it with no restrictions like PIP? What cables do I need for that? Another question is - I'm thinking about upgrading to M3 Max, is this one also able to handle that monitor? I don't need 240hz but will it work with full res and at least 60hz on both of these macs?
@darkgodmaster @justintrentini8956 - Yes, I played a little yesterday (had an issue with my mobo, had to rebuild with a replacement for now). I have not played too much but, I had to make sure it would boot before my return date for the monitor. I get around 46-70 fps in cities with a lot going on, 60-100ish in space with not a lot going on. I have not tried bunkers yet. Game settings at 7680x2160 with quality on very high, rest set to high except for scattered object distance, water, and terrain tessellation distance on medium. I did try HDR, it worked and looked amazing! I am not running HDR now because for windows to allow you to turn on HDR all your monitors have to support it. I run a 4k 27in Dell Ultrasharp (60Hz) next to this one that does not support HDR, I had to disconnect it in order to enable it. To me, I would rather have HDR off so I can use the other monitor for hardware monitoring and Discord. 13900k / 4090 / 64Gb DDR5 / Samsung 990 Pro / ASUS Tuff gaming Z790-Plus WIFI mobo (EVGA Z690 Dark Kingpin is in the RMA process at the moment) / custom water cooling for both the CPU and GPU (2 420mm radiators with 6 Noctua 140mm PMW industrial fans).
@pete I stopped getting the the line down the middle when using 2 x USB C out to HDMI in port 2 and 3. I got it if I used usb c display port on one. Or if I used port 1!!
Can you use it at 100% scale in windows or is it too small? I ordered one and waiting to arrive ...and currently use my G9 49" at 100%, but curious if things would be too small
One thing you seem to be overlooking that is actually quite important would be the CABLE! This is what I am currently dealing with. I cant even locate a proper DP 2.1 cable for my application as I require a 90 degree cable end at my GPU output. I know that they make adapters but those are not great for performance. So if anyone knows where I can get a right angled DP 2.1 cable 2 meters long that will do 8k @ 240Hz please let me know!
It seems to be a very dividing personal opinion. I don't mind it, I'd rather not have all the reflections from bright light around me. But others prefer the glossy finish
I work with two Mac’s for two different jobs and a pc for games. I’m looking into getting a dock that works with the full 8k resolution and getting more than 30hz. My thoughts are to plug the display port to my PC and use the doc to swap between my two Mac’s. Haven’t found a dock that works with 8k 120hz or greater. But also not sure if this is the best setup for this use case either
Your 7900 XTX can achieve a full resolution at 240hz with 10bit HDR because of the connection, but the GPU's ability limits you from hitting those frames. The irony is that the 4090 could generate the higher frame rate, but the display port 1.4a is self-limiting. Cheers for the effort. I suspect the next iteration of 4090, possibly the 4090 Ti, will have the display port 2.1, but we'll see what happens. Cheers, thank you for the effort.
@@Limboinpinbo , In retrospect. The display support wasn't there, and if I'm being fair, so many people are on the LG OLED TV train they probably figured that for gaming, they had till Q2 of 2024. These 4090s are way more powerful when tuned properly; I saw over 150 FPS with quality set to max on 4K on nearly every game I play. It's such a beast at complex AI-driven GPU-accelerated "complex" calculations.
@mrv3509 it's about GPU capability. 4K , true 4K, not 3840, but native 4K uses almost the entire 48GBs on HDMI 2.1 at 120hz his monitor is the equivalent of 2x 4K monitors side by side. Theoretically, I would estimate well over double that 48 would be needed for a full 240
All 3d games are stretched a bit on the edges when I had my original G9. Switched back to 21:9 larger screen and cranked up the fov on games. Never any problems with 21:9
Hey @pete - I called Ergotron this week to see if there's an update on the new heavy-duty head and they said possibly March, and it could be a head, or a completely new arm.
Seems like a pain for games that don't let you scale the resolution very easily. Is there not a monitor that allows you to do this without the use of fancyzones or another 3rd party program? I simply want this screen size and be able to play a game "fullscreen" in the middle with apps open on either side of it. Cant seem to find that.
I had my first one die on me when changing resoultion of all things. Completely dead, black screen. Returned it and got a new one and I'm still loving it!
How is the G9 Neo for video/photography uses? what is the colour accuracy etc? I've been looking for a screen that will cater for my needs (40% productivity, 30% gaming and 30% editing) I have the 4090GTX
How did you get it out of picture mode eco? I'm using a 2080 Super... Wondering if that might be the issue (Using 2 connections to make the full 8 k res vs one cable)
I have one of the really early HD Pivot's and it doesn't support the monitor. I don't know if it is just because it is an early revision or if some will support and others will not.
I run my 57" as two monitors side by side both at 120hz with an Nvidia 4070ti with no visible line in between, even when I centre a window across the middle of the two screens. I use HDMI ports 2 & 3 for this.
how it performs with MacBook Pro M1 Pro? I am wondering what the maximum resolution and scaling are so far. The monitor would be used for productivity not gaming at all
Have you tried using an 8k USB-C to Display Port cable on your M1 Max? That's what I currently use with my M1 Max laptop on my 49" Samsung and I get 5120 × 1440 native resolution.
Hey! Thanks for the video! How would this go with Architecture programs like ArchiCAD or Revit? I’d also be using it for rendering house designs on lumion. I have a Dell XPS17 with NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4080 with 12 GB. Should I also use my dell thunderbolt with this monitor? Thanks for your time in advance!
Hmm. I think 2x 34" ultrawide is wiser for now still. Pushing 3440x1440@120 is a sweet spot for gaming without overheating the room and within reasonable budget. Plus bare for sim racing, 32:9 is actually mostly a con, hud excentered, too much mouse travel etc. "Sweet spot" is a real thing an 21:9 is where it's at imho.
Just got my neo g9. I ran into a number of issues with the PC not detecting the monitor. The only thing I have found works is plugging both DP and HDMI and then removing one once the monitor turns on. I have no idea why this works.
Can you run a XTX for this display for gaming AND a 4080/90 for at the same time. The Nvidia might run my current monitors as secondary monitors but also be used for Blender and other workloads? Can applications like LR,PS,Davinci utilise cross brand GPUs?
Does this support 3 screen pbp ? Currently have the 49 inch g8 and it splits the screen into two distinct monitors. My m2 pro sees it as two distinct screens. I use one HDMI and one display port. Does this support 3 or still limited to two ?

Even a 4090 isn't enough for 7680x2160, nor will future gpus. It's a dead end unless you like getting horrible fps in basically anything new.
I disagree, if you like image crispness but don’t like the high quality graphics you can turn down the settings to get high fps 4k with a 4090 easily
This monitor isn't 4k though, it's dual 4k, 7680x2160, double the pixels of 4k@@MnDogman
That's exactly what I did with a Sonos Soundbar - It does nothing other than show the visualiser via HDMI. No audio goes through the soundbar.
@@PeteMatheson And the speaker is not recognized as a monitor?
I just wish we could get a monitor with this resolution and refresh rate along with productivity in mind. Things like built in Ethernet, power delivery over USB-C, and proper one button kvm to switch all peripherals and video input would be worth the 2k price tag.
Why would you need ethernet on a productivity monitor? The only ones the benefit from it are the monitors with a smart TV built-in.
Please anyone tell me, if we connect two PCs to this monitor, can single mouse and keyboard be used to handle both pcs without any additional button press, in short can curser move from MAC OS at left side to Windows OS at right side?
You might not be a complete know it all about PC but your content is SPOT ON!
Haha! Cheers man :)
@@itguy5192 I think Pete answered this above… you hav to click or button on n the screen to move between inputs, or get a digital kvm
Fantastic video and follow up :)
Thank you!
I know 🤦🏼♂️ Guess it's difficult to understand until you've sat in front of a curved screen... I guess?
@@PeteMatheson It reminds me of years ago people parroting that we didn't need monitors with high refresh rate because "the human eye can't see more than 30FPS anyway".
really needed content, not much about this types of monitors on the internet
Nice video! I picked up the oled 49 inch for 800 dollars as it was a pricing mistake but they respected the mistake and let me have it for only 800 dollars instead of 2300 dollars
WHOAH!
Nice where from?
Exactly! Let me get in on this too!

Great video! Answered many questions I had
Thank you for the detailed review I currently have the Samsung 49 CHG90 (2021) and I'm considering to upgrading to this
1. Did you notice any health difference to your eyes pain because this OLED might be with less blue lights?
Long hours give me eye pain with CHG90
2. Serious productivity difference from 49 inch?
Hey Pete, thanks for the follow up! I have a g9 Neo, and my desk depth is 29”. Do you think that’s big enough for the 57”?
That's deeper than my desk - so I would say yes BUT you may want the desk mount instead of using the stand, since the legs will eat into your desk space a fair bit!
@@PeteMatheson Thanks Pete! I've already got the ergotron hx mount, and it's a game changer. I wouldn't use this monitor without the mount to be honest. That's all I needed to pull the trigger on this one. Thanks for your help!
This monitor is very welcomed by our customers of our chair cockpit … many of them asking if our Manticore chair can support the G9 monitor . The Answer is Yes.
Can you do a picture settings video please?
Ask away with any other questions, I'll do my best to reply to everyone!
I stopped getting the the line down the middle when using 2 x USB C out to HDMI in port 2 and 3 from a MS surface pro 8. I got it if I used usb c display port on one. Or if I used port 1 I think!!
So for the G9s you need the Ergotron HX has to be HX as it the only one that supports the weight of the G9. Currently at £245 on Amazon UK
Yep it has to have the HX/HD Pivot
I’ve been thinking about waiting for the 57”OLED g9. If that variant came out would you switch next year?
Heck yeah.... assuming I can sell this one and get most of the cost back. I hope! hah
@@PeteMathesonI don’t know why I didn’t think of that. I’ll likely do the same. Thanks 🙏
This mini-LED version is about 90% of the colors of an OLED. The question becomes, do you trade 10% increased color depth for the risk of burn in on a screen of that size?
I left it in the previous video without knowing about this one. so I'm putting it here as well:
Can this monitor support 3 input sources?
Very comprehensive review of modern day ultra wide, thank you for this
Hi Pete! Thanks so much for this review. Just curious, what kind of desk are you using? I'm currently considering this monitor and I have a 72" Jarvis standing desk that's starting to get a little crowded with dual monitors and some audio gear - I'm starting to think I need something around 100" wide now! Cheers.
I also am curious about how large his desk is. 57” screen plus those bookshelf speakers and the rig sitting up top takes up a lot of width I’d bet.
What do you get with HDMI?
I’ve had issues with usb c to displayport cables even with my Mac Studio. Direct HDMI seems to give you the best results
Where did you buy it from? Have you emailed their customer service first?
Does the ergotron hx meant for the 49’’ G9 work flawless on the 57’’ G9?
That's what I'm curious about. I have that setup for the Neo G9 49".
Hey Pete, could you share more info on the components of your new desktop pc build? Thanks
Of course! It’s all here 👍🏼

How is the experience in Star Citizen and how many FPS do you get?
@@darkgodmaster lol need this answer too
@darkgodmaster @justintrentini8956 - Yes, I played a little yesterday (had an issue with my mobo, had to rebuild with a replacement for now).

Great video, thanks! Have you tried using your BenQ ScreenBar Halo with this 57“ G9 too? Does it work just like it did with the 49“?
Lot of negative reviews on Amazon, Samsung and other area on 57” dying down after few weeks little unsure if it my time to upgrade and get this…
Still using mine daily and no issues so far 👍🏻
Can you use it at 100% scale in windows or is it too small?
I ordered one and waiting to arrive ...and currently use my G9 49" at 100%, but curious if things would be too small
In theory it’s the same as 2 27” 1440p screens side by side, so if you can see one of those ok then it’s fine 🤙
Any recommendation on what to replace a triple 24inch setup with? I still need a primary center screen/focus
Hi, what do you think about the mat finish ? i use a XDR display and i'm afraid to be disappointed by the mat finish, thanks , regards
It seems to be a very dividing personal opinion. I don't mind it, I'd rather not have all the reflections from bright light around me. But others prefer the glossy finish
Hey Pete so you got rid of the LG 45? Which one would you recommend?
lol - I just re-bought the LG 45.... video coming soon! haha It will come down to what you intend to use it for though
Can't imagine Nvidia not pushing out the 2.1 as they are looking clownish not having it on the 4090 now when the display got released.
Can’t you just use hdmi 2.1. I get 240 fps at 4k on my Odyssey G8 so it should do it for this monitor also.
Whats the experience playing Starfield in 32:9 resolution, any visual bug, latency or black screen in corners?
All 3d games are stretched a bit on the edges when I had my original G9. Switched back to 21:9 larger screen and cranked up the fov on games. Never any problems with 21:9
Hey @pete - I called Ergotron this week to see if there's an update on the new heavy-duty head and they said possibly March, and it could be a head, or a completely new arm.
Fancy Zones + borderless gaming can get you to where you want to be for a screen in the middle
Amazing review, very detailed! thanks!
I had my first one die on me when changing resoultion of all things. Completely dead, black screen. Returned it and got a new one and I'm still loving it!
PiP would be awesome on this if it supported 3 screens and let the user choose some layout presets.
Anyway thanks for the video 😊
Agreed! Not many will do 3 way PIP though :)

how it performs with MacBook Pro M1 Pro? I am wondering what the maximum resolution and scaling are so far. The monitor would be used for productivity not gaming at all

Hey pete 👋 in the 5120x1440 you get 240 hz on the m2 mac?
Is there a OLED version yet, or planned?
Can applications like LR,PS,Davinci utilise cross brand GPUs?
what DP 2.1 cable do you use for the 7680x2160 240hz
The best arm for this monitor is the M VESA Deskmount HD Single 32"-50 they also have a version for dual monitors
Oled or the neo(vs) screen for gaming and vid/photo editing and a litle bit productivity like 2 hours a week any advise ?
Hey man, what are those wooden panel wall art you have there?
did you use the monitor at native resolution? 7k x 2k? isn't too small?
No issues in windows you can set scaling to 125 or 150%
Mac also fine for me!
Does this support 3 screen pbp ? Currently have the 49 inch g8 and it splits the screen into two distinct monitors. My m2 pro sees it as two distinct screens. I use one HDMI and one display port. Does this support 3 or still limited to two ?
2 screens only, though you can change how much of the screen each part takes up. Unfortunately no 3 way PBP.
